@K03sport2 жыл бұрын
@@RossBradleyAudio...that's great...curious to what tires were on each...the development of the DSG box wasn't just for outright speed (although it is faster). Drivers have been moving away from three pedals and manufacturers saw sales of automatics dominate the market. VAG needed a way to sell high performance cars to ppl who can't/don't drive manuals and the DSG/PDK boxes were born. Look at racecars; they seldom have a manual these days and opt for a sequential/direct shift box for that extra tenth/hundredth. A change in owner preference is the main reason for the rise of autos. Subaru has a good car in the WRX; howevwr, Subaru has had no real competition to keep developing the car (on a world stage). The car lacks overall refinement and relies too much on "Symmetrical AWD" as the saving grace. Interior refinement needs work and could stand to be quieter. FWD cars have made leaps and bounds in recent years and now, with electronics, give AWD cars a run for their money. I would love to see the same test on wet pavement. AWD are nice, but they don't provide the advantages they used to do in the past.

I don't know if I'd call the wrx washed up as much as a car with a different purpose. No question the GTI and E-N are better street cars, but the WRX is the only one of the 3 to still be a well performing perfomance car during canadian winters. I know for myself I'm torn between the Veloster N and the WRX because despite being a huge fan of hatchbacks, the fwd of the N just will not come anywhere close the AWD performance of the WRX when that snow starts to fall.
@AK-ZL12 жыл бұрын
If you are in a fairly sunny spot all year round, no question though that the wrx falls behind basically every other car in it's bracket, but I feel like that's kind of the trade off for AWD.

I owned old WRX, a 2020 WRX, Golf GTI, Golf R, Integra Type-S, etc and honestly most people bragging for a car will not even push it to really see that limit beside a street 0-60. Like you said, the WRX is AWD and is a huge plus if your the type of guy to do some off-road or live in a snowy place. Each car has it's advantages and while some are definitively better, people saying things like "the N destroy the washed WRX" or "The WRX smokes whatever" make me laugh.
@AK-ZL12 жыл бұрын
@@lesgrosgainz agreed man. It's a car with a different purpose. On gas usage alone, I wouldnt recommend it to anyone who lives in somewhere sunny all year long, but for someone who lives in the northern prairies, I'd 10/10 recommend the WRX as it's basically the only viable performance car in that scenario. Narrow gymkhana and low-speed slalom. There is advantage in the car with the light body weight. AWD is more disadvantageous. GTI 1430kg, Elantra N 1445kg, WRX 1600kg. For WRX, penalty game. If the test is made a canyon load or Nurburgring, it'll be a contrary result.

The EN is good for the community. Koreans have been coming up lately with this and the stinger and such. It’s nice to see healthy competition. I’m bias toward the GTI because… well I bought a Mk8 R :P. The interior is just much nicer and has wayyyyyy more features than the others. It’s the best daily by a large margin. That was very cool to watch. I liked your analysis and hearing your opinions on how it looked and how it felt driving. One minor thing. Hyundai has to though. They need to stand out because nobody is going to buy a Hyundai unless it stands out a little more. The GTI has history. So does the WRX, so they don’t need to add all these weird lines, colors, and big wings, GeForce people to want to buy them, because people buy them for their history. Hyundai has zero history, so they need to “pop” on design and features.

Love it! Normal reviews are too plain Jane and I think that there is too much bias towards what grade the factory tires and cooling ability when CarandDriver do their annual laps around VIR. Way too intense to not modify the car to have a more suitable intercooler, brake, and tire set up. Perfect intensity to see what these cars are about from the factory. Have you guys done the Veloster N on an autocross? I think it might be the best choice to blend a shorter wheelbase of the GTI and the power of the Elantra N.

I've owned the EN for a little over 2 weeks and just crossed 900 miles, I'm a huge fan of turbo 4's and have been for over a decade. I've owned a WRX Impreza and loved it! I also recently owned an AWD 2017 VW Golf R - 6sp, with a stage 1 and sold it to buy the 2022 EN DCT. All of them are awesome cars in their own respect. I bought the EN just to have fun, it's not as quick as my Golf R, but it corners faster and sticks to the road like glue! You make a good point about the tires, those Pilot sports are pretty amazing. Hyundai has improved their long-term value considerably in the last few years. I think Hyundai will still be behind VW and Subaru for re-sale value, but not as bad as it was 5 yrs ago. Either way, they all excel at different things, I hate reading the "hater" comments about these cars.

What a great conclusion: every car is fun. They're all pretty evenly matched, I love the differences and competition between the cars. WRX will always get off that line faster, Golf will be a jack of all trade and corner better, and the Elantra is just fast with sport brakes/stiffened sus.

I like tests like this cause it shows horsepower isnt the end all be all. Tires, steering repsonse, traction, engine tuning, etc, all plays a huge part in a cars overall performance. Everyone always is about the horsepower numbers when numbers are just that: Numbers! A great example was how mad the subaru community was seeing the HP numbers for the VB WRX but it was tuned alot better from the factory with huge modding potential which we have consistently seen so far.
