2022 VW Tiguan R full review

Speaking of R-Line, is there a petition we could sign to get VW to change the name? Having names that close are so confusing to all concerned. We don't see M Series and M-Line or AMG and AMG-Line. I totally agree with the first guy, there's no explaining the too close similarities between the two models. When people are asked to pay significantly more for one car over the other, it needs to not only perform better, but look significantly different as well. Remember, 9 out of 10 people aren't going to look critically at minute differences. All they'll notice is that one guy paid a lot more for a car that looks identical to the one they paid a lot less to buy. The Tiguan R should have more than just one or two hidden quirks and features you can ONLY get when you buy an R. Things like: special seats (2nd row Captain's chairs?) 2) distinctive color interior, 3) Unique sound system, 4) Unique look (power adjustable?) steering wheel -- this is a good one because its noticed immediately. Basically, anything unique people can notice the moment they open the door. Same thing with the wheels. It already has the quad tail pipes. Things like that, but more of them. Not sure what they were thinking when they came up with that title. If R is to be the flagship of the model, it needs to have a distinctive -- and unique -- moniker all of its own. By "blackout things" he mean the onboard camera can detect oncoming vehicles and turn off the portion of the headlight that would blind them. Like using a visor to block out the blinding sun. BTW, don't forgot the Touareg R. VW's flagship.

Thanks for watching and excellent comment - and we agree with you. R should be special and should make you feel that you have a model that is at the peak of the brand. Oddly there isn't a GTI line? Brands are starting to merge their top levels into mainstream though, BMW have M bits added to 'regular' models, same with AMG - we assume that this gets the name out there and opens up to a wider (cheaper) market. Is knowing that you have a pure R enough or does it need to shout about it to those not in the know (we think the latter). Anyway, we'll sign your petition!

Yes agree with your comments. My Tiguan R,Dolphin Grey(a Sleeper),is the Blackout,1st Edition,sun roof ,Kardon sound,an a amazing machine,but as you say,it needs a lil more aggresive touch,eg flared wheel arches,more throaty exhaust,to make it stand out as a performance wagon,& set it apart from the R line..as a friend said when he saw my car..oh,it's an R line..mmm..I said no..I paid a lot more for it than a R Line!

Formentor isnt a SUV, more a XUV. More mapped to a TROC R. These also have the new torque vectoring comapred to the older haldex on the formentors. Night & Day difference there.

The engine cover was removed by the factory, it falls off and catches fire on the turbo - New car, new recall.
