Tying these up here in Eastern Canada, very nice tie, but you should proudly display your finished fly by zooming in. Thanks for sharing all.

@@tacticalflyfisher3817 thanks!!’ I absolutely love ready Tactical Fly Fisher tournament blogs, especially on this last event. I’ve read then two to three times each so far. I’m kind of a slow learner I guess , lol. Thanks!!!!

I'm amazed at how effective the olive perdigon flies are on a variety of streams.

It's certainly a reliable fly.

Great idea Devin. Looking forward to testing this one out. FYI, the Diabaetis 2.0 and 2.3 mm did really well for me back here in NY this fall and the last couple frigid weeks in shallow clear water. Thanks as always for sharing.

Glad to hear the Diabaetis has been good for you. Happy tying and fishing.

Thank you for the excellent counsel. I am new to Euro Nymphing convert and referred by a friend to your site. Does the slotted bead head flip the fly over. I am thinking about tying a realistic stonefly, I want it not to flip over on its back. Should I use a regular weighted bead head or does the slotted bead head even flip over? Thank you, for your counsel. Dan Brent and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Note: I will be shopping on your site for the materials as well!😀
@tacticalflyfisher3817 Жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, If you prop the bead up enough on smaller flies it will invert the fly occasionally. If you are tying a stonefly that you don't want to flip over, the just make sure the bead is in line with the hook shank instead of propped up. You can rotate it the other way to prop it downward as well. It's usually less of an issue on larger flies though because the thicker hook gauge doesn't allow the bead to pivot much. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well and have fun at the vice and on the water.

So simple. I don’t tie flies but if I did, I’d start with this one.

Prova a fare una base in filo bianco avrai un effetto traslucido che esalta il materiale...in alternativa una base in tinsel perla...chiudi con filo rosso senza sacca alare. Poi mi dirai...saluti da Italia 😀😀

When you say that the slot should be facing down and toward the hook point, i assume you mean that the squared off end of the slot should be on bottom while the rounded end of slot is on top? The black UV resin still fills the slot and sometimes may leak out of the front of the bead and into the hook eye. Am i doing something wrong here?
@tacticalflyfisher38172 жыл бұрын
Lloyd, It's hard to say without a picture but there should be a side of the slot that is closer to the hole in front than the other side. That is the side of the slot that should be braced against the hook shank. This will tilt the bead up a bit. The best way to keep the resin from running into the eye is to add some extra thread wraps behind the bead. Then apply the resin in two small applications with a quick hit from the UV light in between to set the first one right away.

Can you please provide the URL to the blog entry regarding the wing case positioning? I had no luck finding it.
Do you have much success using fluoro orange beads?
@tacticalflyfisher3817 Жыл бұрын
There are some instances where they are more effective than any other beads in my experience but I would say that they tend to be ineffective more often than not though.

Great fly Devin, I use something similar to that here in the UK 🇬🇧. Works brilliantly for Yorkshire trout and grayling. Going to give the dark wingcase a go on the top of the shank and see if it makes a difference.

Glad to hear it works in the UK as well!

Hi how does this compare to quildogon and when do you use each?
@tacticalflyfisher38172 жыл бұрын
They both work. I tend to test both on a given day and see if the trout show a preference.

18 bob for black resin? I'll just use clear UV and a black Sharpie.

What is the recommended size bead for size 18 hook?
@tacticalflyfisher38172 жыл бұрын
Dennis, I will use a 2 or 2.3 mm bead on the size 18 Dohiku 303 which is closer to a size 20. Depending on the hook you use, you could also use up to a 2.8 mm bead on an 18.

Why is that cap not on the TFF for sale?
@tacticalflyfisher38172 жыл бұрын
It is the trucker cap we have on the site. The photo is of the previous color variation which we are going to update but the current one we have is the one I was wearing in the video.

Thanks Devin. I don’t use wing cases on my perdigons and they work fine. Is the wing case for the fish or the tier?
@tacticalflyfisher38172 жыл бұрын
Good question Dale. I definitely like the aesthetic of adding the wing case but I've done them without and can't say they fish differently for sure.
