2022 Wyoming High-Country Mule Deer Hunt

Mine and my brother’s 2022 Wyoming deer hunt. Together we drew an early season, high-country deer tag and made the most of it with two great bucks taken.

yeah because he luckily hit it in the neck. 9 times out of ten a bullet that far off the mark would have been wounded. It is nothing to celebrate. Just another guy taking long shots, getting lucky, and posting the result. Wonder how many he hasn't posted that weren't so lucky.

@@bneaclab1 the reality is modern guns and optics are designed and well capable of making ethical shots at that distance IF conditions are right and the shooter in practiced and knows his limits. Is it ideal to get closer? Sure. Who are you to say you know what another hunter's capabilities are?? I've seen many videos and personal experience where even under 300 yd shots don't hit exactly as intended because of circumstances. It can happen at ANY distance. The result here was an instant kill but you can't resist throwing shade rather than congratulating him for a great buck. 🤡

@@muskycoop The 'realities' is animals can move during bullet flight time, wind is often impossible to gauge accurately, and downrange energy levels leave little room for error. Again...the shot on the second buck was off far enough that it was very luck to be a lethal hit. Calibers and bullet technology should be increasing accuracy and killing power out to 500 yards max, not 1000. No one will ever convince me that there are not more wounded animals out there because of the increase in long range shots. It's all part of hunting and 'it happens' seems to be the typical response nowadays too.

Great bucks guys! Congrats! How wide did that 3 pt. end up being? He was a TANK! Glad you didn't pass him up. And even cooler to have spotted him during scouting season. That other 4pt. the other guys had at the end of the video looked like a dandy too! WY was good in 2022! I killed a dandy myself. Thanks for sharing yer video

The buck taped out at 29 1/2 inches!! He was a big ol’ mature mountain buck for sure. That other buck on the pack pole was a dang good 4 point that we watched those guys pack out for almost 3 miles. Pretty sure we scouted that buck as well during the summer. Good to hear it was a good year for you as well, thanks for watching!

Both packs used were Kuiu pro 5500. Great packs that can “comfortably” haul heavy loads. 100#+ on a pack isn’t gonna be easy by any means but the pack makes it doable!

Yes early rifle season in Wyoming. The first buck was shot with a Christensen Mesa 6.5 creedmore. The second buck was shot with a Browning x-bolt long range 7 mag with a 162 gr. eldx bullet. Both did a fine job 😎💥

You can get excited about that long shot but the reality is you were lucky it was a lethal hit. I don't imagine you were aiming for the neck at 775 yards. Doesn't matter how much you practice and know your gun. 775 is too far.

@@hoggetteroutdoors5723 Is the bull!@#$ knee deep where you are from? 300 to 600 'maybe', but I doubt even that. And did you not see where the bullet impacted the deer? Totally lucky it was a lethal hit. It is a good demonstration of why not to take such absurd long shots. Bullet flight time, animal movement, wind, accuracy issues... Just not a good idea. People who take such shots lose animals, and probably say 'that's part of hunting...'. It is just not ethical. And what is with the Bald and Bankrupt comment? That is out of left field.

I agree. 775 is too far. I'm a pretty good shot. I'm actually a sniper. And I decided to limit my shots on game to 700 yards under ideal conditions. Closer in circumstances with extreme wind or other weather variables. I have the ability to shoot over a mile. I'm very confident in getting first round hits at distances past 800 meters. But if I'm shooting steel or an enemy it's okay if I hit the edge of the target. I still get the effect I want. But animals move unpredictably sometimes, and wounding an animal is something I never want to do. It's usually more enjoyable to get closer anyways. My furthest rifle kill was 175 yards. I mostly bow hunt anyways.
