Standard TR-1 is 90hp. The TR-1 HO, according to Yamaha, makes 13% more HP than the old MR1, which made 110. So that should put the TR-1 HO right at 125hp. I've got a 2023 Jetblaster on order. Already bought Riva Sponsons, ride plate, intake grate, impeller and exhaust.

I have and currently ride a matching pair of Wave Blaster 2’s…this certainly seems like a better comparison than to that of a WB1. I would love a pair of WB2’s but the compromises forced us into the WB2s which we are still happy with. These could be a fitting replacement for sure.

Hey Kevin, great review! I just ordered a new Jet Blaster this morning and I can't freaking wait to try this thing out. Quick question... there will be rare occasions when I want to do some non-freestyle riding, like towing a tube. I was considering getting a set of adjustable sponsons so that I could adjust the handling/stability on the fly, depending on what type or riding I want to do. Would that work? Or is this a really dumb idea? Thanks!

Added traction will always help any ski. Think of it like performance tires for your car. Even a boring 4-door sedan will benefit from superior tires (depending upon the season and road conditions).

Just started watching your channel last month. Love the content and advice! Just put down a deposit on our first ever ski, a 2022 vx cruiser ho. I wanted the jet blaster, but the salesman talked us into the vx based on where we will be riding it and fact that I will have my gf with me often (mostly Connecticut river, but also adventure out into Long Island sound). What is your take on the vx cruiser ho? Should I leave it stock or eventually throw some mods on it? For the first year or 2 I’m thinking of just riding it and enjoying it. Thank you!

When the EXR came out you said it was the most fun you could have, would you say this is even more fun? To me it seems like EXR +trim +footwedges +90s style, so while I realise it's not the same, as you said on Sunday stream What does the EXR do better than the Jetblaster?
@watercraftjournal
@watercraftjournal 2 жыл бұрын
The two are spiritually different. The EXR was really geared to be a small racer. The JetBlaster is trimmed differently (there's no true neutral - even neutral trim is up) and its taller steering neck and foot wedges change the rider's posture purposefully for freestyle tricks. The 'Blaster does this better than the EXR for sure.

I am trying to decide if I want to go with this or the VX cruiser. I currently have a 95 Wave Runner III and have been riding it since 95. Anything is an upgrade at this point. On one hand I like the the Jet blaster looks like I can continue to have fun that I have been enjoying for 26 years. On the other hand the VX cruiser HO looks like we'll more of a cruiser and maybe not as fun or the fun I am used to. I can see pros and cons to both.

This looks fun. Question: we live on a calm lake in Michigan, have a 2013 Yamaha FZS. Super stable, fast but boring. Considering a 2022 Superjet. But thinking maybe this Jetblaster might be an option. I have never had a stand up. My 16 year old son will also be riding. @@jonathantate6048 It seems like comparison articles are frowned upon or downright not allowed by the PWC manufacturers if you want to get press/review access. In the automotive or motorcycle world there are all kinds of multi-model shoot outs and comparison tests directly pitting competing products against each other. From what I can find, this is absent in the PWC market. You can find direct specification/feature comparisons, but detailed comparison articles are with some subjective comparison by the reviewer are no where to be found. No shade against the Watercraft Journal, that just seems to be the way things work with PWCs.

Having been into these things since '95 (Wave Raider 1100), I love anything LIGHT and RETRO. However, I'm not interested at all in its "squirrely-gig" capabilities. No-where in our primarily Suwannee River riding to safely do this. So how 'bout just being something fun to just cruise down the river for a day? Esp. for my conservative young 115 lb. wife. Size-wise, it's perfect for her. I'll mostly stick with my Jim's-modded FZS 1800 SVHO. So, fuel efficiency -wise, any comparisons with the 2-up Spark?
@watercraftjournal
@watercraftjournal 2 жыл бұрын
The Yamaha TR-1 is a stellar powerplant and like all the other Yamaha 4-strokes, very fuel efficient. The 'Blaster can easily serve double duty, both as a fun, playful toy and a one or two-up rider (obviously, it's not as cush as a VX or FX). Plenty of enthusiasts use their EX models for long distance rides, so it is doable for sure.

Although I'm a huge proponent of new models; this is a direct competitor to the Spark Trixx with absolutely no mention of it. The only thing I have to ask is the following: did Yamaha put a hush order on you not to talk about Sea-Doo at all? At 4:30 you state that it's a take back to 1994 on the WaveBlaster - I don't believe this statement to be accurate and your watchers/readers aren't going to believe that it is a homage to the WaveBlaster. Coming from your readers/subscribers - we're not naïve and we look to you for the most honest opinion of it. Otherwise, the video review is fantastic and the visuals are stunning. That's just my 2 cents, thanks!

@watercraftjournal 2 жыл бұрын
I saw your video earlier this week and know your feelings on the matter. No, I did NOT say it was a "take back" but a "spiritual" homage to the B1. That's some very loose connective tissue. And yeah, Yamaha absolutely positively doesn't want me mentioning their competitors in our articles or videos (they also read the comments here too - hi guys!). So rather than name-dropping the Trixx, I reviewed the JetBlaster exactly on its own merits. Is it fun? You bet. Can you do exactly what is advertised? Yup. Personally, a true "WaveBlaster" would've been a 1-seater with the new SuperJet hull and powertrain, but I don't think Yamaha is bold enough to build such a ski. -K

@WeTryMotorsports 2 жыл бұрын
@@watercraftjournal Kevin, I definitely appreciate follow up and honesty. I agree with the video otherwise and would imagine the Jetblaster to be ultra-fun in its own right but it's not what Yamaha is trying to make it be - which I believe should have been stated (from an honesty prospective). I'm super happy to hear that we're on the same page when thinking the SuperJet hull/engine would make a perfect true homage, but I hope Yamaha understands what the public wants. Bold? Yes. Doable? Extremely. This is why Sea-Doo is running away with the market and Yamaha should see (besides some die-hards), this is a real threatening situation to their overall pwc market. After all, the Watercraft Journal is a news source to us - the public and we respect your reviews! I really dig the long-format videos because your honestly shows and what you really think comes out, which is amazing to hear. Again, my two cents. Can't wait to get one on the water myself but I feel like I'm going to be in a retirement home before a true WB1 reboot is seen lol

Appreciated. Here's the rub: if you want to play with the rich kid's toys, you gotta play by the rich kid's rules. Often there's small ways to circumvent, which I often find but again, access to the OE's is the way this whole operation works. Without it I may be "freer" to vocalize in a more candid tone, but I wouldn't have the opportunities to ride the machines like I do (although, I have managed to sneak out that too). Back to the point: You're not going to see a 1-seater from Yamaha. The corporate culture is to always "play it safe" and a really rowdy 1-seater is well outside of the realm that Yamaha's lawyers are comfortable with. Could they build one? 100% Is there a demographic of people who would buy it? 1000% But going out on a limb isn't their style. They'll let Kawasaki build an X2 first (which isn't going to happen either). -K

It’s literally written all over your ski and in the owner’s manual. It’s one of the primary causes for hull failure and powertrain damage. Plus, people get hurt. We gotta side with the lawyers on this one.

Because BRP is a Canadian company it's not paying the same tariffs that Yamaha is. That and the CAN vs. USD exchange.

It won't. It's tougher than that. And considering its such a smaller craft, there's even less chance of stress cracking.

Dude get off the lake and hit the surf. I do loads of wave jumping in the surf with nano excel 2 hull (2020 EXR) and the hull doesn’t miss a beat. Just don’t land flat on big air .. same goes with fibreglass and SMC

@@Spruikermania I been offshore racing for 22 years from Africa jet raids, Orleron in France many times I was part of the international offshore Factory Seadoo race team along with Cyril Lemoine and Franky Zapata, I have won World, European and National offshore race titles so please don't lecture me on riding lakes as I only have ridden world wide endurance sea races, I have seen multiple failures over two decades of Yamaha SMC and nano hull failures. Wave jumping a low powered light craft like an EXC you may get away with but serious long endurance races with 300hp + you will not for sure.
