It took YEARS of work to get my 2016 XSR in a place that I think it is excellent and it took reworking the clutch, tuning, dyno, replacement parts, etc. Now it looks and sounds like you get all of that excitement out of the box without tweaks. Awesome job, Yamaha

I modified my xsr heavily, but only after the first year. The new one is a completely different animal. I wouldn’t trade, but I’m interested in other owners opinions. For me it’s perfect ergos, and the rest. The new one doesn’t have that. You? Full disclosure, I’ve had 4 Yamaha triples and the mt10. Cheers
@That1J1
@That1J1 Жыл бұрын
@@user-hf8ie8mf3n I came off of a a late 2000s Bonneville onto the XSR after trying the thruxton RS, CB1000, Z900, and street triple. I liked them all for different reasons, but they weren't as rowdy as the XSR. I just finished modding mine after several years, exhaust, sliders, dyno and tune, tank panels, seat, LED lights, road tires, suspension, clutch, etc. and it feels PERFECT right now. Honestly, am going to ride it until batteries catch up with bikes and go electric. I couldn't imagine riding anything else after spending so much love and time on this animal. All of that said, if I did end up with a 2022 I don't think I would be as happy. The 2016 was right place right time for me, and I'm happy for Yamaha's refinement of the ride, but would pick accidental wheelies with a less aggressive rider position any day. I am a hooligan and the xsr900 2016-2018 is a hooligan bike

OC: I’ve been seriously considering a triple after my current SV and not wanting to take that liter bike insurance hit. The question was Street Triple, MT09, or XSR900. I’d have to buy a used Striple but I was sketch on that idea, the MT09 is more hooligan style than I care for, but the XSR seems to be just right.
@lazzygnome4060
@lazzygnome4060 Жыл бұрын
Just to lend some ease of mind to the idea of buying a used Street Triple, I bought one this year as my first bike, and haven't had any issues with it at all. It's the RX model from 2015 (basically the precursor to the RS) and I put over 6,000 miles on it this year alone. Did my own 30,000 mile service, and it runs great. While I can't possibly compare it to the MT-09 or the XSR-900, I can say that a used Street Triple is a good choice given that you have the ability to pick one up.
@mikehoskin1674
@mikehoskin1674 Жыл бұрын
I'd say there shouldn't be any issues with a low mileage street triple, I have a 2011 triumph daytona 675, the bike the 765 striple was derived from, it has 15,000km I've had it since July last year, my 2021 mt09 since July '21 and a 2017 SV650 since 2017, which ever bike you go with, you shouldn't have any reliability problems. I'd go with the '21 mt09 though, it's the most fun and well put together bike if you're still young or young at heart, and I'd say it's pretty comfortable too with an aftermarket seat and the suspension tuned right.

I've heard you say that the MT09/xsr900 has more of a scalpel type of feel too it, totally agree. I've owned my 09 now for a year and it's power delivery makes it feel like a scalpel on the street. Its very precise, hard hitting, but not that thumper grunty feel you get out of some of the other naked bikes. At least compared to the other Yamaha naked bikes

Some people say that yamaha looks ugly and i can't directly find this 80s vibe in this bike. Still it reminds me those supersport bikes from 90s where after some minor crashes people often transformed them into streetfighters, probably due lack of money or time to repair. I kinda like that ❤
@veljkovic92
@veljkovic92 Жыл бұрын
Probably the main reason why you feel you can ride this bike quicker/faster than 09 is it's geometry which is much more sporty. The weight is more on front wheel, kinda like on 07 or 10 and the riding position is slightly more on wrists which i personally prefer much more than 09. When i sat on this xsr it was immediately obvious for me that it will be much funnier and more agile bike than 09. I just don't like that 90deg upright position that 09 gives.

So on an xsr900 I should be able to do 200kph around 75kph corners? I'm already doing 150-170 around said corners on a '21 mt09. Don't think it has anything to do with the handlebar position, think it's all in what you're used to. I outride bikes with double the horsepower ony 2017 sv650 in the twisties, most of the time they're sports bikes or super sports.

Just bought a 2024 as my 2nd bike. I was looking for a light, surgical bike to supplement my R1300GS. Wow, does it deliver! One thing not many people mention... with the bar mirrors, you don't SEE any of the bike in front of you going down the road. Everything is out of my field of vision; literally feels like flying!! Also surprised that there is very little to no buzz in the mirrors at highway speeds. Waiting for the rain to stop to take her back out ;-)

Got one on order. Had a previous gen MT09, but got rid of it because the suspension was lacking and the chassis, while great fun, was just a bit chaotic. Looking forward to a CP3 bike with a more settled chassis, and hopefully better suspension calibrations for aggressive use.

How do u like it over the mt09?
@leanit5756
@leanit5756 11 ай бұрын
@@2Petya I like the XSR way better. The chassis feels very stable, like my R1. The shock and fork are pretty good after dialing in close to max rebound damping, and some compression damping on the fork. The shock isn't adjustable for compression damping, but if anything, there is too much any way. Fine for going fast on smooth roads, but a bit much for easier use on rougher roads. The only real downside is the EURO 5 tuning... just like on the MT10, R1, etc. If you like to really ride hard, you will notice there is electronic bullshitery taking place that modifies power deliver, at least in the lower gears. If I had to do it again, I would go with the XSR... but again, my MT09 as the previous, not current generation.

@@leanit5756 thx for the reply. I test rode the current mt09. Awesome bike, but had handlebar wobble multiple times. Didnt like that. Guess the xsr is not like that cos of the longer swingarm. Currently riding a tracer 7. Had crazy strong engine brake and insane on off throttle. Had it ecu flashed, but only disabled deceleration fuel cut. Left the oem map, left the O2 sensor enabled, everything. Only with the decel fuel cut off, it got way better. Lesser engine braking, and got much smoother, no more horsekick from 0% throttle.

I just cant do naked I have to have the fairing and not a little fly screen or other miniscule affair. So....buy a fairing and do an install video and? I'll subscribe forever

It be nice if you could do a 30 day review of the CLX 700 Sport. I agree with about 400-900cc is all you would need for the road.

If I didn’t buy a Street Triple 765 RS a few months ago, I would be buying one of these in spring. I’ll still take the triumph over it, but this seems like an excellent bike and a huge improvement over the old one

I’m a huge triumph fan having owned two speed triples a 955 and 1050. I havnt risen in a few years and I’m stuck between this and a street triple. I wish triumph would do a retro street with similar looks of the trident but with steer triple performance. I just love the retro styling and the insurance on this bike is significantly cheaper.

@@ryanblacklock3005 I’m only paying $113 a year for liability and comprehensive. I don’t think you can go wrong either way. The triumph will be the better performer and have a higher quality fit and finish, and better parts. The XSR is still a great bike from what I can tell and has the styling you like. And it’s cheaper than even the base street triple. Decisions decisions. I’d vote for the street but I’m biased

I've never really understood the joy of riding on a rear wheel. Fast driving in corners requires the front wheel to have a good grip on the road. AND in Denmark, you risk losing your driver's license.

OC: no the MT is better. Get a windscreen and powder coat the wheels a color you want. Might not have cruise control which sucks yes. But it will look better and perform perfectly. Also there’s an SP if you find one. If you want track performance without spending a lot of money Street Triple RS. If you want looks and performance and have the bank. Then get a hyper naked or at the bare minimum a Streetfighter V2

Please Yamaha put a v-max engine inside an XSR chassis thank me later when you sell like hotcakes.... You're not going to be able to because of emissions and fuel economy. Maybe a smaller v4? 800cc V4 efi yamaha engineered monster but make it an RD800F ... That be a cool neo retro bike ... The RD series is godly

I tend to prefer the all black version on bikes, and there is one for the XSR900... But the blue/gold combo is..... Yeah, I'd choose the blue and gold over th eblack any time on this particular bike!. So beautiful! and such a nice bike to ride! OC: I do love this bike, but what about the Street triple R or RS? tthe Yammy probably looks better, but the triples aren't bad either.

As a mid-life (crisis) beginner rider, I've been hedging my bets on getting a CB650R or Trident 660, would this be too much? I've heard it's quite snatchy on the throttle? Never looked at it before as I don't really like the MT's, but his looks amazing! Probably too powerful but riding modes help
@msromike123
@msromike123 2 күн бұрын
Man, it depends on so many things. Any bike can be a big mistake. They don't go faster than you are capable of IF you have self-control and don't actually twist the throttle too far. If you are older, have a fairly clean driving record and know deep in your heart that you have reasonable impulse control, you would probably be ok. Also, as a beginner on a 425 lb bike, you need good strength and be able to flat foot it or come damn close to it. You could go with a Ninja 500 and that would be fine as long as you realize you will be replacing it in 12 to 18 months. I mean if money is no object get a Ninja 500 and learn on a true "beginner bike." Then replace it with the XSR900. That would be the common wisdom. As a frame of reference, I have been riding for 50+ years, and have had ZX-9R, K1600GT, and an R1250GS. About a dozen motorcycles over 200k miles. AND I am somewhat concerned about this XSR900 being a tad too much. But I am buying one tomorrow all things said (66th birthday in 2 days.)

@@msromike123 great wisdom right there, thanks man. I can drive it as fast as I like, but with 25 years driving behind me I’m more of a cruising kind of guy, although find cruiser bikes too low. It’s such a nice bike but my funds will determine if I get it or the CB650R. Even looked at 401 Vitpilens and sub 500’s but I know they’ll bore me after a few months. My wife would lose her sh1t if I changed my bike after a year so I need to choose wisely 🤣
