The sheer amount of shop time the Suburban has spent this year is dismaying. I am still working 6-7 days a week, because that is simply what my life is right now. The problem with handing your truck off to a shop, for me because some of it is above my skill set and some is a time issue; the problem is when the shops don't care about my junk as much as I do. I did not accomplish what I wanted to in this installment, just pissed myself off.

Truck looks great. Very good work and really clean underneath. Shop did a great job. Really liking the relocated front axel, looks like it could have been a factory location with those larger tires. Good idea on all the beefed up drivetrain components. 454 is a powerhouse. I've seen them in mid sized RVs.

I have a 1995 K1500 (original owner). In Texas, once a vehicle reaches 25 years of age its exempt from smog checking. I just added an auxiliary battery to my Suburban and had to remove the vapor canister to make room. The way I see it, the charcoal was pretty much long depleted anyway so out it went (not to mention no more air pollution checks). Edit: I invested in a pair of metric and SAE thread gauges...my '95 seems to have both type of fasteners. You may want to get yourself a set if you don't already have one. Great job, GM.

And that is why Texas is a better state. Smog checks are a gov revenue racket at this point any how. Simply having methanol injection should be enough to exempt me. Yeah, the 90s trucks are mixed with SAE and Metric since the motors are the final rendition of a decades long line. Has me considering replacing the motor with the modern Big Block 8.1L when the time comes.

I think if I can track down a piece with the right threads, this solution will actually work. Meaning, don’t use the part from the 5.7L motor. Having the right tubing and flaring kit would help.

I would say the first step is to find out exactly what that thread is. Then you might be able to find an alternative.

Such an Awesome Rig! I completely understand your passion and the desire to keep one's older vehicles running and built into a unique rig that totally suits an individuals needs and desires. I actually don't understand the people trading in a perfectly good vehicle to give away more money for the latest vehicle that often isn't really any better then the older one, is probably less reliable with all the electronic tech going into them and makes lots of people have to work more hours to make the payments.

We refuse to have a car payment. When I rent newer vehicles I never like them like I do my old junk.

@@rockymtnredneck4888 Absolutely. Old rigs that have been cared for and customized to fit the owners needs and wants are so much more satisfying imo then an expensive new vehicle that you can't work on, have questions about its reliability, and are paying an arm and a leg for.

@@rockymtnredneck4888 It does suck when needing to have others work on the vehicle if your not super sure the shop will do reputable work. But then again bad shops are doing bad work on the new vehicles too so I guess there is a silver lining again with an older vehicle you can at least know whats going on so you can check over a shops work when ya get it home often. Can't tell ya how many times I've had to tighten/ torque bolts and reattach harness location brackets after I've had my truck in the shop for some work I couldn't do or more realistically didn't have the time to do.

@@richardwinningham8499 appreciate your suggestions, but you aren’t bringing up anything I haven’t already looked at. Junk trucks have the same issue mine did. The coupler is heat cycle welded into the exhaust manifold. You cannot get them out. Stay tuned. I’ll get it solved.
