Dear Michael, thank you! I would like to share some of my thoughts! I am not sure if I am qualified in any way to speak here but any way I am sharing my thoughts for whatever they are worth! Anything that can be put in words is not the TRUTH no matter who has said those words and I say this to include the greatest of teachers including Sri Ramana himself!! Brahma Satya Jaggat mithya!! Only Brahman is true and the world ( Includes all the manifest world with people etc and the world of thoughts etc) is false. Aham Brahmas mee!!! I am Brahman! Our true self is what we are in deep sleep! Because we are at total peace in deep sleep!!! The word Ananda in the Sat Chit Ananda makes more sense if translated as PEACE and not as Happiness/Bliss. Peace describes our basic nature more accurately! Death is an illusion as nothing can die!! Even the body cannot die as it is already a dead structure made of matter and is animated by prana/primordial energy. Just as a motor vehicle performs its designated functions as long as it is properly maintained and supplied the necessary energy so the body works and will be recycled once it has served its designated purpose. So even the body cannot die but will be broken down to component parts and recycled! Just as we can project a dream world we have projected this waking world and the game of attaining Moksha/Enlightenment is part of this projection! Our true self is always free and all knowing all powerful infinite! All manifestation is the Leela of the SELF by whatever name we choose to call it!! Thank you once again!

The ego assumes the practise of self-inquiry by investigating : Who am I? The trick is to recognise that it's the ego that does the practise. You cannot be positively identified because the ego will grasp it. You cannot be negatively identified because the ego will resist it. Simply ask yourself : To whom is this thought arising? To whom? It's the ego that wants to know. If you have the grace of Bhagavan and you are genuinely asking the question : to whom is this thought arising? Then the ego will take flight. The ego cannot remain established when it's seen to be absent. Absent by having no legitimate existence.

@@muralidharankv169 Why not? The ego needs to catch itself playing at it's own game. Only then is the grip of ego loosened by the self-revelation of it's mischief. As the ego disintegrates, (by recognition of it's antics), the stillness and silence of the True Reality becomes evident. Fundamental consciousness is self-luminous. Consequently, there is no requirement for the ego to recognise it. It recognises itself.

@@muralidharankv169 Advaita means, One without a second. So this ego isn't secondary. The rope isn't a snake. When God thinks "I am" we become ego. Without forsaking Truth we are the one God. Siva. Ego is our divine misunderstanding. The path begins where we are. As ego. As delusion we begin to reveal the Reality of oneness by accepting our ignorance. Not by denying it. So the ego is faced with decommissioning the ego in order to be God.

@@davidstrevens9170”The path begins where we are, as ego. So the ego is faced with decommissioning the ego in order to be God.” Agreed. But even though the ego wants to be God, and knows that it will be wonderful to be God, it will not accept the proposition of its own death. That is the crux of the human dilemma. Is there any smooth way to achieve this goal?

The ego is something like an image of ourself appearing on the mirror and the true Self is the person before the mirror. When we ask who am i? We see the appearing mirror image and perceive as the Self, the ego is like a bubble which seems to make the unlimited Self as limited/restricting it, this bubble will be broken by only through an insight/implicit knowledge that the true Self is me standing infront of the mirror and there wont be any image appearing on the mirror without me standing there. This insight knowledge might come through constant practice or by grace of the Self itself, the experience of deep sleep is as close as we can get to realization, in deep sleep there is no mirror present but the person is still present in just pure awareness, by waking up the mirror comes back and the reflection appears and the true Self grabs the reflected image on the mirror as 'I' which is infact ego (reflected consciousness), that insight knowledge is not easy as told here it will take lifetimes spiritual practices to gain that knowledge.

Is not ego present in casual body in seed form? In deep sleep there is only awareness, but that awareness is of nothingness which is not an awakened state. In deep sleep pure awareness is cloaked in ignorance. Hence can someone explain whether context of ego is relevant w.r.t casual body?

Riddle me this. If there is one ego, how is it that when Buddha woke up, that it was not over for all sentient beings? Thus, there must be multiple egos. Yet, that means multiplicity exists, which contradicts non-duality. What would make egos separate from each other? Interestingly, on western lines, Hegel thought he had accomplished the end of history and full realization of God when he recognized the play of the Absolute through human history. Nobody seemed to be convinced though. Mercy on us all. It is interesting that in western philosophy the reality of the world, the thing-as-such, was doubted to the point that Nietzsche said what's the point of trying to find the Absolute, since it cannot be known in itself. Maharshi's answer is something close to, actually the Absolute is the only thing we can know. This leads us to the mystery of what would it mean "to know" in this context, the final epistemological question. To wit, does it fulfill the demands of knowledge or does it transcend knowledge? The importance of the sleep state is something I have not seen in western philosophy; in Sartre's Being and Nothingness, I do not recall anything about that in the roughly 1,000 pages of phenomenology of human experience. Plato spoke of dreams and myths, but sleep I do not recall every hearing about.

When I investigate I cannot find a self.
@SriRamanaTeachings
@SriRamanaTeachings Жыл бұрын
Yourself is not an object that you need to find. You, the ‘I’ who is investigating and who says ‘I cannot find a self’, are yourself the self that you should be investigating. There is never a moment when we are not aware of ourself, but though we are always aware of ourself, we do not pay attention to ourself because we are more interested in attending to other things, including the person (the body and mind) that we mistake ourself to be. Therefore self-investigation is just being self-attentive instead of self-negligent. That is, instead of attending to anything else and thereby neglecting ourself, we need to attend to ourself, meaning our own being, our fundamental awareness, ‘I am’. We should not be looking for anything we do not already know, but should just be looking at the one thing that we always know, namely ourself, in order to see what we actually are. In other words, we should attend keenly to ourself in order to be aware of ourself as we actually are. It is as simple as that. Namo Ramanaya 🙏🙏🙏

Ref pt 1:07:08 1:09:58 1:12:34 1:12:55 1:18:09 Is it not true that all phenomenon that we can know about is none other than the radiance and power of source/IAM? That all "things" are in a way saying, ornaments of source? If so then they can be seen as servants of source if we recognize them as such instead of being entangled in by granting them identity and thereby serving them-so to say

Michael before I forget to ask I'm still confused. Who is aware? I thought it was ego is the only thing that is aware it's the reflected consciousness. When I say I'm aware of these thoughts these feelings these emotions this body this mind who's really aware? Isn't it really the false awareness ego? Yes I understand underneath the underlying assumed reality is the real self but we don't really realize that until we annihilate ego completely until then everything is ego. Can you please expound on this the next video. Thank you Bill

@johnmcdonald260
@johnmcdonald260 Жыл бұрын
@@anatureperson5551 That's not entirely correct. That what is aware of objects, feelings, phenomena is always the ego. As Bill said, reflected consciousness. However self or Jnana is not aware of anything, not even of Jnana. Because in order to be aware there needs to be a subject-object relationship (or duality) , the subject I who is aware of the object a tree etc. And "I" cannot be aware of another "I" - there is only one "I" [without a second]. That fact and intrinsic knowledge is revealed with vichara.

@@anatureperson5551 I am afraid you are missing totally the point. Bhagavan's “Who am I” as a question is not aimed to look for or get an answer, that is a most superficial understanding. To ask “Who am I?” and then expecting an answer of sorts [to appear] is not Self-enquiry. Nor the idea that the real answer is silence or whatever, that is a gross misunderstanding. There is nothing to hunt for, proper Self-enquiry is a very simple (yet subtle and deep) practice. There is no need to ask any questions at all with vichara. Michael has explained the practice so many times like in this video and still people have these false ideas as reflected in your comment.
