The 18650 removable battery was the best design choice I've seen in a while, way better than those old tiny BL-5C

yep the only reason i bought this. those old nokia bl-5c arent too bad but the quality of them is just poor with fakes and worn out batteries everywere. its easy to get hold of high quality 18650 cells from reputable online vape stores etc

Just make sure to replace it with a protected one though...the stock battery doesn't have undercharge protection

Great to see it receiving updates. I don't regret my purchase a second, even if it has shortcomings, but I'm sure the issues can be ironed out if it's given some time. What it really needs is a dedicated community and a more open software to edit to your liking. Tools to easily customize the UI, make button mappings and tinker with emulation settings. I see good potential here. Keep it up

Newer shipments come with July-August software which has AV volume and GBA in-game saving fixed, but no performance updates

Love this handheld. A few things though, how do you know if you have the most recent firmware? Also can you add roms etc if you out the SD card into a phone and transfer them over that way? I haven't got a PC anymore and haven't messed about with emulators or roms for years, so it seems very new to me in retrospective. (it's basically just to fix 1 game that isn't working, Final Fantasy 1,2 and 3 and SMW were the only reasons I got it)

Data Frog contracted the firmware/software out, they don't have the source. We have an alternative SDK from the chip manufacturer but it's really unstable. And the stock one can't be distributed 'cause it's an ALi Tech proprietary OS.

Everything about how you're doing this is fantastic. Only suggestion: Upload a copy of the img file to a service like google drive, even if you have to get somebody else in NA to do it? Downloading at 100kb/s is really slow, and it can't be good for your servers either. Seriously, great job though. This is better support than I've seen for some very expensive electronics.

OK GUYS, theres a GOOD INFO for all people claiming more Improve on SNES and GBA games. Just play the game and if the game becomes slow and low fps, just close game and start again fast. This make the game run a bit faster and playable. this works im some good games. Its Somthing.jpg :D

Update: poorly soldered speaker seemed to be the culprit and showed its head at the same time coincidentally. Ended up buying a replacement from Amazon and installed an improved speaker and it’s working. (Thought I’d follow up as there’s nothing worse when you’re looking for a solution to a problem and no one actually shows what they did.) hope it helps someone…

@datafrog982 could you please check the download server? Tried to download for 2 days, speed is low but much worse: the download always fails (sometimes after a couple 100MB, sometimes after ~1,5GB. random.). At the moment, the server is completely gone.

After 3 or 4 uses the device wouldn't activate. Just the red LED lit. So I popped tge SD card into a reader and put it in my laptop. The card is unreadable. Is there a host for the generic image or a wY of getting a replacement?

Then obviously the card is not working anymore. You needed to make a copy of that card in your pc and use a new one. Don’t know how you are going to get the files to get it running so, if you don’t have the files, you’ll may need to buy another one and make a copy of the new sd. I got a brand new one and the sd doesn’t work, I used the sd from another sf2000 and it worked, so yeah, it’s the sd.

Thank you for the guide! Will this handheld support PC Engine\TG-16 games in the future? Since they are 8-bit it seems they would be perfect for this hardware. I'm holding from buying for now since there's no PCE. Anyway, good luck to you guys with this product, it seems interesting and we need more budget devices like this. I'd love to see v2 version with better and smoother controls, maybe better sound, even if device would cost ~30$.

Try loading the game, pressing start and select then closing the game, then reloading the game. Loading it twice worked well for me for SNES.

Their software has triple buffering, but the LCD controller doesn't, and the refresh rates are different. There's a way to tweak video output timings, but probably no way to sync it to the controller, so some tearing will always be there. Anyway, I don't think original software releases can even tweak timings, look out for custom developments progress.
