The 48V MHEV system is very strange at first, but as someone who comes from a long line of hybrids it soon becomes second nature to adapt to the "pulse & glide" which this system prefers to run with the engine off at even 50mph speeds. This is also one of the smoothest start stop systems I've ever driven in a car of this price bracket - the BMW 230i & Mercedes A220 doesn't even come close.

I just test drove an A3 FWD version and was very impressed . I am considering a 23 A3 FWD with a 18in wheel black optic sport suspension pkg. 38mpg highway, regular fuel, and is quicker than the numbers reflect ( 201hp/221 torque)....because it also has a new mild hybrid 48 volt battery system which contributes to the acceleration/power. ( this adds 12hp and 37 lb ft of torque upon acceleration for short bursts). I am looking for a more practical replacement for my 2018 Audi TT Quattro and now retired and in NC and don't feel the need for Quattro. I am also considering a new MK8 VW GTI.....

Bought the 2023 in Navarra blue. Beautiful car. Went to buy the a4 but liked this better. I love small compact cars. This isn’t tint like people think.

How does this “mild hybrid system work”?? Do you need to charge it or replace a battery eventually. Was thinking it was a straight up gas engine till you mentioned it.

It was explained to me in full detail when I bought mine and I honestly still don’t fully understand it to a t. I do know it helps when starting the engine from it being completely off and also when it restarts in the stop start mode to help with efficiency. It also fills in the gaps where you would normally find turbo lag in the lower rpm range on most turbo cars, giving a much smoother power delivery.

I think the interior is beautiful even better then my mazda. Although i wonder how the longterm reliability would be on this. The turbo engine, mild hybrid, and auto stop start scares me. Im stickin to my mazda for a while lol.

New engine with the mild hybrid setup always will raise questions with reliability. I guess we will have to wait and see!

I have an 2013 A3 with black option. It rides horribly on potholed roads. Even on comfortable option. I think I made a mistake.

There were problems with infotainment system (MMI), and android wireless connection (ASI). Also automatic gearboxes from VW (DSG) has got quite bad reputation (problems with dry dual clutches around 100 000-200 000 km.) But if you buy new one, and you will take care about the car (changing oil every year/20 000 km max, turning of start/stop system, cooling down turbo etc.) it should be quite reliable as other VAG cars

Premium with no packages start at 37k going all the way up to 45k for premium plus with all the added packages.

There is a bit more to it, the AWD is a huge advantage. There is most definitely more power and the power comes smooth. It seems to ride slightly better as well with more sound insulation. More premium features are available too like 4 way lumber and a power passenger seat. Weather those features and attributes are worth the extra money is up to you!

Hey Justin, I see where you coming from. I have had VWs before. A bettle R line and a Jetta R line. Then I transitioned to Audi thinking the same thing. I got an A3 few years ago, then the S line 2023 with the dark package. Trust me when I say that they are far from being a glorified VW. 😊
