2023 Canyon Torque:ON CF Review | Could This Beast Of An e-MTB Be TOO Much Bike?

This is easily the best handling, best riding e mtb on anything with a downhill slope. Mine was 4800 USD on a black friday sale, and it smokes 13k Pivot Shuttles, any Specialized, Trek or whatever shows up on the mountain. If you have too many pedal strikes, you are too low on shock and fork pressure. If you cant climb on it, you just cant climb all that well. If you are denting rims like your photo, then you have not heard of Tannus Armour tube style inserts. Not only do they stop you from trashing your wheels, they let you run around 20 psi or less and make your bike ride like a magic carpet. If its too much bike, maybe a bit of practice will solve that. The Phoenix Az South Mtn trail complex has it all, from rolling 2 track with lots of rocks, and trials like climbs and descents with big rocks, some the size of trucks everywhere. I'm 65, and ride with a group of kids half my age or less, like 15 year old racers, some with 13,000 USD bikes, and none come close to the downhill capability, free ride fun, or ride quality of the Torque On CF8. I climb whatever they climb. and South Mtn. is a heck of a lot rockier than the school girl trail in your video. Great video btw, but it sounds like you just echoed what some other reviewer that cant ride fast or set up suspension properly said. Try some Tannus tube type inserts at 20 psi or even less, and put some air in the suspension, set the rebound right and try it again. It will seem like a different bike, and you will be faster than everyone else and your hands and arms will thank you.

I have the cf8 and with the little riding ive done i cant seem to hear the clunking of the motor. Mine also came with DT Swiss wheels? So far happy with the bike. Great review!

How odd, mine is great at technical climbs, obviously conscious of pedal timing , I’m in the Peak District uk, it fun and lively and turns in fast , my old bike was a Commencal metapower sx and same was said about that being “self shuttle “ dh bike lol but it was fine , my torque is happy going to get a pint of milk from the shops or decending gnarly dh, the stand out feature I have noticed is it has sublime composure and seems to seek out grip in all conditions

For those of you who don’t like the water bottle idea, the solution is simple - don’t fit the water bottle or the mount and simply cover the top tube with vinyl wrap.

1:22 "water"... 😂 my op on the bike: great price for a trail e-bike... BUT where i see the biggest problem is the frame on the thru axle, if you have a huge impact on the rear wheel... the material ontop of the thru axle where the frame holds it is REALLY thin... i imagine this is destined to fail/break. And you cannot fix this... If your thru axle breaks trough the frame upwards, your whole frame is done. I hope you know what i mean, kinda hard to describe the position of possible failure

They're longer than the alloy Torque:ON (which were REALLY short!), but for a bike of this travel and geometry they're still on the short side. [Wil]

What about the old ep8, is it still rattling a lot or did they find a solution to it by mounting the motor in a new angle and damping? @flowmountainbike

Yep, it still rattles! We seem to have gotten pretty used to it over the past few years, though the noise can vary from bike-to-bike depending on the frame design and motor housing. It's not too bad on the Torque:ON. The new EP801 motor has definitely improved in terms of noise, though the clacking is still there. Expect to see more bikes rolling through with the EP801 motor this year. [Wil]

I am.thinking about ordering one right now. Can't get an answer on how it would work for a large rider. I an just under 300 lbs recently lost 35 pounds from riding. I want to push some more.

Most bikes and ebikes are for MAX for 120kg. But I heard KTM did some model for even 150kg. You are basically too big guy and you need to count with possibly cracked frame

I bought this bike when it first came out. It’s too low to the ground. The motor went on me recently, and Shimano replaced it for free. I paid for the labor. Since the bike is so low, the motor cover ripped off and is somewhere in the woods… canyon can’t get me another. Struggling to get a new motor cable as well.

Wow, great looking bike. I actually like the bottle cage idea. But, you can't have a beast of a bike without the beast of a motor. And, the EP8 is not the best motor by a long ways. It's a good motor, probaly in the top 3 or 4...but unless you have the Bosch CX or CX-R, you are playing second best motor. I have 5 bikes, 3 EP8 and 2 CX. The Bosch, simply put, has more and better power every where over the EP8 or any other motor IMHO. Point is, the bike would be a REAL beast with the CX or R motor.

I have an yeti 160E T3 with the new shimano ep801 motor and it has way more power than i need, i guess if lazy people would want the least effort yes they should buy a bosch motor. But i dont get how people say shimano motor are weak. Must be fat people with 200 kg riding it then. Bosch is more power but shimano is still way more power than normal people will need 🍺

@@peakz1099 I own several emtbs. CX's and EP8's. And the Bosch motor is every way better than the EP8...this is just plain fact. The Bosch wins every shootout for a reason. The EP8 is a good solid motor. But, if you like ripping, the CX kills the EP8 every time.

@@mikenimmick3920 as I say to you that yes bosch is more powerfull but for me i reach the Speed limit on my ep801 motor up the hills and on normal trails in echo anyway so for me the ep801 is a fine motor. Have owned a mondraker with the bosch motor and they did put a good motor on a shit bike. And all the Nice brands use the shimano motor so I stick to my yeti 160e with sixfinity link and anti squad (best suspension feeling of all ebikes) and even all tests say that. So if bosch started to put their motor on Nice bikes i would consider but for now the new ep801 is much more than i need 🍺🍻

For the price why couldn't the designer's make it the best of everything so there was no complaints or any other bikes on the market were better as a designer's I would of felt my product had failed if they said that about the design of the bike
