It would be great to see a series of UltraThin mechanical Cartier watches. They should also celebrate people like Carole Forestier and Hélène Poulit-Duquesne and shine a light on their watchmakers. I’m quoting Tim who also said the same thing about Breguet. This is where Patek and JLC get it right by celebrating those who do enameling or engraving. This was an excellent show - Tim says more in 30 seconds than many say in 30 minutes.

Thank you Tim for sharing the history of Cartier. I am surprised that the woman who developed Cartier movements, Carol Furstier(spelling?) went to Tag Heuer. I would have expected AP, Patek, or Vacheron to have hired her right away!

Thank you! And yes, we could have broken this out by model and era. There's too much with Cartier to cover even in this overly long episode, but I was happy to cover something a bit outside the mainstream of the YT watch channels. Best, Tim

Have owned and loved many Cartiers from the “jumbo” (😂) 29mm Panthere and tanks. But love my 38mm Santos XL which with 100m of water resistance is worn as a sports watch. For me, Cartier represents value as a luxury brand watch 👏🥃

After i made my first purchase dor a Cartier Santo WW0030,,, only than i realised they came a long way & the new models are super well made. The quick links removal is one of the best idea so far. Great show Tim. Thank for show my H.Moser wrist shot too! 😊

Tim calling it for what it is on the H situation. some of these Cartiers are a dream, but I never could get behind the price policy of Cartier. They seem to put an extra 20 - 40 & upmark on everything if you compare it to comparable pieces, and the "design" pretense of Cartier does not justify that for me.

The only Cartier watches worth buying are CPCP, most anything else is absolute garbage.

@the1916company Жыл бұрын
That's not true. The CPCP just get a lot of attention these days. Ten years ago, people talked about them and priced them like they were "absolute garbage." The quality of a watch is set from the day it's made, but perceptions change, and CPCP is benefitting from that now. I remember when Cartier had them on closeout and an aftermarket dealer wouldn't touch them without huge discounts.@@mr.personal-ity Best, Tim

Get a version of any given watch that's as close to the "core" look as possible. Oddly, it's not the special editions but the most orthodox and representative versions of a given model that become collectible. Special editions are only more desirable when there is no regular production version - think Crash or Pebble. Those only come along in small batches every couple of years, so all versions are coveted. Best, Tim

Good narrative on Cartier Tim. Thank you Shawn. I would take the Cartier dive watch over Rolex any and every day. In your opinion, which company has the best customer service these days? 🥃🥃🥃
@the1916company Жыл бұрын
Best customer service likely falls to the smallest brands. Josh Shapiro, Aren Bazerkanian (Havid Nagan), and Dan Royter - guys like that - will take care of any problems directly with no middle men. As for larger brands, I hear both horror stories and tales of triumph, so who knows. I've seen people claim that JLC destroyed or lost their watches, and then I had a full restoration done with JLC; it was done quick, it was done well, and the price was reasonable. Best, Tim

That Cartier diver was absolutely amazing! But its dial was needlessly busy. Too much printing, the three date display, sub-seconds, etc. Honestly, I think that’s what killed it as I’ve read these complaints elsewhere. Simplify the dial and I think it wouldn’t have been discontinued. But Cartier, along with Piaget, Chopard, Montblanc, etc. are absolutely perfect for us non-snob connoisseurs! I look at the product, not necessarily the fact that the brand produces other stuff too.

@@tstewart3034 either way, it was ultimately an unsuccessful design, otherwise they wouldn’t have discontinued it. And most complaints I’ve read were about were about how overly busy the dial was. Divy the semantics up however way you like.
