Hi Amy. What I did with my cats was to buy a couple scratch posts and put them either in front of where they scratch or near it and then I bought cat nip spray and sprayed the cat nip all over the scratch posts. This has worked for us and our 2 cats and they are inside cats. Also when you catch them scratching your furniture you pick them up and take them to the scratch post. You can spray an anti-cat spray when they do it. But you can also drape your throw blankets on the corners they’re scratching and it’ll deter them. Some fabrics are more appealing for cats. You can also get a scratching post and encourage that for them to scratch.

For the cats scratching try to get cat scratch pads or scratching poles/trees. Usually if they have something to scratch they won’t scratch your furniture.

I've been trying a few different things to keep my cat from clawing the furniture; double sided sticky tape on the back, I used to have covers over the couch but then you couldn't see the actual couch color. I also put my cat's scratching posts near the furniture so he'll scratch on that instaed.

My sister has two cats and she says she puts out scratching posts and also puts a clear sticky tape on her furniture that the cats don’t like to scratch on. The Hot Chicken Breast Fries are so delicious! They are one of my Sam's Club staples. Fun fact ~~ they are pretty hot (i.e., spicy) when you eat them right after they come out of the oven; however, if you let them sit on the baking sheet for a few minutes and then eat them they are less spicy. I am not sure why that is, but this has been my overall experience with them every single time. Also, the Zatarains Blackened Chicken Alfredo (comes in a 2 pack box) is another staple as well as the bags of Members Mark Buffalo-Style Boneless Chicken Bites. I also wanted to say that I loved watching you and Gracie June together. She is definitely a mini version of you and Caycen totally reminds me of Chance. It was awesome to see you just let GJ do her thing instead of stepping in and doing it the way that you would prefer. Kids need to learn to do things themselves and they never will if parents are always taking over. She might not do everything in the same manner that you would, but I am sure she will over time as she continues to get older. My sister (I love her dearly) is more of a "helicopter parent" and her daughters are now 31 and 22. I swear that my nieces don't know how to even do basic tasks like laundry or cleaning themselves.

Not sure if someone mentioned this yet, but put double sided tape on the areas of your couch that they scratch! You can’t see it, & they learn quickly that they don’t like it.. so they will end up stopping to even trying to scratch👍 They make some targeted towards cats, so just google “double sided tape cats” 😊

Costco! There are a couple of things Sam’s Club had they Costco doesn’t(member years ago), but Costco is superior, especially their Kirkland brand. And double lines between parking spots, so no door dings! And all employees are happy to be there, so that’s nice too!

I just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos! You’re always so productive and helpful and realistic. I love the schedules you shared I’ll have to print them for my girls and the chore charts too. One idea I saw on Instagram that I did was we made summer journals and the girls will journal every day if we can or anytime we do something they want to remember. They draw a picture and write out a little description of what we did. I’m hoping it will be a fun tradition for us for a few years at least.

Do you do the summer reading program at your local library? My kids did that over the summer and were able to ride their bikes to our library. They did the free activities, checked out books and turned in their reading progress for prizes. I’ve had cats my whole life. The best way to stop scratching on furniture is to provide them with a cat scratching post inside, and use a spray bottle of water , set to mist, and spray them when you catch them in the act, or are about to start. Good luck! It takes a while, but it does work.

They make plastic furniture protectors you place on the spots cats scratch. It’s saved all our furniture and you can’t tell they’re even in unless you’re super close. Also investing in a nice scratching post should deter them from other spots. One last thing, squirting the with a water bottle really helps them learn quickly the things they should do. It seems mean but it really doesn’t bother them. Now if my cat is in a place he shouldn’t be I can just show him the water bottle and he comes to me lol.

As far as the cats scratching go.. we have 5 cats all infoor only. Our cats use cardboard scratchers and stand alone sisal scratchers. If you dont have any, get some. Also, they sell tape for furniture to help prevent scratching. Good luck!

Amy, you can buy the clear sticky tape to put on the back of your couch. Cats do not like sticky things. They will stop scratching it. We did this when we bought a new couch and it worked for our cats.
