I’ve got LE marked 6920s and CR marked 6920s. I can honestly say the quality is consistent across the board. They’ve got the proper cage codes where they need to be and all the proper marks. There’s a lot of haters out there that have never owned a colt and have zero clue what they’re talking about.

I have a friend who works for Colt in Hartford. He told me the quality control has not changed at all, outsource the barrel from rosco and another company, i forgot which one he said. Those barrels are made to colts specifications and every barrel is inspected. The bcg is from microbest, and are also inspected by Colt as well. The small parts and the receivers are all Colt. The reason some don’t have the cage code, is because those were originally going to another company who buys Colt finished receivers. So really the only thing that’s not made by Colt are the barrel and bcg. They also stopped F marking the fsb because they no longer make carry handle C7 and A2 uppers, so they only use flat top compatible FSBs. They also don’t do the white dot on the bolt anymore, because those bolts with the white dot were the ones being shipped to the US government. Other than those things, Colt is still producing rifles to TDP spec. They’re every bit as good, if not better, than the older Colts. If you’re in the market for a properly marked Colt M4, these are not what you’re looking for. Those will cost you almost double the price. If you’re looking for a combat ready and proven rifle, you can’t go wrong with one of these Colts

@guymontag5084in fairness the barrel and BCG are the most important components of the gun by some margin. If they are outsourced what is the point in even calling it a Colt.

Nope not as good i.have white dot all c marked 6920le tcp.mitlary spec those were only colts thst were made for le mitlary only not new cell colts or ones u speck.of there a big difference in civilian made vs mitlsry made if all.psrts not marked c. Mp barrels there not truecolt parts the whole gun.has be colt defense to be tcp.all only a very few cr early ones bar code came same as tcp 6920le very few got out that's the diff as fir early colt lk.spl etc quality was great I have a windom weaponry a4 it's fit and finsh beats sll new colts or new fn there cheap made not ww there quality is sllsome but still.not pr say a tcp 6920le all.other try copy colts tcp.but none or same the real.pony is the only pony as for mitlary fn they won government contract had get rolls from colt for Sam to buy them use them still colt holes the true mitlary spec tcp all.others try copy even over priced dd not up par with colts tcp.none or I have all the high end guns and only colt defense tcp.mitlary ones orvresl.deal

Colt was my entry to firearms. Still love em till this day. I just bought an OEM1 version, and that does have M4 Carbine markings.

I bought a 6940 recently, mainly due to it’s unique monolithic upper receiver and Chris’ recommendation at SMS. Very happy with it. Always wanted a Colt for nostalgic reasons also. I drove by the Colt factory with the blue dome many times while living in Ct.

I bought one for nostalgia back in 2016. I could hit a man sized silhouette from 500 yards away using iron sights with as a 2x expert Marine rifleman. That was good enough for me. My other rifles are prettier with all the modern gear but my colt M4 will always be my favorite. This thing has dropped more terries than all the others I bet.

The double 'S' marks on the hammer indicate that the trigger group and selector switch are made by Schmid Tool & Engineering, which is the CAGE coded vendor for all military M4 and M16 trigger groups, and have been for years. FN uses them in both their military M4 carbines and the commercial M4 collector series. Geissele also uses them in their ALG/QMS trigger line. A small 'S' in a box should also be visible on your selector/safety switch. Decentralized manufacturing with tear one vendors, specializing in specific parts, is a normal manufacturing standard.

People love to hate on Colt is what I have learned over the years, lol, the funny thing is when you actually look at everything they still look like a regular old Colt, such as the anodizing, Colt’s anodizing just looks different from most manufacturers and always have when you actually look at them, and even Misha said they still smell the same, lol, I say they’re still just as good as they ever was from a shooters standpoint, and considering what you are getting at the price point there at in my opinion about the best AR 15 on the market, sure there are more Gucci AR 15s out there but for their price point, you really can’t beat them, especially considering the fact that they really are built about as good as anyone can build them, they make good shooters. They generally hold around an inch and a half MOA and they’re good for roughly around 20,000 rounds, my opinion the only real way to beat one of them is to go with a Daniel defense, but you can buy 2 Colt’s for the price of one of them, so yeah for the price point you really can’t be a good old Colt, lol, great video👍👍

this is how it's been for decades. I've been hearing that my Colt LE6920 from 2015 was absolute dog sh!t because it was made after Colt lost their government contract in 2013. Now I'm being told to never sell my 2015 6920 because the new CR6920s are utter dogshit because it was found out colt outsources some parts (which they've done sine the 1960s). And before that we were told that the 6920's sold during the War on terror were dog shit because Colt was putting out blems and rejects for civilians while keeping the good ones for military contracts. People have hated on colt since the 80s.... Colt haters are more salty than PSA haters (and with less reason to do so)

I think part of the problem is that Colt doesn't do enough PR. They don't say anything when they change things which leads to lots of conjecture. They've always been that way. I have 8 colt AR15's. The oldest being an SP1 and the newest an M4A1 SOCOM which has the CR prefix . Every Colt AR I own has been rock solid reliable.

I just bought a new CR6940 on the basis that they were unavailable for a reasonable price as the LE6940. The rifle I received is tight and right. All of the proper markings on the BCG and bolt are there and the upper has the 'C' on the right side and the hammer is 'S' 's' marked. the barrel is properly cage coded and marked. I am very happy with getting the rifle for under $1400, all in and done, in my hands....which was just a few days ago and this week will be its first range trip.

Excellent video sir ..I picked up a socom yesterday and ill be honest I've been a Windham Bushmaster guy but the colt M4A1 SOCOM has won me over to Colt especially since every part in my rifle except for 2 parts were cage coded and it had all the m p markings too.. I have plans to add more coits to my arsenal.

the Socom edition with the 14.5 inch barrel is by far the best deal going on for the colt's right now. Especially with the KAC rails and all the goodies thrown in.

I just bought a Colt cr6920 and haven't got to sight it in yet. just got the furniture on it and going to the range this weekend. put a at3 prism on it. lol both my Dad and stepfather use to say this is how it is son (God created man and Colt made them equal.) great vid by the way

Id rather have a BCM standard M4. If it was an 05 LE6920, there'd be no question. The current guns have parts that are outsourced. The premium money for an in house built M4 was not a problem. They don't even have M4 lasered into the receiver.

The '2013 configuration' is when Colt no longer sold the 6920 with the removable carry handle or the side mounted front sling swivel. The front sling swivel was moved back down under the barrel like on previous generations. The side mount is to accommodate the M203 grenade launcher.

Is polymer the best handguard for heat resistance? Sometimes I think it's plastic, but I never fired plastic or polymer. I only have a mlok rail and a quad rail.

I just called Colt customer service to date two AR's I had purchased recently. I asked the rep how things were going after CZ bought Colt. He told me that CZ got Colt out of bankruptcy, but that the factory, the people, & the firearms were still the same.

I got a colt m4a1 model a little over a year ago, and unfortunately the castle nut was only staked in one spot. Went ahead and staked it myself in the other spot, still bummed it didn’t come from the factory staked though.

If you look at the forward end of th rail, it's hard to see because of the hand guard, you will see "M4" on it.

Colt is still making their rifles to pass mil spec TDP tolerances..Every part is made by DOD approved venders if not made in house..Colt has always used subcontractors for parts, nothing new..Colts laboratory is still checking parts to make sure the parts are made correctly with the proper metals. All Colt bolts and barrels are magnetic particle pressure tested..Every Colt I have gauged has been spot on..A lot of misinformation being spread about Colt..

I've only been hearing that Colt's quality control has been going to shit for about ten plus years now. Yeah, I don't buy it. They aren't the most pretty guns around, but they run really damn well and really aren't as expensive as people make them out to be.

However, the new guns lack a lot of the stamps & Colt markings which made Colt rifles so desirable to collectors, so in that way they are inferior. No one really likes the laser etched receiver markings, compared to the old mechanically-rolled markings, but that is the way most guns are now being manufactured. Progress sometimes sucks.

My criticisms aren't at all with the quality. I'm still 100% confident in the quality and performance in new production Colts. My issue is the lack of markings. I bought an M4A1 SOCOM because I wanted an identical copy of the M4 I'm issued. Yet the barrel, fsb, upper receiver, bolt assembly, NONE of the parts are marked the same way. It doesn't have that Colt signature personality. It's just another AR15 decorated as my military M4. Again, I know the quality and performance is there. But I wasn't concerned with that when I bought it. I don't shoot it. Yes, it's a safe queen. It's not the rifle I train with and put thousands of rounds per year through. This one is sentimental. But I'm really disappointed with it. It may have the Hartford Horsey, but none of the proof marks it should have.

if you've followed colt for a while you'll find that colt NEVER is consistent with markings. literlaly year to year the markings can changed. It's been a running joke for like 30+ years that Colt is like a box of chocolates, you'll never know what marking you're going to get.

it appears that that barrel is nitride finished not caromed lined ive owned to a2 models they where good to be honest I've got a psa with a nitride barrel life time warranty and a aero ar15a4 both cost far less than a colt work just as well

That Slim handguard is the only Magpul part I don't like. Its just hard to remove and install.

All of my Colts got the KAC rails and Matech sights. 2 Block 1s and M16 A4. I want another for Block 2. Thoroughbred Armament has one with a RIS 2 FSP rail and it is marked M4 Carbine in the picture on their website. If I cant do that I may get a Daniel Defense M4A1 with the rail. I dont need a perfect clone just quality AR with the rail. The Colts seem to be gassed a little better to me.

the Block 2's are probably the most PRACTICAL of the M4a1 setups, but the Block 1 is still my favorite. Mine is more of a "Block 1.5" with a regular block 1 loadout (minus the PEQ 15 and the giant incandescent outdated light) just with a Sopmod stock and Comp M4 instead of the Comp M2 used.... one of my favorite rifles

The fact that we even need to have this conversation is a testament to how far Colt has fallen as a company. Hubris and decades of mismanagement are the reasons Colt is a shell of the manufacturing powerhouse it use to be.

I’ll put either of my M&P 15s up against that colt for accuracy and reliability and you can get them for 700$ every 3 months when rual king has a sale! What made a colt worth the money for me was the fact they made all the parts in house and they were the exact rifle issued to our service members! If they are outsourcing parts then why pay that much more money? I don’t care who QCs the rifle as long as I’m getting the same life and accuracy out of it! And after shooting my Ruger MPR 18” with a two stage trigger and rifle length gas system I have to say I like that rifle better than either one and I got that rifle with Magpul furniture for $850 so the appeal the colt had is gone for me. Not saying it’s a bad gun just that it’s not worth 300+ more dollars than my other rifles in my opinion.

What is the resale value of a used M&P AR? I've seen them for $450 in my local Gun Shops. I've never seen a Colt loose value like that.

Assuming you actually shoot them!😂 If your seeing M&P 15’s for $450 then damn because I just picked up another one for $550 new at rural King 3 months ago. But you always loose money when selling a used firearm! Besides I don’t sell guns I only buy them if I’m selling a gun it’s because it’s trash and won’t run reliably and I’m using the money towards something better. Sure a full auto colt or any full auto holds its value for obvious reasons but a basic AR-15 is never worth anywhere near what you paid for it! And what you’re gonna get for any used gun depends on the condition and the economy at the time. But like I said I’ll put money on a friendly competition for groups and reliability and I’m confident the M&P will match the accuracy and reliability of the colt at least the ones I own will. But hey if you feel like your getting 350-500 dollars worth of added value from the colt do your thing. I don’t!

Post 2012 CR/LE models are hit or miss... Sometimes the parts are milspec TDP compliant, sometimes they're not. Sometimes its complete, sometimes its a few parts, sometimes its none. Pre2011 produced systems are 100% military TDP compliant built in-house by colt defense. And... Colt had the "tick" on the right side of the fire control pin... But NOT marked "safe/fire" until post 2013. So just that tells me its an outsourced trigger group. Not true milspec. They run a few hundred in-house complete rifles/carbines per year now. The rest of the thousands are outsourced parts. Just the barrel being outsourced is a red flag for the price. Colt marking something not colt is.... NOT Colt. Save your money and buy a Rock River, or a DPMS... Same quality standards. I'll hold on to my true LE6920.

@@cjsteele9594 Ummm... No. Colt lost the rights to their TDPs in 2012, when they lost the sole-source DOD contract to FN. They are federally restricted from selling true milspec firearms on the commercial market, as the US Department of Defense now owns it. They are still supplying M4 carbines to the DoD, and both Colt and FN just got a huge order for new M4A1's. But those are all built in-house by contract. Barrels, bolts, fire control groups, pins and flash hiders. And oddly enough.... The front sight posts are still marked F in military contracted firearms. You cannot buy those any longer. Colt Defense has completely separated manufacturing from Colt Firearms.

@@cjsteele9594 Now, yes. Pre 2012 Colt was completely inhouse. The forgings were outsourced, but all machine work was done by Colt. That's why they are so sought after. If it doesn't have the C cage code on every part, it's not manufactured to true DoD TDP specs. This is all available in FOIA documents. Hell, pre 2009 (ish) Colts had the larger FCG pins because the ATF didn't want any DoD full-auto/burst trigger group compatibility with commercial firearms. Hence why the "small pin", full TDP Colt 6920/6921/6940/6941 had the "notch" in the hammer. I'm sorry if you think you're firearm is an actual TDP compliant Colt.. but it's easy to tell... And there is a difference. You cannot get a full milspec TDP compliant firearm from Colt after 2012. By federal law, you just can't.

I have three new Colts and they are fantastic. They just feel different from my Ruger or Smith and Wesson and about the same as my Windham Weaponry. The Smith and Wesson is surprisingly nice though, the finish actually seems nicer somehow but the barrel is not as good. However, my latest 6920 that I got a few weeks ago is great except for the bcg has a small spot by the gas vents that doesn't have finish on it. When I checked it out I thought it was just grease but when I got it home and went to clean it I realized it was unfinished or finish is damaged. I contacted Patricia at Colt and sent pictures hoping to get a new bcg maybe, but they wanted me to send the whole gun back. I decided not to do that, and I just bought a new Microbest bcg from Ar15 Discounts, who are excellent by the way. Brownells has Colt bcgs marked with the C for $209 but I just got the Microbest. The other two are perfect, but only one has the cage code on the upper receiver. Maybe I was hoping for too much for them to send me a new bcg. I had a much better experience with Ruger and PSA customer service though the Colt lady was pretty slow to get back with me and after I said I didn't want to send the whole rifle back she never responded to me again. I would just rather get another bcg than do all that. The newest Colt does work, they should have caught it, but I didn't either. For the most part, they are excellent to me, and I want another one for a Block 2 build I want to do. From what I hear Colts have never been beauty queens but wonderful shooters. I think they are beautiful and I'm very pleased. I want one marked M4 Carbine if that's how the new ones are marked.

To my knowledge, the only new CR series marked "M4 Cabrine" is the colt trooper. More than likely, they wanted the whole rifle to do proper testing and function if they replaced it. But who knows.

@TheMilsurpMan I like the trooper. Grab a Gun had em for $1088 last week probably still do.I almost ordered one. I know that's what they wanted it's the proper thing I'm sure. I just didn't want to send it in and wait for just that.

Yea! Colt customer service still bad after CZ took over ....not a surprise.....since they had trouble/problems with the reintroduction of their double action revolvers such as Python , Cobra and Anaconda.... one day they will learn not to take customers for granted....👎

@michaelbarfield528 when my Ruger AR556 MPR had a very small tear in the MLOK handguard right below the top pic rail, I contacted Ruger, sent pics and they sent one right out. PSA sold me an upper with a crooked gas tube, and they were calling me within an hour after I emailed them. They were all over it, and I was surprised. I know a bcg is a little different, but honestly, I was hoping they would just send me another one. The new Colt bcgs with etched C that's just basically a Microbest are not cheap. I just ordered a Microbest for $100. The lady wasn't very interested and just blew me off, basically. She just seemed annoyed. They could definitely see the issue, and I would have been ecstatic if they had replaced it without me having to send the rifle back. That process usually takes about a month in my experience and is a hassle. Maybe it's unreasonable, but I was hoping they would send me a new one. I still bought another Colt after that though and it's beautiful. I wouldn't say it's terrible customer service for that one experience but I've had much better.

@@christurner8255 I am glad you were able to rectify the problem yet as I noted Colt has had a customer service problem for "years" and still they refuse to acknowledge it exists.... just check out other you tube channels with regards to Colt Python issues such as finish and barrels, or Springfield Armory and their Prodigy's issues (Yikes!) on you tube everywhere and yet Springfield Armory still sold these pistols with problems, yet their customer service still recognized the issues and repaired most of them according to various you tube channels experiencing these Prodigy issues and the issues were many...Ruger has problems with their SFAR yet they continue to give customer service for that rifle....All told customer service is important especially in the firearms industry and if a firearms manufacturer has lousy customer service, take your dollars else where...others such as PSA , Ruger, Mossberg and Glock as well as Springfield Armory have good customer service for the most part so I consider them a good firearms business worthy of your hard earned money ... especially nowadays! So buyer beware!👍

Not the point of the video. But the unit cost of a m4 is cheaper for the military due to having rifles ordered in large quantity.

Some of the best ARs have outsourced parts… BCM comes to mind. People just parrot stupid crap they hear from people that don’t know a rifle from their ass.
