The 2023 Ducati Diavel V4 offers all the thrills that you'd expect from a 168hp V4 engine but wrapped in a beautiful, muscular yet comfortable package. It is described as a cruiser, but the riding position and experience are anything but. So what is the Diavel 4 like to ride and live with? It is a motorcycle that I never really thought would be for me, but after spending a couple of weeks on the Ducati, has it changed my mind?

I've had my Devil V4 for a year now, and only 6k miles later, but that mileage has told me this is my 10th and final bike, been riding 30 years. This bike is unlike any of the other nine I have had, and i mean unlike any of them, and I have straddled a Goldwing (GW) for 7 years. This bike smokes the GW, Indian, Suzuki, Harley, Triumph I have had by leaps and bounds, for me folks, for me. I do have the Akrapovic exhaust, which by the way was made specifically for this bike, and that exhaust is a thing of beauty, not to mention she is flashed as well. The damn Italians hit the nail on the head with this machine, and I am proud to say I own one; keep the shiny side up.

Similar here, 25 years of riding the Diavel V4 is my 6th bike and I’m going to have this one for the long haul. I love it! Been riding nothing but 1000cc sport bikes for 25 years. Last bike was a 235whp H2 SXSE. Awesome machine but the Diavel is just much more fun and enjoyable to ride!

85 per cent of peak torque at 3,000 rpm. Wow! 36,000 miles between valve checks. Blimey! The price. Hmmm. The review. Superb. Nick J

I rode mine which I bought from Alton Ducati around Europe for 4 weeks, covered 4,300 miles. So yes, you can tour like Thor. A couple of observations, the panniers are stylish but buy sealable dry bags because they attract water, even with the covers on. Oh and riding in the rain to the village of Geddes in Provence with that back rear tyre was tricky slippery fun.

I did consider one of these, love the look and feel of the engine but decided I didn't want/need that level of performance and ended up with an Indian Chief Sport. The Diavel felt 80% sport to 20% cruiser and the Chief Sport the opposite

Not ridden one Tony but it’s certainly. Hanged or morphed from a muscle cruiser to more like just a naked bike. It’s a little confusing where this bike sits now. Also as with something like the Triumph Rocket 3R that’s a strange morph too from the earlier Rockets. I’m all for more comfy upright positions on bikes at our age 😂👍 Cheers

Hiya, Ducati still call it a muscle cruiser, but for me it’s quite different from what I would class as a cruiser. I like that it can’t be pigeonholed, it’s too easy to put labels on bikes these days

Thanks Tony for your review. I’d go the Multistrada for that money. I’d prefer the versatility of having 4 roads in 1. Cheers🤙

I have to say I agree, if I had the funds to make this a second bike alongside an adventure bike, then it would definitely be in the garage.

Thanks Tony for the very best review of the Diavel V4 I have seen to date ! I have owned my Diavel for over one year now (4300km) and I am very pleased of it, but I think it is fair to flag 2 criticisms: - Its suspension is definitely less comfortable than the Multistrada V4S’ (probably because it is not “piloted”), so riding on bumpy road is unpleasant. - Ducati could have made it more pleasant to ride below 3000t/mn (like a BMW GS... possibly if they had not cut the injection of the rear cylinders below 4000t/mn). Apart from that, and even compared with my previous Ducatis (Multistrada V2, Streetfighter V4S, Multistrada V4S), it is the perfect bike **! ** Perfect bike for me! (young rider still passionate after 50 years of motorbike riding!)

Thanks for the review! Your sound and video quality are outstanding. I test rode this bike and found my legs cramped due to the low seat height. Also, the quick shifter wasn’t as slick shifting as the Streetfighter V4S. Did you have issues with either concern? I wanted to love this bike, but came away only liking it.

Thank you, with a 32 inch inside leg I didnt have a problem with feeling cramped. I've not ridden the Streetfighter yet, so i can't offer a comparison

HI Tony, looks great, sounds and goes great. Real food for thought, pity about the price tag, but you get what you pay for these days. Off to Ozzie for a few months riding but looking for something new when I get back, maybe this could be the one, the last one!

Succinct and apt review. Seems like a superb machine. I'm rather suspicious of the two rear cylinders cutting out to 'save fuel'. And don't you think the 4 tail pipes just that little bit pretentious. What about a plain old titanium Akrapovic?

What do you think to the Monster. I had a test ride on one with the Termi can . Way too loud for me. Also always between gears in town traffic. I probably preferred the Yam XSR900, trouble is they are not very practical. What would be your fav 900 cc practical bike be?
@mancavemoto

So does the quick shifter mean you don’t use the clutch? Is it the same as a dual clutch transmission?
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 2 ай бұрын
You don’t need the clutch shifting from 1st upwards or 6th down, but you still require it to pull away. Different to a DCT

Do you think this bike could replace my BMW GSA 1250 R 2023? I use it for everyday commute but also for 4 to 6 hours weekend ride, but most importers, for summer trips over 3000+ km over 10 days. The first two usages I’m pretty sure the Diavel V4 can do, maybe even better than my bike, but my question is more about the long touring trips. Thanks
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 3 күн бұрын
Its obviously quite a different machine. It can handle the longer trips, but luggage options would be limited, I don't think it would be anywhere near as comfortable either

@@mancavemoto To be honest very never felt any need for any more power, especially with the torque of a twin, the price of a V4 Multi, GS etc. is getting close to a decent car sadly, one of the reasons for the popularity of the Tiger etc., especially with the new upgrades. The ‘mid range’ adventure bike is the future for most riders and hybrids like the new GX Suzuki..
