2023 Fiat 500e Convertible Review: A brilliant soft-top EV!

The Fiat 500e Convertible is a rare thing indeed: a fully electric car that you can buy as a convertible. Not only that, but it's been executed to perfection, providing all the style and charm you'd expect in a soft-top Fiat, only this time combined with a smooth electric powertrain.
In this CarGurus UK review, Chris Knapman not only weighs up how the Fiat performs, but examines how the market for convertible cars has halved in the past two decades, and what its future might look like now that electric SUVs are so popular.
As for the Fiat, with its WLTP range of 188 miles (think more like 150-160 miles in real world driving conditions), and a fabric roof that slides back at the touch of a button, it presents a unique offering in the UK car market. Not only that, but where many cabrios put form before function, the 500 still offers four seats and a small but useful boot. Throw in the fact that it's great to drive, and there's an awful lot to like about Fiat's offering, prices for which start at £34,000.
Fiat only offers its bigger 42kWh battery in the 500 Convertible, which can be charged at up to 85kW. That means you can expect a 0-80% charge via a rapid charger to take around 35 minutes. As far as performance goes, the 117bhp motor will get you from 0-62mph in 9 seconds, although in reality the 500's quick responses make it feel a bit faster than that.

We had the ICE version a few years ago as a hire car and I can't explain how much fun it was. Fast? No. Loud? Yes. Hilarious? 100%! I was apprehensive about using it as a hire car but after two weeks travelling about Europe we were gutted to hand the keys back.

At 6` I was surprised with its space and seat comfort. I'd buy one for its fun & city manourvability. I'd prefer no back seat, but rather a platform with a couple of lockboxes, as I have dogs. I'd also like to see electric memory seats linked to the fobs (as found in our honda CRV) as my wife & I are not the same height. Cheers from NZ.

Also worth noting... of ALLLLLL the convertibles out there the Fiat is the BEST combination of comfort and price. I test drove every convertible available in USA under 75K. None of them came close to the comfort of the Fiat. Even the Mazda Miata is so low and tight fit that it would not be a comfortable choice for daily driver, Mustang and Corvette are also uncomfortable. Add to that the typical EV is uggggggly and none of them come in convertible. Fiat 500 Electric...convertible... game changer.

I just seen a 500e parked beside a 2000s Nissan Almera , and the Almera was smaller... That's not good

@@duraeble2 Inflated cars make better profits for shareholders. More profits means more price hikes throughout the entire competition, industry and market Inflation reduces the value of profit margins, and so the boulder tumbles...
