2020 Seat Mii Electric: No such thing as a cheap electric car? Think again.

The Seat Mii has always been an appealing offering in city car circles, but these days, if you want a brand new one, it's only offered in all-electric form. But has that dented its appeal? Not one little bit, as Rebecca Jackson finds out in this CarGurus UK review.
Written review: www.cargurus.co.uk/research/S...
Pros
Impressively practical for such a small car
Low running costs for both petrol and electric versions
Excellent value for money
Cons
Misses out on more powerful engine that VW Up sister car gets
More expensive than a Skoda Citigo
Interior a little utilitarian
The CarGurus verdict
The Seat Mii has been overshadowed by the Skoda Citigo and VW Up for most of its existence, with the Skoda the cheaper option, the VW the posher option and the Seat a bit lost somewhere in the middle. That doesn't prevent it from being a seriously impressive small car, though. In the case of the later Mii Electric, it's a thoroughly recommendable and fun little EV. It lacks the plush finish and style appeal of the Fiat 500e that we’d rate as our favourite small electric car, but it’s still one of the best options for anyone after a budget pure electric car.
A used petrol Seat Mii is equally recommendable. It’s perfectly suited to town driving yet feels stable enough for confident use on the open road, and it’s also practical, reliable and cute. As budget runabouts go, the Seat is one of the best.

I think you are too harsh on your range estimate. If you drive EVs gently and still at speeds to match traffic you will exceed 160 miles in the Mii. Summer much more and winter less I grant you. I’ve averaged 5 miles/kW over 4 months.

A nice reasonable cheap city car if ones a two car family. It’s not a head turner rather bland looking but for most city run around that won’t poison our kids whilst parked up waiting for school to come out it’s a winner. What’s better is a couple of years down the road it’ll be even better value.

Good review of an interesting car. The price advantage over cars such as the Honda E is certainly worth considering.

20k is still far too much for such a small car, I would have thought 12-14k would be more realistic if they want to encourage people to buy them

You would think in 2020 every car would have at the bare minimum projector halogen lights and not the poor reflector halogens seen here for safety reasons. The rest is very nice.

The question is, what kind of a car can you get, if you go for a petrol car and maybe a 3 year old? How about a Skoda Karoq SUV?

A Doddle was a small city car made by Austin-Morris in the 1970s. It had 3 gears, averaged 12 miles per gallon and the top of the range trim had windows and seatbelts.

My opinion is the 7kw home charging is not available for most people, without 3 phase electricity. The lack of cooling may limit the fast charging to 11kw. So you may find 3.6kw and 20kw average slow and less than manufacturer maximum figures.
@bloodynorahvan2203
@bloodynorahvan2203 Жыл бұрын
You don’t need 3 phase for 7kw. You would need it for 11kw or 22kw. But since this car only supports 7kw AC you’d be fine. Obviously it will also charge much more quickly on public DC chargers
@sgsuper1150
@sgsuper1150 7 ай бұрын
@@bloodynorahvan2203Yes you do need 3phase for 7kw charging AC.A fault with this car is no 7kw charging on single phase. If a public charger is used it does not charge at 22kw type 2 either.
@SusieSmart
@SusieSmart 4 ай бұрын
@@sgsuper1150it’s a well known issue that is resolved via a free software update. The original software would only use one of the two 3.6kW on board chargers when using a single phase supply but the updated software detects the single phase supply and activates both charging units in the car giving 7kW. On a 3 phase 22kW unit with a single phase cable it’ll do the same as 22kW AC units can provide 32A per phase so it’ll be the same as using a single phase 32A charger.

This might be a cheap *electric* car but it is not a "cheap* car. Put the petrol engine back in and this would be selling for £10k. People buy small cars because they want to get from A to B and they are on modest incomes. I bought a SEAT Mii in 2012 but my next car isn't going to be this one, i'll get a Kia Picanto and save myself ten grand.
@gwarlow

And the ten grand you save will mean more money spent by the NHS (taxpayers) as they treat people suffering from various breathing ailments that are exacerbated by polluted air. It's a win-win!

I fail to understand why there are 3 different brands of VW. Plus the added expense of making them to drive on the wrong side of the road, when 90% of the globe drives on the right side of the road.🤔🙄
