Picked up my Platinum Everest a couple of weeks ago after a 7 month wait. I was originally going to order the Landcruiser 300, but the disappointing legroom for my 6'4" frame made me look elsewhere. I took a punt the new Everest would have more leg room for me and the second row behind, and I was right! I came from Mercedes GLC250 and wanted something more powerful and better off road, so I ordered the Platinum with the off road pack which includes 18" wheels, all terrain tyres and steel underbody protection. Hi Paul, Great review. I bought exactly that model (2024 build) and in Equinox Bronze. From getting out of my 2020 Fortuner Crusade, this thing absolutely blows the Toyota out of the park. And agree, keep a spare set of off-road wheels & tyres if you are going to use it periodically in the bush or go for the option of 18's with off-road rubber. Lastly, can't stress enough, ONLY buy with the factory tow pack installed with the built-in controller.

Here's the important facts - similarly specced Toyota Prado Kakadu versus Ford Everest Platinum (which actually does have more features) - Prado $95k - Everest $85k. Engine output Prado 150kw & 500nm - Everest 184kw & 600nm. Tow capacity Prado 3 tonne - Everest 3.5 and what task are these two vehicles typically used for? Towing a large caravan, boat or trailer. Loved my Prado which I just sold because I prefer a lesser priced vehicle that will do the same job better, easier and safer. I wouldn't pull a caravan even close to the 3t of the Toyota which strictly limits van choice. Just my thoughts because I dont care it doesn't have a shark fin aerial or has words inscribed in the headlights ....

I have had my new Everest Platinum for nearly 5 weeks now and have fitted it with ARB Old Man Emu suspension, bull bar, snorkel and 2nd battery. I have recently taken it from Adelaide to the Flinders Ranges and Pt Lincoln. The new Everest is brilliant. I have taken it on some pretty rough tracks in both areas and it performed beautifully. I would like to get BFG tyres but, at the moment, I can't get legal After Market wheel and tyre alternatives that don't protrude past the mud guards, as the 18" wheels and tyre sizes are specific to the new Everest. I have been told it will be early next year before they are available. Apart from that, it is a pleasure to drive. My previous 4x4 was the Everest Trend.

A good review Paul. I have owned 4 Prados since 2005 and enjoyed trouble free motoring. with all of them I travelled over 100 000km of rough gravel roads with my last Prado 3.0l TX diesel which now reads 220,000km's without problems. I really love the shape, styling and technology of the new Everest Platinum and had to great difficulty to choose between the two. The only concern I have is its reliability, service footprint and resale value of Ford. I decided to stick with what gives me the best peace of mind and opt for the slightly more expensive Prado 2.8GD VXL despite sharing the view that the Prado is ageing. In South Africa it maintains an excellent resale value because of its dependability, unlike the Ford which seems to be problematic after 150 000km's. I am nevertheless keen to see how the Everest will perform in the segment. An opportunity for a long term test review Paul?

Good review as always Paul, but as a keen 4wd’er and camper trailer towing family, a major point you’re missing in all these Ute-based 4wd reviews is discussing payload. Sure this has a hefty V6 that will tow 3.5t comfortably but when the payload (GVM less kerb weight) is only 649kg for this model, chuck a 3.5t van on the back and suddenly your usable payload (considering 10% of the trailer mass is tow ball weight) is down to just 299kg. Let’s say like most campers, you’re running a bullbar, towbar, roof rack and aggressive all terrain tyre’s that will at a minimum chop into 150 kg of your remaining payload, leaving just 149kg for passengers and luggage. Now for arguments sake, most people won’t tow the full 3.5t and will likely sit somewhere between 2.5t and 3.0t, still based off the above figures, at best you’re looking at just 200kg for passengers and luggage that will be chewed up quickly with 2 adults and a couple of kids and luggage. It might surprise you that the Prado and MU-X sit in similar camps while the 4cyl Everest Trend and Pajero Sport are up above 700kg. This is just a point that no journalist ever mentions and is a point worth noting considering the majority of families wanting to get into caravanning simply just look at the engine specs and see 3.5t towing capabilities and think that’s all that needs to be considered.

Tools and jack can be removed, but access to the wind release could be a little challenging to put it mildly. Thanks, Paul. Just love it. Your review just proves why. My only criticism is the all-so-somber black interior. In the previous gen, you could get a brown color, think they called it "Coganau", which looks and feel much more up-market. Two tones will look so much better. On the next test, could you open the glass roof, to see how easy or difficult it is to stand half-body above for a photo shot of that Lion charging towards you for lunch? Keep up the good reviews mate. We all enjoy it.

I would say the rubber cushion pot inside the bonnet can resolve the issue of not align with the fender.

Additionally most of the system response lagging are caused of ‘AI learning’ which means we as a owner needs to give some time for the infotainment to learning our interact habits.

Hi Paul, I am big Fan. I was just wondering like you included windows sliding test, if you can also include Sunroof/Moonroof slide opening test. if the car has the feature. Thanks.

I noticed when doing the drag tests the transmission changes gear way before the engine reaches redline. Changes happen at around 3.5K RPM. Seems a bit early.

I was wondering why compare it to the Prado? Is it this particular price point? As I know the Everest is based on the Ranger and the Ranger is compared to the Hilux....
@willoughby402 жыл бұрын
Exactly.
@CarExpertAus2 жыл бұрын
Because people cross shop the two and it has the same features as Prado. People don’t buy in segments, they buy on price, space and capability.

Why do they not put the rear wiper on the top instead of on the bottom. The spare wheel is also in a difficult place under the boot - no other options for it?

Ford have got it right with this car. The previous versions were not desirable to me. This though looks really good!

Iv got the everest sport coming end of November went for a test drive the other wkn in one was great. Will be a good family car. But why will no one address the adblue tank it is in a bad spot with no bash plate. If you won't to take it on some hard tracks I would be very careful .

Is the current 4x4 Everest registered as a MC classified (4x4) vehicle? Don’t think you can put legal lifts / tires on them if they have the standard MA….

A great review, very non biased. I own and drive a new Prado, it does have its flaws. However i cant find myself buying a ford anytime soon. Ford isnt really known for its reliabilty and with quite a few issues with the new fords trickling through it is slight cause for concern with me. If you like a Ford buy one, but for me i know what i am going to get with a Toyota.

Phenomenal SUV 👌🏾 thoroughly impressive allround. The performance and it's weight looks to be on par with the LR Disco 4 SDV6. I love it ❤️
@johnoneill10112 жыл бұрын
Hopefully the Everest crankshaft is a lot less likely to snap than in the Disco. Happened to us overtaking on a flat road 600Km from nearest tow truck at 100,000Km and 3 months out of warranty. JLR replaced the motor (>$25k), as they have had to do for hundreds of other owners globally.
@BW-nd5uc2 жыл бұрын
This crank issue has been mentioned elsewhere, I think in the Ranger V6 review’s comments section. Had no idea this was a thing, seems really bad yet was not in the news much?

I hope while I'm waiting for my platinum, that ford increase the info screen speed. Also the black silhouette surrounding the top-down camera in the info-screen could be more cleaner, just saying!

The Platinum V6 is sadly not available here in the Philippines. We only get the Titanium trim with the 2.0 engine as the top trim. But it's for a good reason though as the V6 would be too expensive for the SE Asian region.
@Suroyfamilia2 жыл бұрын
Not just expense but the Philippine market does not really tow much if anything so the V6 is not needed.

It frustrates me that in this day and age and with the processing power microchips have, that they didn’t put a chip in that powers the centre screen smoothly. For 80k and considering it’s the centrepiece of the car, I would expect it to run smooth. Where else did they cut corners if they can’t even do that?
@MarthaMansbridge Жыл бұрын
It’s endlessly frustrating that these cars aren’t sold in the U.K.! The only similar cars we have is the Ssangyong Rexton and the Toyota Landcruiser (Prado to everyone else) and that’s around 50% more costly than the Rexton.
