2023 GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship Format

They didn't clarify how they'll pick the lowest ranked 3rd place team in the Tailteann groups to be replaced by New York. Is it based on points/score/league position?

Whenever they say ranked they are referring to league position.

Why does New York not play in the group stage?

Because they'll get steamrolled, and to have them travel less

Because the costs of travel (1 home and 2 away games) make it inconvenient for the GAA. Since last year they now get at least 2 games, 1 home game in Connacht and 1 away game in Tailteann cup so that's an improvement

Lads for the love of god WHY??! I know ye want more games to give counties more chances to play (and handily make yourselves more money from gate receipts) but the entire competition is just diluted by doing stuff like this (two cups? - the whole point of the championship is to win Sam). The previous format gave counties a second chance at progressing while also maintaining the integrity of a cup competition. And playing championship games in April??! Come on, ye are ruining something that people have enjoyed for decades! As a country we practically marked out calendars by the stages in the championship. Summer ended with the All Ireland final in September. Now the whole thing is done by July? Between this and the mess thats been made of competitions in the rugby its getting harder to follow whats going on in these competitions and ultimately to care!
