This is so helpful. As someone who is just getting started and wanting to do a lot of hip hop mixing this is huge. Especially when most beginner tutorials are using house music/ techno. Thank you!

Nah, man. These techniques suck. Rockstar changed bpm 6+%. + no harmonic mixing. Shit.

Tap In... GOD. he echo out previous track to mix tap in. Wtf? Echo out? Really? Echo out sucks, bro. Just it only with different bpm and jenres. In this case he could just use drop mixing.

This channel. And this video specifically has helped me a lot in my first year of DJing. This is one of the first videos I saw when I first got my DJ gear a little over a year ago. I keep returning to the beginner videos I already watched to see how I've progressed. I find I worry way too much about key, mainly because I like to scratch in my intro with the fader up and the eqs lowered. You did that a few times but you did more fade ins. I just wonder if I should build on my style of scratching in most intros, or if I am being annoying by doing it too much. In the beginning. In my mind I was thinking that was a good way to kinda let the crowd know a new song is coming in. Sometimes it works fantastic, sometimes not so much. But because I tend to do that, I worry a lot more about what key my song is in, and sometimes it affects my song selection when really I could just quickly fade in or do a hard drop on the next song. As a rookie at first, I felt like slamming the next song in was too easy lol. I gotta stop over thinking this stuff. I'm a music fanatic, why I got into DJing. Before DJing I hosted and still host karaoke nights and if there are no singers I played music (but not from DJ gear) and people telling me how good I was at picking songs was the reason I got into DJing. But all the extra information makes me want to follow a formula that often doesn't leave me picking the same songs I used to pick organically to get people dancing in between karaoke songs. Such a weird transition. I have a Rane One now and I love DJing. But all of the manual music organization has taken the spontaneity out of my music sense. It's a weird dilemma, I feel like most people start learning how to mix with dj equipment...and THEN learn their music and it leads to a different philosophy of how they choose their music. I already know music. So much so that it is overwhelming....then my sets end up feeling like cluster-fs to me because I'm picking songs based on mixability alone lol. Argh! I'll get there I just gotta keep workin. I need to stop overthinking it. I also need to put my big boy pants on and organize my crates by VIBE instead of just genre, year bpm, and energy(as dictated by mixed in key).
@OVIEBEATS2 жыл бұрын
I think it's the most important as a DJ to check out the vibe from the party/event where you are DJ'ing. At the end of the day I think the music is the most important and the transition comes second. So stop worrying and play some nice music for the people!

Think just made me decide to get into djing/mixing. First I Thought I wanted to produce electronic music. Messed around with that for a bit, learned a lot, made a couple songs. I just never really felt like I was enjoying it. Much respect to the good music producers that are actually doing sound design and all that because it can be super tedious and time consuming. Djing on the other hand looks like it will be fun as hell once I get past over the initial learning curve. Like just doing that mix in the video looks so much fun.
