Thank you for the great and informative video. It would be amazing if you did a video explaining more about how the secondary air and emissions system works and the vent hoses, etc. Have always been curious about this.

Just found your videos. I was researching this bike before deciding perhaps purchasing. Im looking in the used market for it and figuring how to notice signs for neglect or abuse. Now i see what to listen and pay attention to.
@MishMashMoto
@MishMashMoto Ай бұрын
@timothymidkiff2894 Really dirty air filters, dark or smelly oil, how the clutch feels and is adjusted, rusty chains, worn sprockets, broken/bent spokes/rims, bald rear tires (slick like a drag strip burnout tire in the middle), bent frame, missing parts. It's normal for some wear and tear on a bike like this, but those are just some items I look at when buying a used bike. Don't worry to much about if the bike is shiny and clean or not (as long as it's clean enough to inspect everything). Happy hunting, and don't be afraid to walk away or offer less if it needs some repairs. Most people will negotiate fairly.

Greetings from Central Mississippi. I just want to say, I appreciate these maintenance videos. There isn't a lot out there for the Xr150l. If y'all have to do any repairs, I hope to see a video on that as well.

So far so good with our 2 bikes. No repairs needed except for the 1 fuse problem. We plan to do a big bore kit upgrade at some point fairly soon.

Thank you for this. I am just now coming up on my 2500 miles soon. I noticed you mention testing new carb jet sizes. I am in Kansas City (I think roughly 600ft sea level). Taking out the snorkel and running a 110 main jet or at least bumping up to a 108 does a lot for your torque. Some people had nice results with a 38 pilot as well, depending on how open the exhaust and intake system is overall
@Crash-mi8os
@Crash-mi8os Ай бұрын
I believe the extra airflow is healthier for the engine as well, in hot weather and at sustained upper rpm range, the engine can overheat at stock settings. Since opening mine up I haven’t had this issue anymore
@MishMashMoto
@MishMashMoto Ай бұрын
@Crash-mi8os The 115 main jet adds even more torque in the low/midrange and runs much cooler on the road at speed. The MPG will go down slightly. On the stock carb. and at about 600' I would suggest you try the 115 main jet at least.
@MishMashMoto
@MishMashMoto Ай бұрын
@Crash-mi8os BTW, if you go with the 38 pilot be sure to free up access to your idle fuel adjustment screw so you can fine tune the idle mixture. You will also need a "single D" type adjustment tool ($5-$10 on Amazon).
@Crash-mi8os
@Crash-mi8os Ай бұрын
@@MishMashMotoI might try 115/35. Last time I tried 115 with 38 and it felt bad. I am thinking too rich. 110/38 feels just right. I might try 115/35 though now that you mention it. I did tinker a bit with the idle already and it seems to be doing just fine. Edit- I should add I added a full new exhaust system as well as taking out the snorkel
@MishMashMoto
@MishMashMoto Ай бұрын
@Crash-mi8os Try the 115/35, I think you may like it. If not, go with whatever works best for your bike. Be sure to pull the welch plug out to gain access for the mixture screw (I wasn't clear on if you did that or not yet).

Thanks very much, did you find that there was a range from the dealer for the valve clearance? I thought it was .003 and .005 +/- .001?. Reason I ask is that I just did my 600mi check and have a valve tapping sound. Intake was great, right at .003 and wouldn't fit .004. Exhaust side felt good with a .005 and would fit a .006 but felt snug. You think I should go ahead and tighten that exhaust down till it won't fit a .006? Thank's, sorry for the long comment.
@MishMashMoto
@MishMashMoto Жыл бұрын
Any mechanical tappet type engine will always make a little tappet noise. I try to set mine exactly at .003” and .005” respectively. My Honda dealer didn’t give me the tolerance and I didn’t ask for it because I am pretty anal about getting it exactly right. Your exhaust is really set at .006” and while that’s right at the largest spec limit it’s not going to hurt or damage anything it will make slightly more tapping noise. Just run it like it is until your ready to go back in and get it back closer to the recommended specs. When mine start making noises again is when I go back in and adjust them.

Nice video. Do you know any after market fuel tank will fit XR 150 L. I am thinking if their is a way to double the fuel capacity will be great.

I do not for sure but maybe a CRF230L or CRF-150F tank if someone makes a larger tank for those. Might work 🤷🏼‍♂️

I hope this is not repetition. The manual indicates valve check every 4k km I am wondering if people are seeing wear trends now that these bikes have been here awhile??
@MishMashMoto
@MishMashMoto 7 ай бұрын
We have about 6,500 miles on both of our bikes now and not seen any signs of internal engine issues. Valve clearances have been consistent so no signs of wear. We run our bikes pretty hard at an average of 6,800RPM for many hours a day sometimes. Quality seams to be very good on this engine so far.

Before doing the valve adjustment did you notice any extra “Ticking” noise during warm idle? Also and changes to idle noise after adjusting?

Yeah, I have a good ear for “tappet ticking”. It was making a little noise. Probably about .003” slack on the intake side. Nice and quiet after adjusting.
