Today we are catching up on baseball and more specifically the MLB in 2023. It's been a wild start to the year with poor teams excelling and some of the richest teams in the league struggling. There's been controversies, drama and of course many hotdog promo's along the way!

I moved to Baltimore a year ago and decided to get back into baseball because I figured "Hey, the Orioles are pretty bad. It'll be fun to watch some bad baseball." Instead they've gone on an absolute tear over the past season and a half, and it turns out that's even more fun to watch.

Life long VA resident, O's are my favorite AL team (braves fan, sorry Richmond Braves were closer than Baltimore as a kid haha) 2023 Orioles remind me soo much of the 2018 Braves. Young guys leading the charge, so much potential and hope for the next decade+. Hope we meet in the WS, but also hope we kick that ass when it does happen 😆

That’s kinda how my Giants journey started in ‘08. I had moved to AZ & decided to get back into baseball. I started thinking about a team to follow regularly & thought, “well, Oracle Park is beautiful stadium & my family are all from the Bay Area (I grew up in the KC area), plus, they broadcast a lot of the games here, I might as well watch these guys.” It was a good time to get into Giants baseball. The Orioles have always been a sentimental favorite of mine (along with the Royals). I love the ballpark & I always thought the logo was really fun. I’ll be rooting for them as the season progresses.

The salary math is correct - For example, Aaron Judge (and a few others) are making approximately $40 million per season. In fact, by revenue, MLB is second in the WORLD for league revenue behind the NFL. It's a mix of factors - huge emphasis on concession sales (high quality restaurants, tons of beer options, etc), merchandise sales, big TV contracts, tons of stadium advertising and a ton of exclusive contracts between vendors and MLB all add to the profit line even if the league doesn't have nearly as many eyes as soccer, for example.

Out of all of sports in the USA, baseball pay is very high. All of the money is guaranteed. You take a team like the Braves, and they had over 3 million paying fans last year, and they were 2nd in attendance. Baseball salaries are very big

The fact there's 400mil contracts and many 250-300mil contracts says it all. They don't give that money out for the fuck of it. Teams like my Braves are raking that cash in. It's pretty crazy and not sure if it's sustainable for a lot of teams.

I grew up in Los Angeles and thus love the Dodgers but before you decide on a team I would recommend you watch three films that should give you a sense of the history of the game. 1. "42" with Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford 2. "Field Of Dreams" with Kevin Costner 3. "The Pride Of The Yankees" With Gary Cooper If you want to get why the game is loved watch "Bull Durham" and "The Sand Lot" They won't help you find a team but they will help you understand the game in ways that are difficult to explain.

The Phillies!! You owe the city of Philadelphia at least some love!! When you come to the states, you definitely need to go to a Phillies, Mets, Yankees or even Orioles & Nationals (more away fans than Nats fans). Great crowds & all are not too far away from each other. Try and go on a promotional night when they give out bobble heads or something. **Mets v Phillies are playing in London next year!

Even if you don't go, at least you might be able to watch it within your own time zone. They've been digging themselves out of the massive hole they dug for themselves, and could still win the division.

You'll be wise to pick an east coast team because of the time change. The Orioles are about to be one of the most successful teams of the next decade because of their young talent, so if you jumped on that bandwagon, you'd probably have a great time. Orange and black are also amazing colors. I'd also recommend going to the game in London. It won't affect your experience going to a game in the US. There's an entire culture around traveling to ballparks. I didn't feel any less amazed the first time I walked into Fenway Park of Wrigley Field, and I had already been to tons of games.

It is an old and tired myth that there are "poor" teams or weak financial teams in major league baseball because "ALL revenues are shared". Therefore, each team has the same amount of money to spend each year. Unfortunately, the top players always choose to play in bigger cities with bigger TV markets. All professional player salaries are public information in America. Also, you can find every player's salary with a simple Google search. ...p.s. Bryce Harper is a wealthy, overexaggerated drama queen.

I’m an Angel fan. They frustrate. The offense is good. The pitching and relief pitching is just bad. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen them lose games with a lead. I saw them lose with a 6-0 lead. On the other hand you can watch Ohtani and he’s great fun! Plus he has a nice haircut.

The Angels did it again . Ohtani pitched and left the game 7th inning leasing 3-2. Angels give up the lead 4-2. Angels tie it 8th inning 4-4. Extra innings 10th. Angels give up one run. Outfielder drops a pop up! Angels get double play. Inning over. Call reversed on replay because - catcher want stepping on home plate . Miami scores 8-4. Angels get one run and lose 8-5. That’s how it is being an Angel fan. And they have a winning record! They just lose games they shouldn’t .

Baseball is the 2nd highest revenue producing sport in the world, behind only the NFL. NY Mets pitcher Max Scherzer is making $43.3 million from the Mets for the 2023 season AND he is also receiving $15 million from the Washington Nationals from a previous long term contract, so he is earning $58.3 million in 2023. And his fellow Mets pitcher Justin Verlander is also making $43.3 million this year as well.

I don’t think Pittsburg Pirates or Baltimore Orioles will continue this performance into the 2nd half, but I’m glad to see their teams doing well. If you want to root for teams that are expected to make the playoffs: Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, Minnesota Twins in the American League. Atlanta Braves, NY Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, LA Dodgers, San Diego Padres in the National League. A lot of people pick a favorite AL team and a favorite NL team.

You should watch the Astros or the Rangers. The Astros are good young team and should be good for a while. The Rangers have come out of nowhere and are leading the league in runs. In 2021 the Rangers had the 3rd fewest runs. In 2022 they moved up to the middle of the pack and now they are leading. They aren't blowing away the league in hitting or homers. They are just getting it done with runners in scoring position, in fact they have the highest RISP team OPS since the 1930 Yankees (excluding the 2020 shortened season).

You need to make the Atlanta Braves your team. They currently have the best record in MLB. They are known as America's team because in the '80 and '90s there games were carried by a major cable TV company and it allowed everyone in the country to watch the Braves play. Since 1991 they have been constantly one of the best teams in the MLB. Also when you come to the US you need to visit Georgia. You can watch the Braves and the reigning two times National Champion Georgia Bulldawgs who are currently the team being predicted to win an unprecedented third National Title in a row. Come to Georgia and see two of the best teams in their sports. However you may want to skip the Atlanta Falcons game, they are the state's only black eye.

If you look at a list of highest paid athletes baseball doesn't rank as highly because they get relatively little money from sponsorship deals. Soccer players like Ronaldo and Mbappe are super lucrative for marketing and Basketball stars get massive shoe deals; meanwhile, Mike Trout's most famous sponsor is a pretzel company (Shohei however is super marketable and may be the best paid athlete in the world next year). If you only look purely at salary paid by their team though, baseball players are among the highest paid in the world

You will probably have a lot of serious Cubs fans -- some even from America -- coming to watch the game; Cubs fans have historically travelled very well and Cardinals are our biggest historical rivals. Also yeah, MLB is the one american sport with no salary cap, which is why you see the yankees and mets going over $200M every year. The other teams *do* get similar revenues due to revenue-sharing agreements, but some of them just don't spend it due to greedy owners. Lionel Messi is getting paid 35M euros, while Scherzer and Verlander are getting paid $43.3M each -- about 40M euros. On the other hand, MLB players early in their career have a lot less negotiating power as they can't become free agents. And Scherzer's only getting that salary for 3 years, then his contract's up and he'll have to re-negotiate for how he's performing at that age. As such, over the course of a career, top soccer players probably still make more, but it's close. Verlander's contract is also 3 years, but the third year goes down to $35M, and only if he meets a requirement for innings pitched in year two, because in the third year he'll be 42 years old and pitchers usually aren't as good at that age as they are even a couple years earlier. Scherzer is younger and will only be 39 in the third year of his contract; it actually includes an option for him to opt out of it a year early if he thinks he can make more money elsewhere (I doubt it). A good source I found on MLB contracts and player salary histories and such is www.spotrac.com/mlb/rankings/ . Fernando Tatis Jr. is a second-generation major leaguer; his dad, Fernando Tatis Sr. (obviously), famously was the only player to hit two home runs with the bases loaded (aka grand slams) in the *same inning*.

"On the other hand, MLB players early in their career have a lot less negotiating power as they can't become free agents." A line that will be read with a bit of grim humor (humour?) by anyone who's been watching his MLB The Show series on his gaming channel.

There's something so wonderful about the Angels always failing despite having some of the greatest players of all time. I hope they don't break their no-playoff streak this year

Angels have definitely been a fun team to watch this year and they have a decent chance to get a playoff spot.

The Orioles bandwagon is getting loaded up and there is no better time to jump on it than now. We have a very young team with a lot of talent and a seriously low payroll, not to mention even more young talent on the way. Hopefully the checkbook opens up soon and we can add some bigger name veterans at the trade deadline or in the offseason, but the team has been one of the best in the league since this time last year and they don't appear to be slowing down too much any time soon.

NFL MLB NBA are the top 3 richest leagues in the world and yes the players make more than soccer players (minus ronaldos saudi and messi's barca) infact the top 100 sports contracts in history only includes those 2 soccer contracts en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_sports_contracts
