You guys had me wanting to test drive one. You made quite a strong argument for why it would be worthy of considering (perhaps even recommending). That was until you mentioned, at the end, … it’s $78,000 - $94,000 price tag!!! Really?!?! Barely 4 years ago (2018) the petrol powered Grand Cherokee started at $43,000 Canadian. People were critically humiliated for spending nearly $71,000 for their monstrous powered SRT8s. I think that Jeep is punching far above it’s weight class with these 4xe’s. But that’s just my inexperienced opinion (zero personal seat time). Great looking though. Thanks for another excellent and fair video review.

Jeep has gone off the deep end with their pricing, but as was said in the review, people still snap them up for some reason. There are much better quality and/or value vehicles in the same class.

Agreed. At the end of day… its just a Jeep. Who could ever justify paying $20-40,000 over the petrol variant… to save a couple of bucks at the pumps? Certainly not I. Cheers.

Santa fe phev pricing blows this thing out of the water. 'Luxury' trim Santa fe models are listed at $48k CAD on auto trader right now vs 4xe at $83K CAD. THAT'S NUTS! Paying the jeep premium for the rarely/never used off road capability makes no sense. Of course the jeep may have better resale, but not enough to make up a $35k price difference. You could get a Rav 4 hybrid with the cash saved.
@kellingtonlink956
@kellingtonlink956 Жыл бұрын
Exactly! A $35,000 savings is the price of another car! Or… a whopping 25,000 litres of fuel (at $1.40 Ottawa today). Nuts is right!

The pricing is what killed it for me. I had a Wrangler Rubicon 4xe (that was stolen out of my driveway this December) so I was motivated to give the Grand Cherokee a go. I found it to be too large, had far too many baubles I would never use, and felt underpowered unfortunately, despite the nice electric assist. The range wasn't as good either in pure electric. I ended up going with a Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge. Sure, I lose a lot of off-road capability, but even in my Wrangler, I only did that 4 or 5 times over the last five years. Thanks for continuing to create great, relevant reviews!

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe summit is a beautiful car, my father and I went to see the new car ready to be sold off the lot, it was a 2022 model. short term, we took it for a test drive, the acceleration on electric was quicker than gas, the safety systems were awesome. I recommend doing a test drive and seeing all the functions of the car yourself. HOWEVER, don't let the year fool you, the difference between the 2022 and the 2023 model, is just the year; both are the model design, the SAME features (only a few additions making it as add-ons but nothing major to change the car), and the performance of the car IS THE SAME. What is different is the price, so look in closely to see what year is it, if they don't tell you what year it is, look at the letter they put for the vehicle, if it is "N" it's a 2022, if it "P" it's a 2023. 2022 "models" are cheaper than the 2023 with its Rebates (look up the meaning, right now I'm too lazy to put the definition down). The 2023 has NO rebates, dealerships put these rebates on the 2022 so they can get them off the lot for the 2023 (even though they are the same). Also to note is when purchasing the 2022, LEASE it first, yes lease the car for 39 months or 36 months, then buy it back afterward. You would save a whole lot more than just buying a 2023 model. Go to a seller you can trust, and ask what is the difference between the 2022 and the 2023 models, what are the rebates for the models and see if it would help you or not as rebates changes each month. Do the research first, if you like it, then BUY IT.

I have an overland 4xe. I was able to talk it down to below 60k from 70k. It’s worth it around or below 60k- in the US. I don’t fill up on gas but once a month. I leave it in hybrid mode just to use gas else it will just sit there. I get over the 25mile range. Plus, it’s huge inside. I love it.

Great review thank you! I live in the US and signed on one of these beautiful machines on DEC 2023. Not cheap but so far I have not regretted trading in my '20 Rubicon (which I also loved) for this off road beast. If a Rubicon and a top-end GC ever hooked up and had a baby this It is what the baby would look like! The Trailhawk 4xe is a dynamic vehicle and features a unique blend of fast and aggressive-looking and luxurious. Reviews on the '24 model are still very minimal and despite the sticker price they are still hard to find in the USA (especially with a sunroof, which in my opinion makes a big difference). Thanks again!! ❤❤

The 4 cylinder just isn’t going to cut it, not to mention the very small battery. Reliability will be a factor that is compromised with these specs! A 6 cylinder engine and a battery 🔋 twice the size would have been better and more dependable. Missed opportunities will bankrupt some manufacturers in next decades.

I've always loved GC's and was quite interested in the 4Xe when I first heard about it. Partially thanks to you guys I'm picking up GC # 5 on Saturday, and even went for the Trailhawk. While I usually like all the bells and whistles, I found the leather seats in the Summit Reserve rock hard and didn't want to take the chance I'd get it home and have a sore back within the week. Trailhawk seats are soft and had enough give that I went with that.

Unfortunately most of us were not that lucky with the air suspension. The air suspension is so bad, there is a class action lawsuit in Alberta for the "allegedly" defective air suspension parts. The plaintiffs are represented by Invictus LLP. The air suspension is the second most common issues on RAMs.

@@andreaspencer9813 Definitely agree! We currently have a Tucson PHEV, and typically don't come close to draining the electric mode during daily commutes or running errands. It's been awesome, and when you do need the engine, we're way ahead on our yearly gas mpg, cutting our fuel costs dramatically. PHEV isn't intended to get the electric range of a single EV charge. But you could still enjoy electric mode benefits 90% of the time, without the EV limitations. Don't get me wrong, really like some of the EV's out there. Since I'm usually driving a Rubicon, I'm thinking the Wrangler 4xe would be good since it gets pretty near V8 power, with better daily driving mileage than other Jeep powertrains. But that Grand Cherokee does look comfy! I just wouldn't take the GC on anything serious off road.

I have a ram 1500 with air suspension but in Canada it is a liability due to corrosion. Currently looking at a plug in SUV and while I have owned a jeep trailhawk (gas) I think the Mazda CX70 is so much better on performance and value. I don't like that you can't get a 2024 jeep to save your life, while you can get a 2025 CX70. Every jeep dealer I have talked to about getting one just deflects and offers up one of their 2023s. I really liked your reviews of the 70 gas and plug in.

PHEV makes senses in so many SUVs. But not in this JGC. Its more of a compliant car for Jeep while they are focusing on selling more gas-powered SUVs and truck, which make more senses for their application. My neighbour has bought the exactly the same car, as the press car. But she came from a brand notorious for poor fuel economy and reliability. A Range Rover Sport. If I have to buy a premium PHEV SUV, just got get an X3 or Q5.

Love the GC and hybrids. Curious as to why no push to just a hybrid vs plug-in. Toyota is killing it with their hybrids with the Rav4 pushing close to 40mpg. Yes a lighter vehicle but they've been able to keep the price point down. If the Hybrids and PHEV's can't get at least 30mpg, its just not worth it at that pricepoint. Sad to see the Trailhawk move exclusively to 4XE as well. Will be interesting to see if this was a good move for Stellantis.

Trying to understand the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe I’m sure where to start here. Higher end model’s (Trims) all have towing of 6,000 lbs. There are no tow packages offered on the Trailhawk and above (is this standard on these model’s - if so there’s no mention of this anywhere in the specifications). Now the lower trim of the Grand Cherokee 4xe only has a tow rating of 1,588 kg or 3500 lbs. I believe you can add a tow package to this lower trim - will that increase their towing capacity? That package only consists of 4,7 pin wiring harness, automatic headlamp leveling system and class IV hitch receiver. Nothing there seems to me anything that would expand towing capacity. So in a long winded way please explain to me how the higher trims ( Trailhawk, Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve) have a 6,000 pound towing capacity???

I bought A 2021 RAV 4 Prime XSE, USED I personally believe this RAV4 Prime XSE fully loaded was underpriced even at $60K. Brand new at the full price this amzing SUV is priced very low. I Compared it: The new 2023 RangeRover PHEV is $137000 + taxes The 2023 Volvo PHEV REcharge is $99000+taxes and the 2023 Porsche Cayenne PHEV is $129000 +taxes . I actually think the RAV4 Prime, may not be as "Pretty or Prestigious" as those so called Luxury SUV Models are. But the Prime has much longer EV range and is rock solid. If I had a 1 dollar for every positive comment I hear about R4P, i could buy one of these overpriced, massive deprecating, Cherokee models etc etc for a second "look at me SUV". 🙂 It never what you pay for something its what you sell it for!🧐 These dream brands will let you down every time on resale. They should’ve given it 100 miles under electric so fail in their behalf and the price is ridiculous! The US economy is grinding to a halt and the financial rocket scientists at Jeep are going to feel it! To buy a vehicle you should only spend 1/10 of your income which puts you at $100k to $200k annual income to legitimately afford these cars!! Especially when US rents are $2k per month or mortgages are around $2k to $10k per month!!! This takes 50% of the US population out of the market for this vehicle.

Wait, you guys were so anti PHEV and recommend the non electrified version of SUVs like the X5 for example. Why the change of heart?

We still don't think any of these luxury brand PHEV's have enough range and are very expensive which we talked about in this review. It's the same with the X5 45e starting over $80,000 CAD. I do think PHEVs are great if you can stay within the EV range most of the time. You can have a clean drive most days.

A loaded Jeep Wrangler is $128,000. With 13% tax and 96 month financing at 6.99%(current Chrysler rate) works out to a little over $190,000.00. Jeep has lost their minds! Again, $190,000.00 for a Jeep Wrangler!

Not many people plug in their PHEVs every night. I'd be more likely to plug it in once or twice a week to save a little fuel. How well do you think it works in that situation? I don't care much about pure EV range. I prefer seamless operation and predictable behavior.

German cars just work like a standard hybrid when discharged, and usually can top up the battery while driving, but at the cost of fuel economy but that’s still less than using fuel in traffic.

@@Brian-jv8iy Mercedes Benz has an integrated starter/generator that's pancaked between the transmission and the ICE. I think Jeep does the same thing. However, both systems are very complicated. It would be nice to see them shed some weight and complexity and have only an axial motor in the transmission that replaced the flywheel, the alternator/generator, torque convertor, and the starter all in one shot. It hasn't been done yet, so it must be hard to do. Also, maybe there's some way of integrating a heat pump in the engine's cooling cycle to get rid of the heater core and simplify that.

I love the design, but buying one i would never, maybe just a lease because Jeep/ Chrysler reliability is so bad, can't compare this aspect to volvo. In the end it all depend on money and what is the use done with the car. I loved it until i heard the price, it just killed it for me haha

Always a Dance with the Devil with the feature rich Jeep GC but this to me has saved the entire Brand from just peace of mind alone. Sorry to hear in comment below that their Wrangler xE was stolen but hardly surprised happening sad but true. Entire World literally waiting on the well panned going on forever Toyota Rav4 Prime which quite suddenly is making all the noise given the stunning success of what was once The Most Boring Car Ever Prius made by Toyota now not that at all anymore. Still great time to be in the hyper competitive and hyper innovative North America Das Auto and another great review as the new and better products keep flooding an already saturated USA market anyways. Can't speak to Canada other than to watch this great KZbin effort here going on forever.

The air suspension might work fine for you all in BC, not so for us in SK where we get to -40C. I have a RAM 1500 Limited with air suspension that was a $3K option, then only to pay another $2K out of pocket to the dealer to remove it a couple years later after constant issues. Dealer admits the RAM/JEEP air system is not for cold climates. Just GOOGLE and see multiple class action lawsuits. It was my favorite option when working and my worst nightmare when not working ........ ARRGGG

I guess all brands have their quirks. I love the air suspension in my S-Class Mercedes. I was in Alberta a few years ago at xmas and it was -32ºC. No issues with the suspension at all. The heater was another story. We were kept warm, but not hot. The subzero temps reminded us to stay in BC.

To those who often quote "overpriced" in their questions. If you live in a free world running on capitalism, nothing is "overpriced" because you have the right to drive straight to the other brands. Everything has a budget and they spent theirs on certain things and cut on certain things. Plastic in the bottom half of the interior is a mainstay in almost any brand now. If you want your interior covered in high quality plush materials, go with Rolls Royce or the more affordable brand, Bentley! It's a free world.

Love the 4xe lineup. Currently driving a 3 row midsize SUV. For the starting price of nearly $66,000 (USA), I think I would opt for a larger vehicle. I.e. Ford Expedition. Yeah I know gas guzzling beast but a bigger bang for the buck. Will definitely take another look when Wagoneer gets electrified or Grand Cherokee 4xe is offered in an L model.
