I wish Nathan would produce more of these, absolutely amazing horns. They sound even better on locomotives, definitely one of the best horns out there.

A K5HLB is one of the rarest horns. Does sound like a Lesile horn...
@thelightninghunter239 ай бұрын
Love these horns. The 3B changes the chords into diminished chords, making them sound like Leslies. If the #4 was sharp, it would play the same chord as an S5T/RS5T. If you still got that brand new RS5T laying around, I'd love to see a horn battle!

Heck yea that would be a good one. I’ll have to put those 2 against each other soon.

Easily the most underutilized bell combo in history. It has such a menacing tone to it, and especially when you put it on a locomotive, the C Diminished 7th Chord this thing produces is just pure joy for my ears. There's a reason it's my favorite horn.

Gives me the chills just hearing a trains' horns ever since I was a child. Sometime ago, I was on my way to a doctors' appontment at teh hospital downtown and en route is a railroad trestle. One of the CSX trains was making a brief stop on the bridge and as I walked by the engineer was blaring its horn and ringing the bell in my direction. I asked him if he was trying to flirt with me, not that I didn't mind the compliment. I thought it sounded pretty good and all coming from his train, made me wish I had the opportunity to ride with him, though.

Great horn! I would definately like to hear more of these on GEVOs instead of the usual K5HLs. This horn reminds me of a Nathan M5 mixed with a Leslie RS5T.

Conway Scenic Railroads GP9 1751 had a horn just like this called a K5LLB from 2013 - 2017 it was amazing!!!

beautiful horn man, always love to hear that 3B!! also, that lagging is the indeed the #1 bell. for some odd reason, a lot of the new #1's have had some weird problems, whether it be what is going on here, pitch shifting mid blast, or even some immense warbling. it does add some interesting and unique character to the horn, which i think is pretty cool!

Sounds like a K5L and a K5CA-LS mixed together. Very powerful and eerie sounding horn!

These horns are hard to find. Common railroads they use are BNSF and CPKC. All railroads have these horns but for replacements. I don't think Nathan offers horns with 3B bells except for the K13B, K5CA-LS and K5UL-AU-LS. If I had this horn, I would keep it with the 2 facing reversed but mount it backwards to look like a GEVO with that horn. There were 7 GEVOs that were built with this horn since 2014 with 3 locomotives having changes. The list is down below. 1. BNSF 8025 2. BNSF 8026 - replaced with narrow font 2000's K3LA 3. BNSF 8052 4. BNSF 8055 5. KCS 4817 - 3B is dead 6. KCS 4818 7. KCS 4834 - now has narrow font 2 piece K5HL, swapped with KCSM 4652

There is also CSXT 5284 which got one put onto it, replacing its original Narrow Font K5HLB (the chances of it getting replaced with another K5HLB was extremely low. There is also BNSF 9367 which has a raised letter K5LLB. Same thing but on a low manifold, unfortunately since it’s a thundercab it doesn’t have ptc and doesn’t lead. CP 8706 has also gotten one put on it

You know, that could make a good storm siren, and maybe with a little tweaking on the system, you could use it to outsquelch some of those who like to listen to their 200 watt car boomboxes during the wee hours of the night in an otherwise quiet neighborhood. It might make them think twice about doing that ever again or at least think a runaway train is coming their way, especially when they hear the bell as well as the horns. It also might make a good deterrent against potential car thieves, tracking a missing car inside a large mall parking lot or going to the market and/or heavy traffic build-ups on the highway or a country road! Rest assured, you won't have to worry about the location of your vehicle ever again. Ronco or Bulbhead products might be able to sell them off like proverbial hotcakes in no time flat. Spending a long time at the mall and just when you've missed your car, can't find it at all? No worries! Try the train horn mounted on your car or motorcycle? Worried about potential car thieves or break-ins? Try the train horn to spook them off with a built-in sensitive sensor with an alarm so deafening, they'll know you mean business about not having your car or bike stolen. LOL

Hey, always loved your videos, especially your Buell B5, probably my favorite sounding horn ever, but after watching this video it reminded me of a question I've always had and never been able to solve. What is the exact reason some horns have forward and backward facing horns?
@TheHornKing9 ай бұрын
The main reason for that is so there is more directional sound. Locomotives run in reverse, almost as much as they run forward. With bells reversed they’re able to project the sound more when doing shove moves.
