We took a guy out the other day from PNW who “cuts his teeth on single track for the last 20 years”, we chewed him up and spit him out 2 miles into the ride where he turned around and went back. It’s been raining all week here and I Just rolled 15 hrs on the new bike today. I can’t tell the difference anymore from my old bike. The thing flat out rips. Drop the psi to the 120’s (dealer recommended) open some clickers and break it in. 90% of us can’t tell the difference and our riding is so poor anyways it won’t matter. The bike is unbelievable. KZbin has everyone bent out of shape that it’s too stiff. I was in the same boat. My suspension tuner said “ride the damn thing, it’s an awesome bike”. The notion that it is “border line dangerous on the trail” is a bit over the top. It breaks in and is a blast. I wouldn’t go back to my 20’ or 22’ xc if someone gave it to me. I race "B" hare scrambles here in FL and agree that the bike needs to be pushed and works WONDERFUL here in our large FL sand whoops! So I tried to remove the rear brake pedal. Removed the nut on the inside, and there's not enough clearance to get it off the bolt and remove it. The bolt appears to be press-fit into the frame - didn't attempt to drive it out. What's the trick to getting the pedal removed to get the dog bone bolt out?? Thanks in advance.

Good take on the bike. I always had an issue with ktm. Spend a ton of money then spend more on suspension that isn't even close to being ok stock. I didnt realize just how bad it was until I bought a kx250x this year and it is fantastic stock with very few flaws.
@Phitzgood Жыл бұрын
You were saying the throttle is very snappy and not for people with poor throttle control…. My question is, how does it compare to the kx450? Especially the first 1/4 turn. I personally have trouble with sticking tight turns with ruts and I get a nice arm pump on my right arm.
I note a couple of things, perhaps something that’s been normal for a while, but different: rear brake lever is forward of the clutch cover more so than previous generations, maybe it has been this way since the fuelies came out. Also noted the countershaft sprocket is held on by a bolt instead of a clip. Again, maybe both occurred on earlier models and I just didn’t notice since I don’t own anything new nor have I worked on them. Just an observation.

The stiff suspension and chassis would be a no go for me. Our riding area is mostly rocks and roots which I prefer to ride. I’d love to jump on one though to see what it’s all about. 😊

We ride rocks and slick single track all day long here in Arizona. It’s been raining all week. Just rolled 15 hrs on the new bike. The notion that it is “border line dangerous on the trail”- Jeff is a bit over the top. It breaks in and is a blast. I wouldn’t go back to my 20’ or 22’ xc if someone gave it to me. I ride with a guy that has 6k Ohlin suspension in his brand new Beta and still out ride him in the rough slow single track. Ride the bloody bike and enjoy it.

It will never be like a 22? A bit much over the top. 99.8% of us can’t tell the difference in suspension when we throw our leg over a bike. I’m coming off a 2020 and 2022 XC. Just rode my new 23 today (10hrs) on some nasty rocky wet Arizona single track that we always ride and I feel no different at the end of the day. Huge smile on my face and dirt in my teeth. Sure maybe it pogos a tiny bit more than my old bike in the rocks but I keep up just the same as the fast guys I normally ride with if not faster. Ride your bike and get better at riding will make more of a difference than $6k in suspension mods. I just talked to one of our local ktm suspension guys and he said, “just ride the damn thing it’s a great bike”. This is a guy that tunes and sells high end suspension lol. I think KZbin has gotten into too many peoples heads and causing them to bitch about the stiffness when if you blind folded them they wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference. Over 70% don’t race just like you said… then who cares. It’s an unbelievable bike everyone and It pulls much harder than my old bikes. I absolutely love it. Pull the trigger and ride the thing.

Don't have one of these, and don't intend to buy one, but my best riding buddy bought the Husky version, so I've been following along. Fascinating that it actually has 6 speeds instead of the 5 listed, as well as the fact that different bikes are shipping with different components. Also interesting that you're thinking much of the stiffness is coming from the frame/swingarm in addition to the suspension. Are there any tuning adjustments you'd recommend, such as tweaking clickers/running less pressure than specified in the fork, that could be performed by someone without the means to throw an additional $1000 at their brand new bike? Thank you!
@slaverace12 жыл бұрын
Hello: The suspension will become a little more compliant with time. As to clickers and PSI, start with the comfort settings and back off the fork pressure.

That $1000 is usually the best money you will ever spend. With a good tuner it turns your bike into a magic carpet. How do you design and manufacture a suspension that is awesome for 500,000 different riders of all sizes ,weights and skill levels? You could also just buy a Kawasaki like Patrick Barry. Evidently the KX250X is fantastic right of the showroom floor.

Good stuff. Thank you for putting the comments in context at the beginning! What do you think about the 6500 kit WP offers?
@slaverace12 жыл бұрын
Brian: The 6500 kit is a quality product but the set-up is aimed at motocross. It can be re-valved and set up for off-road use, but where do you find a tuner that has done R&D for off-road on 6500s and has also sorted them for the new chassis? I don't think that person is out there yet. I prefer the MX Tech Raven cartridge inserts that come with springs and are tuned for your intended use. They also have more advanced technology, a better anti-bottoming system, better customer support and are made in the U.S.A. 6500s are $1420 with springs, Ravens are $1500 with springs and custom tuning.

There are ways around these new regulations. There are services now that will help you register your bike out of state. You will have to make it “street legal” to get plated out of state. Then you will be able to ride in CA.

For rocky nasty Colorado trails do you ever run a trials tire? Older guys seem to swear by them so I thought I would ask.
@slaverace1 Жыл бұрын
Before hybrid knobbies with gummy compounds were available, I used trials tires for a couple years. Upside is they climb extremely well but there is WAY too much downside, poor braking, the sidewalls cut easily and over 10mph the bike wiggles and wobbles. Technology has surpassed the trials tire for trail use.
