Owned an 890 R for about 4 months. I absolutely loved the bike, but it turned me into a 66 yr old hooligan and I knew if I didn’t get rid of it I would either windup in jail or die. The most hypnotic, communicative, telepathic bike I’ve ever owned. Oh to be young again with a track close by!

My bike is a KTM Duke 390, TBH that's the most powerful bike I have ridden in my country, until i got the chance to ride the 22 MY 890 R a few weeks ago.physically it felt just like another Duke 390. The dimensions, seat height, everything felt kinda similar except that power, my Goooooooooood, it felt like I was having a fun heart attack, after just 1 kilometre of riding, I was soooooo happy, that i literally laid on the grass and cried of laughing...I have never felt anything that's addictive or ecstatic like it in my entire life...

Crazy isn't it. Thinking about it it's probably because the heavy weights are making over 200 bhp these days and middle weights are ONLY making little over 100 bhp.

In my 3rd summer with the 890 Duke R and people that have never ridden this bike will never know just how good it is in the twisties. It actually makes you a better rider with so much confidence taking corners. The suspension is adjustable so when he’s saying it’s firm, it can be adjusted to whatever you like. I adjusted mine to a more softer ride. I’m 6’2” and 215 lbs and adjusted it so I could enjoy 3 good hours of riding in the hills and mountains. It carves it up!

It probably is one one the best ‘riders’ bikes you can buy. It’s very direct and the best fun you can get on 2 wheels on the right roads. I’ve just had some issues with KTM reliability that spoils my opinion of ownership

@Steve-motorcycles
@Steve-motorcycles Жыл бұрын
@@Tall_Paul_Rides the KTM 890 duke R in my opinion, is as about as much fun as you can have on a bike given the right roads. On start up, the screen say’s ready to race? The bike certainly inspires you to ride, let’s say spiritedly. However, it’s not always easy to control that keenness say, on a wet Monday morning on the commute to work. It will do it but it edges you to go and ride like a twat every minute.. The MT09, the gen 3 has that side to it but is also quite happy to poodle along in a high gear, low revs and amble about cruising. either bike is great. You won’t make a bad choice. My ownership experience on a KTM duke spoils my desire to own another. On fun factor, I’d give the Duke a 10 and the MT09SP 9.5 however, to own I’d give the Yamaha a 10 and the KTM a generous 8
@billpayer3745

@@Tall_Paul_Rides Geometry is pretty similar but when you ride them back to back, the triple just feels more refined and grown up. If you want to hoon around all the time, the KTM is a great option. If you want something you can hoon around on, do some touring, do some commuting, nip to the shops. The Yam does it all. It's all things to all men (and women).😎

This bike is PHENOMENAL, albeit a one trick pony, that trick being the twisties. I used to have one & LOVED it. I live in Eastern Spain (Comunidad Valenciana) & we have some awesome, very technical curvy roads & this thing is 'la leche' (f***ing brilliant) in local parlance. True, you have to concentrate - it's faster than you (at least me) are, but wow. I suggest you blag a long termer & get yourself over here to find out what it can really do on the road - endless tight, well-surfaced, connected technical twisties, where you can push the suspension, lean on the brakes & get the most out of the engine grunt on exits, without having to worry about police or traffic. I now have a BMW RS, to do everything, including long distance traveling (& I love it), but if I could have more bikes, this would still be in my stable. Great vid as always, looking forward to the comparison.

Nothing wrong with the bike or KTMs bikes as a concept. The problem is KTM as a company. The lack off quality and numerous problems pared with KTMs approach to fight their customers on warranty claims. Also their stupid policy to build in tech that you have to unlock at a additional fee is just retarded. One more problems is that the inshurence companies wants a whole lot off more money to inshure these bikes. The superduke in Sweden is 3x the price off a Tuono V4 or a MT10.

Now the 890r, quite simply the best bike I have ever ridden. Don't agree with your comment of feeling small. I'm 6'2 and a little lighter than you but let's face it most people are 😂 Also on the 765 I couldn't read a bloody thing on the TFT 🧐

The handlebar has another more forward mounting point and the angle is adjustable as well. I'm 6'5 (196cm) and it isn't too small for me. And if you want even more agressive riding position just add Woodcraft clip ons. And the buttons are programmable. You can set up short cuts and favorites. On mine the up button opens the mode selection directly (Track, sport, street rain.) Down button opens up trip 1. You can set those up for whatever you like. Except when track mode is selected. Then the up & down buttons adjust the traction control levels.

as someone who's short (167cm, 5'6) I'm just curious how does it feel for a ~2M person to ride a bike, supersports, naked sports, big adventure bikes and such, I could ride almost any type of bikes, even some big ones like the TRK502x (not in bumper to bumper traffic or hills though), but to me, all bikes feel comfortable, except for supersports (only for my back though)

@@sadeqalbana Depends a lot on the bike. The new Fireblade R-RR-RRR-RRRRRr is impossible for me. Pegs are stupid high. Knee angle is impossible. Aprilla RSV 4 is too cramped as well. The older liter bikes vere ok. I have had a KTM RC8 which was really roomy for a sports bike. 2009 Fireblade was comfortable. 2005 Kawa Ninja 10 wasn't bad ergonomicly but it was a bike that otherwise tries to actively kill you. 😁 GSX-R line of sports bikes are really comfortable. The new R1 not comfortable at all. Most naked bikes are just fine. I have riden the Street Triple, Speed Triple, Monster, MT-09, MT-10, Superdukes, and no issues. Big Supermotos are a lot of fun. Hypermotards, SMC-R 690... Few of my friends could not even consider the Hyper SP because they can't reach the ground. For me it is perfect. But I do like my Duke 890R more than the Hyper. A lot of people over estimate the effects of wind or no fairings. Even thou I'm tall I can cruise in comfort on a naked bike at 160 km (100mph) for hours. This summer I rode from Travemünde North Germany to Neukirhen Austria in one go overnight. 1070 km in 11 hours. On the Duke 890R. No screen. Just wear good gear that doesn't flap around at all and have a good helmet and good ear plugs and it's not a big deal. Only above 170kmh it gets to me on longer high way stints and at those speeds a screen and fairings start to become essential.

Had it replaced 3x, and it never helped. I've had it serviced twice by KTM, and both times, it comes back having false gas guage readings. After about a week, it fixes itself but its been annoying having range anxiety while on it. Small issues but scared to spend a bunch on another KTM. I hate that because the 390 has been so much fun to learn with. But the 765r is calling my name.

I just started on a 390 this year, been going very nice for the 2000 miles I've done on it. Did you ever do a track day on it? I want to do those next year. I'm already dreaming about the follow up and I'm looking more towards rs660, Trident or CB650R.

Looks a Grunt party, in the twisty bits a bit of magic . There seems to be a bit of disagreement about quality of finishing and reliability, which if true would be disappointing as the bike looks great . I’m looking forward to the comparison ride with Greg , all will be revealed. A great video Chops shows road class of this bike .

After your Ducati Monster SP video I have been meaning to book a demo ride on one of them, however, you sound so much more exhilarated riding this KTM.....I need to try one! What puts me off is lack of Dealer network (near me) and reliability hearsay..

I got the Triumph, i was considering the 890R briefly but ultimately decided I liked the sound and character of a triple engine better. Was debating if I had made the right choice until i got to the part with paywalled equipment and features present on the bike??? There went any chance of me ever trading mine in, forget that nonsense.

I’m pretty sure what bike you’d go for in the comparison test. I’m hoping that Greg would favor the Street as I’ve already ordered one lol. Seriously though, I’m pretty convinced that the street is the more allrounder machine which can do slow when called for and that is what I’m after. A machine that delivers on all moods.

890R is a good cruiser. The twin makes it relaxed. I think between Street and Duke it all about which seating position and engine character you prefer.

@@robertandersson2523 I’m coming from an MT09SP which is quite upright and I’ve had mine converted to flat bars so it was all over the front like the KTM. In all honesty I’ve never tried the KTM and I’m sure it’s great as all reviewers say how brilliant handling it’s got. My issue with KTM is reliability. Loads of friends had issues especially with the electronics and I didn’t want that.

@@stephenspiteri_zunkus absolutely KTM has their reability problems. I would rather take a MT09 but I prefer the twin and the handling of the pumpkin.

What a bike the 890R is. My 2018 OG Duke 790 is hooli enough and handles great but lacks the Brembo brakes & WP sus of the 890R. Still love my 790. Think the 890R would put me in prison.

Ive had my 890R for 2 years. Its an absolute master piece. Ive ridden it long distance and ridden it hard and its never let me down. Ive owned alot of bikes in over 25 years of riding and this is the most fun on 2 wheels ive ever had. All it needs is a track pack and exhaust and it unleashes the animal within. Ive ridden and left for dead much bigger bikes in the twisties. It loves the back wheel. The only downside is the cup2 mileage. They are like chewing gum. Mental grip but dont exspect more then 2k miles. Maddest thing is it still returns 20mpg more then my Mt09. Ive got 67mpg on average and never seen below 55mpg even riden hard. Magnificent machine. Ps 0-80mph a Superduke 1290 cant get away. 50-100mph its a different story. In the twisties my pal struggles to keep up on a 1290. Especiallly into and out of corners. The tech pack really makes a difference.

Since the first day I have had issues with this bike. After taking my girlfriend for a ride the day after I bought it, I kept having this extreme creaking sound, likely from the rear suspension or swing arm. Then the front brakes started sounding the same, both issues the dealership told me is “normal”. I haven’t been able to ride it for almost a year now because I’m waiting on parts. Trust me, when you’re riding it (and it isn’t making noises that it isn’t supposed to) it’s incredible, but I would warn anyone against owning a KTM because the build quality and reliability is horrible.
