I owned an S Class and bought the 2023 G90 in January instead of getting another S Class. Having driven the G90 for 4 months and putting almost 4k miles on it I have no regrets at all. Everyone knows an S Class, but no one knows Genesis which makes the G90 a little special/unique. Plus, the Genesis brand is becoming a big deal and as a boring old Dad I wanted something that was "cool" to my kids. To be fair to both, they are pretty much the same except the Genesis looks better (in and out) and cost me a lot less even after adding the 10yr/100k coverage (pay cash and add another 5y/50k for only $2,500 - worth it in case I start driving a lot). In a few years the Merc may the car again, or maybe the 7 Series (which is what I thought I would buy), but for now the G90 won.

Yeah kind of a Genesis hater. Alex on autos gave the g90 an A+ in ride quality and the S class an A- and he is very thorough in his reviews. Also on the materials point, you’re so off-point the S class is just more plasticky and that is that. I’ve been in multiple older S classes like 2010, 2014 and they rattled like CRAZY. So no you or nobody else can tell me that the build quality of a mercedes is the best LOL

You ARE a Genesis hater. I've watched just about every review on the Genesis and you're the only one with a ton of negative comments. As for the power train, why didn't you compare it with the 6 cyl Mercedes. Obviously the V8 will be more powerful, it's basic math.

This car is amazing in almost every aspect! I recently surprised my wife with the 2024 E Supercharged in Makalu Gray with the all white interior. This is our 5th Genesis vehicle and her 2nd G90, which is a 2021 5.0. In silver with the taupe interior. My wife says the 2024 is only missing the 5.0 8 cylinder. If she wants more acceleration, she just jumps in her 2022 C8 Corvette LT2 Z51. Remember, a happy wife is a blessing!😇

I like your comment : If you buy features. Just traded my S450 2020 for the 2023 90….because of that. I’ve been a Merc client for more than 25 years. At one point, price matters. Yes the Merc is better…but not by much. I’m very picky but the difference is minimal. Also, the status is not the same. Let’s not kid ourselves. But you know what, been there, done that ! I feel It’ll be a much better deal for the 5 years i intend to keep it and then an other new one then. Good review Ben.

I like both cars and both seem to be the best at their price-point. If you're happy with something not quite the best then the Genesis is your car. If you don't mind spending the extra dough (quite a lot of it) then get the Merc.

You are not hating Genesis. You are calling it like it is. Genesis is fine, but definitely not at Mercedes S-Class level. You get what you pay for with Genesis. You are not getting an S-Class at Genesis prices. We have 2 S-Class sedans and last year bought a Maybach. We went to see and test the Genesis last month and it is definitely NOT at the same level as the S-Class. That's not to say it is a bad car. It is fine and perfect for those looking in that price point, but it is not an S-Class clone (let alone being better).

Basically, (high end) entry level luxury vs (middle of the pack) mid-tier luxury. Genesis basically leap frogged Infiniti in that entry level tier and is in more of a battle with Lexus.

So in other words the S is still the better car. No mystery there. You get what you pay for. Features per dollar are not what make a luxury car. I wouldn't expect the Rolls SUV to ride as good as the S_Class. Now drive the Ghost or Phantom.

I’ve owned 4 S class cars over the past few years. When I go in for service and get an E class loaner, it’s shocking how much nicer the S is. The price point is reasonable for the quality and feel. There is no comparable vehicles, German or otherwise.

I know the feeling. After over 2 decades of E-class (starting with the W124 300E), we went to the S500 in 2005 and haven't looked back. After getting accustomed to the S, testing an E loaner actually felt "shoddy" (and small) in comparison. The CLA was positively scary as it was woefully underpowered and bounced around all the over the place. So, it's been one S-Class after another since that first one and we've also now added a Maybach to the stable.

S class is a bench mark of flagship of luxury car segment and g90 is first gen of Genesis. It will take many years and many generations of g90 even to be considered as a competitor of S class if it can survive that long. However, I test drove G80 before and I was really impressed. I hope Hyundai(Genesis)/Kia keep doing the great work they have done recently.

You have atrophied taste. The greatest class that the Mercedes S has lies in its star and look no further. Even the interior lighting, of which it boasts so much, is NOTHING refined, but rather exaggeratedly vulgar. The Genesis G90 simply humbles it in everything that has to do with design and class. Not to mention many other equally important things when it comes strictly to luxury. Has Mercedes paid you? Because what you say doesn't make sense. EVERYONE I know who owns both cars will stick with the Genesis without hesitation. There must be a reason. And who tests them? More of the same. Of course, your assessments are unreliable.
