Thought I recognised your voice from PDrive! Watched your videos for many years. You've switched over to this channel? Might want to leave a note in the community and about sections of the old channel.

@@ytlurker220 Yes, that's correct. Thanks for your support. I was aiming to do a farewell video on PDrive but the current owners (we sold in 2015) wouldn't allow it, sadly. I have now been cut off from the channel, even though I started it in 2011 - it's a weird feeling. It was an epic 12 years that resulted in around 1200 videos. I loved putting them all together, along with my good mate and co-founder Josh Bennis, and hope you enjoyed watching. I had to escape due to the new owners plans and direction even though it meant starting all over again. I'm aiming to continue where PDrive left off while adding in some new styles and ideas - we have a lot more flexibility now. Very open to any feedback or suggestions! Thanks again. Brett

@@drivingenthusiastaustralia oh no, that's terrible and I'm sorry they did that to you. Thought something might've been up. Often you were the only channel putting out 0-100 videos for Aus-spec engines, or for an entire model globally - especially Renaults which I really enjoyed!! And you were certainly the only ones to cover every car and measure 0-100 times accurately. You really helped inform my buying decisions (or provide entertainment the rest of the time), and I hope your former audience will find you by just searching for a 0-100 video like I did :) Subscribed and I'm really looking forward to seeing you do more in-depth content!

Cancelled a BYD ATTO 3 on order, to order a MG4 which have sat in at the Fully Charges show in Sydney. Prefer the sober interior of the MG4 compared to the colourful BYD one. And prefer the established MG dealership model.

I like the motor whirring noise on this, like a spaceship. Too many brands are trying to make fake engine noises or might be described as too silent for some, at least this is authentic and sounds kinda cool.

With 'brake-hold' method - building the power up on the brake pedal before taking off. It doesn't usually work on EVs but I still test it anyone as some are quicker using this method. Most ICE vehicles with a torque converter auto are quicker brake-holding.

Who knows if the 170 horsepower engine is the same engine as the upper version...? The torque values are the same 250 Nm 0-100 almost the same...Maybe the more power is just cut via software?
@andrzejz4218
@andrzejz4218 3 ай бұрын
Yeah its super strange that the 150kW version has actually slightly worse acceleration than the basic car (7,9s vs 7,7s) - at least in the MG brochure :o I'd expect the added power more than make up for the slight mass increase (16kg) because of bigger battery. Maybe the 150kW version has better performance above 100kph? At least the 180kW/350Nm variant has real benefits to performance, but it's rather poorly priced compared to the basic variants.

that tray with the gear dials is such a bizarre call from MG - otherwise interior looks pretty shmick for the price... would much prefer this for the money than the BYD Dolphin

Does it have an lfp battery or the older kind that has a shorter lifespan?
@Airbag888
@Airbag888 Жыл бұрын
looks like the standard range so probably LFP Additionally eV battery lifespan issue has been debunked.. after 5 years you'd maybe lose 15% capacity
@santosh911
@santosh911 Жыл бұрын
Even if degradation is at an acceptable level in the older types, lfp offers the least degradation, all other things being equal, so it still is important to know the battery type.
@Airbag888
@Airbag888 Жыл бұрын
@@santosh911well I already said LFP, I added my comment on lifespan because it's a huge misconception that ev batteries just go downhill when they factually do not because the new BMS keeps the batteries at optimal temps throughout their lifespan. I was considering the SE version with LFP myself because I was going to supplement my home solar with the car's battery. However I also wanted the added safety features of the Trophy (which has the classic LiOn battery). So I'm going to get that probably and limit charging to 20-80% and still connect to the house. My daily usage is around 30km roundtrip with weekends at max 100km. So really for me even if the battery were to lose 50% I'd still be f ine. Fingers crossed it all works out. Additionally, where I am the battery has a 150k km or 8 year warranty. I think they (MG) are confident in the battery tech which is good.

@@Airbag888 so it works for your use case. I understand that charging is better managed today, but if given a battery choice, I'd have to balance my desire for performance against longevity and resale value.
@Airbag888
@Airbag888 Жыл бұрын
@@santosh911Resale value for eVs is a bit of a toss up.. Today LFP sounds good but by the time you will want to sell it it will be some other hot battery tech that has twice the longevity. I wouldn't worry about that unless if you are someone who sells their cars after 2yrs For the battery choice, like you said if 'given the choice' I'd have picked LFP too with the Trophy features. Really what I miss in the SR is the back camera

I don't hate the car and I know it's built to a budget. But I just can't bring myself to order it. It just feels so cheap Almost to the point it's like going back to the 80s budget cars. The user interface is just horrible and lagging behind pretty much everything else. And no I'm not an EV hater I personally drive a company id4.

1. When I just got inside this car the stench of cheapness was unbelievable. It's like a cheap plastic toy for kindergarten children inside. 2. Ergonomics equals zero. 3. Real mileage with a fully charged battery is 200km. Yes I will repeat it again - best range is not over 200km. Usually 180-200km. 4. After the battery's warranty is finished you can literally burn this car because the reselling price will be zero. My price for this car is not over that 10k$

Thanks for your insight. I agree about the cheap feel inside, but this is a cheap car after all. Also, I managed to exceed 200km quite easily, including performance testing so I'm not sure what you've done to score below 200km. Did you have the air-con on full blast heat the entire time? That aside, could you help out our viewers by suggesting what car you recommend for someone looking to buy an EV for around the $40-50k mark? Thanks a lot :)

@@drivingenthusiastaustralia I live in a hot country and driving with AC working all the time, so yes, mileage always 180-200km even if I'm cruising at 90kmh. And for 40-50k$ I'd buy BYD Han or Dolphin, Volvo EX30 is coming soon, Toyota BZ4X (but with the same cheap trash interior) but not MG.

Yeah, my wife and I just sat in one in Thailand in January this year, and yep, neither of us was impressed with the interior. We did not take it for a test drive, so when they do get here, we will give it another try. I sat in the Dolphin here in NZ, and that has a much nicer interior, at least with the dark colour interior with a moon roof as well as rear interior lights, I also believe with its 2 height boot floor it's possible to fit a space saver in there. Of course, only the extended range 60kwh is worth having, but its performance should at least on paper blow the MG4 in acceleration due to it having better torque. I am not sure why so many are so negative towards the Dolphin as its price vs. spec are, in my opinion, better than the MG4.
