A nice quick overview of the differences Vicky. I have to agree with you on the areas of cost savings, those views in the boot do not look great but how often are you going to look at them? It certainly seems to do everything it needs to so another one for the test drive list when it's time to change.

Not nearly as desirable as its new little brother. It needs a redesign soon, those overhangs minimized especially. Still MG is making some impressive strides in the EV market and I never saw that coming. They've come a long way from being a ho-hum car maker. Good review Vicky, as always, and what a nice day to be out and about filming it all. Good thing you brought the umbrella.

Hey everyone go buy a cheap car, cheapen yourself, and cheapen the society you live in. Race to the bottom. It's not an mg, it's fake mg, for fake people. Buying a Chinese mg is showing everyone how much of a loser you are. You can't buy a real car so your happy to sell yourself and everyone around you out. Driving around in your fake shiny mg fake because your pretending to save the planet when all your really doing is funding the most dangerous regime in world history. Your morals are that low that you view yourself as more valuable than the future of democracy. I can't think of anything that deserves more disgust contempt and mockery. Beige people trying to be something they are not and sacrificing freedom for their own greed. Fake people driving around in a fake mg. With their greedy little hands on the wheel looking like the mediocre fake people they are. It is a Fallacy that buying design and engineered from a Chinese company, is the same as manufactured in China for a western company . You are either in denial of do not understand economics to see the difference. Western countries ENTIRE economies literally hang on the fact that we are centres of technology, research, and intellectual property. Without it we do not have any economy, wealth disappears and with it everyone's job, the entire pension and welfare system, including the NHS. Poor and middle income people will suffer the most. They will live in third world poverty. We become a third world nation under the yoke of Chinese rule. Servants of China dominated by the Chinese.

It is desirable Vicky! Not necessarily on it’s styling though. We have a small ‘crossover’ SUV…why…because there are so many other SUVs and my wife needs the height to get the visibility she needs. If estate cars had continued to be the go to car for carrying stuff (for us that means dogs!) then we’d still be driving estates like we used to. Before the Nissan Qashqai we didn’t have this problem as SUVs were off-roaders and rare.
@jonathantaylor19982 жыл бұрын
Dogs aside... you might be surprised at actually how "not-so-high" the seats in an SUV are in reality, even when compared to regular, less-resource-wasteful, more fuel efficient hatchbacks etc. According to the RiDC website database, the Nissan Qashqai has a max driver's seat height of 725mm from the ground. A VW iD3 seat is a mere 2.4cm less in overall height at 701mm The BMW i3 I bought for my elderly mother to get in and out easily is less than 1cm (9mm) lower than the supposedly 'lofty' Qashqai SUV...! It's all marketing hype but, sadly, the UK car buying public falls for it, hook-line-and-sinker - worst still, damaging the planet in the process as, according to a New Scientist article from 2021, "SUVs consume 20% more energy per kilometre than a medium size car" and, with emissions of over 500 megatonnes of CO2 over the last decade, have cancelled out the otherwise impressive 350 megatonne reduction in CO2 from combustion engine efficiency gains and the switch to EVs.
@Telcontarnz2 жыл бұрын
@@jonathantaylor1998 maybe…don’t know the mm but the model y I much higher than our old golf (fitted dog easily imo)…to be fair it’s not my opinion that counts! Also am NZ based so lots of Large U#es (mostly working) and full sized off roadies (mostly driving kids to school) so the overall size gives a sense of security too.
@global_nomad.2 жыл бұрын
is the ride height raised or are there just small wheels with a big gap to the wheel arches ?
@jonathantaylor19982 жыл бұрын
No, it has a raised ride height as the larger battery pack now fitted protrudes slightly from beneath the car - a compromise of the car being an 'electrified' version of a combustion engined model and not a ground-up EV platform.

I had a deposit on an MG4 but it was very poor quality of finish for the £32k Trophy edition. So I pulled out. However, I recently drove an MG5 and its a whole different level. Far far better quality of finish, no more strange Passat design, drives really well. Plenty of power. For a similar £32k... It is back to top of my list for being practical. As this video says... Finance packages / residual values HAVE TO be good. Then it is a winner.

The MG5 was sub 20k a few years back. Not sure how MG can justify a £10k price increase even with current inflation rates.
@benrgrogan2 жыл бұрын
When was it sub 20k? It launched at £25k In 2020. Inflation would put that at 28.5k in August 2022 prices. However since then the Gov £3k subsidy has gone, so should now be £31.5k. In real terms the base model is actually better value. And that's before you factor in the additional 45 miles range, much nicer interior and loss of the base trim level.

Better on weight and surface area aerodynamics. Not so much for Length. MG(and it's Chinese backing) can tell where it can cut through the market crap of opulent class driven arms race of luxury/executive EVs When those who want EVs and back in the 2000s hybrids wanted practicality, durability, efficiency, accessibility, we end up inheriting cars that define value. The Prius is not only a bargain now second hand, and common place, so many are still reliable and economical. There hasn't been many electric cars that were bought to be commonplace second hand, unlike the Prius the early Nissan LEAFs are not for everyone, or any petrol/diesel car from the 2010s for that matter. Fragile, convoluted, electrical bugs, etc The sad fact is that the bulk of new car buyers in many markets are the same pool of consumers from the 90s-2010s but who have gotten richer and older. We seen what happens when every new EV is a quick 0-60, expensive competition for Tesla. It's wasting electromobility Now just like housing, there's a generational gap in mobility
