2023 Michelin Bib Gourmand: 79 eateries in Singapore named, including 19 new entrants

19 new eateries -- including 17 hawkers and two restaurants -- in Singapore have made it into the 2023 Michelin Bib Gourmand list. With 79 recipients, it's the most extensive yet. The list features good quality food that is no more than S$45.

NEA to a hawker where the revised rent was “almost 40 per cent” higher than the previous rate. He proceeded to slam the agency for raising hawker stall rents amid challenging times, saying that “it’s a horrible timing” to do so now. “Here we all are doing our best to #supportourhawkers, and there they are at same time raising the hawkers rent by almost 40%… Why oh why I ask. You may need to claw back to top up the national coffers but do your leaders even know it’s a horrible timing to do so now. This hawker had been languishing in sales this whole year,” said Mr Seetoh.

Mr Seetoh responded saying that it is about “timing and empathy, not the quantum nor the earlier well-intended rent waivers”. In a Facebook post on Monday (28 Jun), he shared a letter received by a pair of hawkers, which indicates the amount of rental hike offered to them has gone from S$800 to S$1,100 per month. The date of the letter was censored but the year in which the revised charges would apply is “2021”. Mr Seetoh noted that the hawkers now have to pay S$1,550 per month, adding that they have decided to close permanently when their term ended.

I have always been adverse to seeing Michelin stars at hawker centres because they tend to be overrated and the foods are just okay only. The worst thing about having Michelin stars at hawker centres is that it has a price increasing effect in the whole hawker centres itself regardless if other stalls have the award. All you need is one stall to received a Michelin star award and then the hype and crowd will form and that stall will start to sell higher and then other stalls will do similar pricing in order not to stand out from it. In the end the whole place just became overpriced and expensive. If I want to see that tyre man I will go to a restaurant to find him. Just keep the hawker centres humble and realistic. Don't introduce too much nonsense into it.

My favorite stalls will be ruined for sure after gotten Michelin award. I will never enjoy the food again due to long queue. Moreover, the quality will not be the same and usually degraded due to unable to meet demands, cuttings corner will happen for sure

That 400 is the cost of living special payment paid in June. Besides this, there are cash GSTV will be paid in August, Cash Assurance Package in December as well as rebates for 2 months for service & conservancy charges and utilities. Senior citizens will get slightly more. Thus the total for this year is more than 2K.
