I've been driving my GLS through the national parks in the Blue Mountains every second weekend or so since I got it in 2019. This test is like showing an acreage property driveway. With a set of mud tyres it has seriously blown me away the stuff it can drive through, and then gets me 8L/100 to and from work every day. The way it performs in low range is just fantastic. I haven't touched the top of my dash in 3 years so I couldn't care less how hard the material is. For $40k, absolutely zero regrets. For myself, it wasn't about how fancy the interior was, when you're at the top of a mountain that's the last thing that's on my mind. I wanted a proven engine and drivetrain.

We bought a new 2017 Triton for the farm. Hasn’t missed a beat and is comfortable enough. Not interested in a 20 speaker sound system or all the other fancy boy rubbish that the others come with. It easily tows a horse float with two horses on board. It’s a work horse not a sports car, and to that end it’s brilliant. We were so impressed with it that we bought a 2019 GLS Pajero sport.

I bought my 2021 orange GSR last year. Love the colour, I went with the black interior though. It's super comfortable and goes great off road. I've done plenty of 4wding in Victoria and last summer I took it to Tasmania and did some awesome tracks over there. Such an underrated ute. My previous ute was a 2013 MN Triton

3 Tritons and 700k Km and one failure where the intercooler pipe came loose and popped off 10min diy back on the road. Value for money yes dated yes but still the best value ute in my opinion. first was the 2.5l and I think the 2.4 is a better unit in many ways. I will say this the last and current one I could not get the GLS with super select and settled on the GLXr bad move the GLS is the way to go. missed you using the Superselect off road in no locked 4x4 I rarely find the need to lock it up it does such a good job in the unlocked version detecting slip and sending power where it needs. never use the diff lock. I find it comfy as a driver its my work bucket so little care given to the tool it just does what it needs to and does it with ease. Tows fairly well even though I have it loaded to the brim with tools day in and out. That's all the good of this ute and ego bypass sees a huge boost in usable power, less delay to get power and driven like its stolen fully loaded (700 odd kg) returns 11.5km/l the ear kills this motor as with it on the same driving sees you at 8.2km/l how can burning more fuel result in less emissions??? it has pdf so its not like its blowing out black clouds like yesterday years diesel motors. The bad: OMG the worst infotainment system on the market it all works most of the time but bluetooth is shocking so must use car play wired. Sound is mediocre at best and every bit of door trim vibrates if you get to your theme song at anything louder then 25 (goes to like 40) on the volume. it is rather jarring through post holes iv had plenty other work vehicles and only Toyota and Isuzu jars your back bones more through a pothole you cannot avoid. Im due to replace mine soon its reaching the 250k mark and its getting a bit lazy but im hanging in there hoping a new one is on the market soon with a bit more refinement in cab don't care for the other poo poo safety features I tend to switch them off as lane correction is down right dangerous. I had a ranger and raptor in between the last two and thanks Ill do the cornering don't need a car to try and straighten the wheel mid corner. Both the ranger and raptor were a touch comfier (ok the raptor was a dream comfort) but I don't think its $15+ comfier raptor was so full of issues Id be struggling to buy another and that awful 10 speed auto tats as temperamental as a donkey never again. higher buy price more expensive services as in 50% more and small issues I just did not have with the triton. its not the most powerful and at 250K its getting tired but so did the fords the raptor I cannot claim this I got rid of it after 50k km just too many days in the repair bay with failed thermostats piratic gear changes failed shocks....... stupid things for such an expensive car that cannot carry load Wich I think was the biggest problem it sat at 100% load capacity and could not handle it. 3.2 6 at was just thirsty but never failed me and it was superior at towing if you did not mind the fuel bill that went with it. Ill stick to the triton till it fails me. its not impressive by any standard but it is still a darn good ute for the money.

Hey Paul, you can adjust hill decent control with accelerator, the crawl speed will hold where u let go of the accelerator. If u go too fast, u can press the brake till you find your desired speed and it'll hold that speed :)
@jerrymyahzcat
@jerrymyahzcat Жыл бұрын
But a better HDC system is what I have where the cruise control buttons can be used to set the speed before you even start moving up to a max of 30km/h. And you can just change on the fly with the cruise buttons rather than accelerating or braking - using those just overrides or and it reverts to it’s setting again after you release the pedals.

I have had a 2013 a 2015 and a 2018 Triton. I have used them as my daily driver and for off roading around Australia and in the Victorian high country. The 2018 (my current Triton) Has done the Canning stock route ,Tanami and long haul return along the south coast. It has completed a Birdsville trip towing a 2Tonnne Caravan including Camerons Corner The dig tree and Walkers Track. Towing my now preferred Pod Camper we completed A trip last year to Darwin through Kakadu, Arnham Land across the Savannah Highway to Lawn Hill, Normanton, Isa and then the Sandover highway back to Alice. I regularly do short trips to the high country, Last one Licola, Zika Spur, Wonangatta, Billy Goats Track to name a few. If that isn't testimony to the absolute prowess of this much underrated vehicle then I'll go he. All the Tritons have performed from an operational point of view faultlessly and the dealer support for the few cosmetic issues I have had has been superb. I have considered the rest and what I'm hearing (pretty worrying issues with various problems combined with a lack of dealer support) doesn't inspire me with confidence to seriously consider any of rest and I really don't want to be stuck in the bush thanks if I can help it. (An Interesting aside on the Canning we only saw Toyotas (mostly 70 Series), NissanPatrols, and Mitsubishis . If you are after a practical pretty comfortable I have to say, and undeniably dependable and versatile truck I for one couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Bought a 22 GLS mid last year after spending the first half deciding on what ute to buy. The interior is obviously quite dated, but I think for the money you spend on a hilux sr5 or a higher spec ranger, its seriously not worth it for a slightly newer style interior. I paid 49k for mine and at the time an sr5 and ranger equivalent was 65k, both lacking a constant 4H compared to the triton. Currently cant see myself buying any other ute until value is increased in the other options. It seems most utes now are trying to pull buyers from the suv market. Will we see a return of the mighty wagon??!!

Was surprised Paul that you did another Triton review. I commented on the last Triton review about my 2007 Triton 4d56. She now has 160k kms on the odo and still no issues. Still running original shocks and a Mitsubishi mechanic after driving it told me the shocks are still good and don't need changing. Triton suspensions are very durable and can take an absolute beating. The amount of bad roads and potholes my Triton has slammed through and not broken is incredible. The engine is still rock solid, always starts first time and never left me stranded. She came with 136 hp and 314nm from the factory and was a real powerhouse at the time. She's slower now obviously but still never fails to amaze me with its power that it just seems to find out of nowhere. She thrives in the cold but doesn't really like extremely hot temperatures and crappy fuel. She's had to deal with bad fuel all her life so we've used diesel treatment to help but the fact that in spite of all this she's held up so well is incredible. I've seen and heard people with rangers, hilux, navara struggle to keep there vehicle running properly. Majority of tritons sold in my country today are still on the road which is not something that can be said about hilux, ranger in particular and navara. I always tell people that my Triton can do nothing wrong, it just keeps going and going without any complaints. I also had the opportunity to see the new Triton in person and sit behind the wheel. It's a handsome vehicle and is very well equipped. The interior is very plastic but it's by no means ugly and is very practical as you mentioned. The drivers seat has so much more adjustment than mine has which will be beneficial for drivers over 6 foot in height. Maybe one day I'll give it a test drive but I do like it a lot and if I had the money would definitely buy one. Super select 2 is amazing system and I've seen many videos of the current Triton off road and it's an absolute beast. It's just so damn good off road. Cheers Paul and crew.

@ChristopherH Definitely not their only strong point. They are just as reliable as a Toyota Hilux, better offroad than most other utes if not the best, and the Super Select 2 4WD system is just better than any other 4WD system on the market right now. An sure, they make less power on paper but they are 200kg lighter than the UTEs so you don't feel the lack of power at all. The 3100kg tow rating is more realistic than other UTEs since that still leaves 400kg of payload before it being over loaded, where if you tow 3500kg with the other UTEs (Which is stupid) you are very close to it being over GVM

I have the MN GLX-R manual. My only issue unfortunately was dealer induced and resulted in an expensive repair. The 10 year warranty is a joke. The dealer's will cheap out on the oil and try to rip you off with unnecessary stuff. That is their standard practice. This is my second Triton. I am now thinking about an auto transmission but looking around I just can't do without my super select 4wd system. The only gripe about the newer Triton is that the rear window in the duel cab no longer comes down. This is the best idea ever. I have carried a 4 metre length on conduit in the car without a problem. My mate had the same car and has just upgraded to the Isuzu Mazda BT50. He told me to keep my car. I was anti Mitsubishi for years but it's the only brand we have bought 3 in a row. My wife's Colt is magnificent. 240K on the clock with no squeaks or rattles and we only just replaced the brake rotors and that it! It has outlast her friends BMW Mini, VW and other Euros.

We bought a 22 GLS earlier this year. Very happy how it has performed so far. We need to tow an offroad trailer at just over 2t + a full load in cabin and tub, so total at about 4.7t. Yes we are joining the big lap trend. Didn't want to spend more than 60k or 65k at a stretch. Looked at all the big players in this segment. Triton is pretty much only rationale choice new or used. For our needs, the triton does everything just right. Yes it would not win any drag races, a bit heavy and slow to turn in suburbs, rides a little rough, but it gets everything done in the end with no issues, kids even enjoy the school runs in it. The driving techs and cabin design are a bit old school, but it has most of the latest techs that matters the most on road, only missing adaptive cruise and autonomous driving on highway (both are useless for heavy towing anyway). And fewer electronics means fewer things to go wrong down the road. The ability to drive in 4H on tarmac is the stand out feature of all, it helps in wet, when pulling a heavy trailer and through twisties. In the end, that's 90% of our driving and probably the same for everyone else. For just over 50k, it is the best value ute out there considering performance, reliability, dependability, safety tech, driving experience and running cost. Plus there are loads of aftermarket mods and accessories. This current gen Triton is probably going to be the best ute Mitzi ever build, since next gen is likely to be a rebadged Navara.

@cookaride2307
@cookaride2307 2 жыл бұрын
@@juanitaburt5281 3t is a big ask for every Ute except something like a F150 or RAM. Our triton is ok so far pulling about 2.2t, we had weighted our trailer a few times to get the load right, on a slight incline it doesn't need to drop a gear unless in 6th, then it may need drop to 5th and able to maintain speed easily. Pulling off from standstill may require a bit hard throttle, it's the engine tune I guess, it always needs a second or two for the turbo to kick in then it starts to pull hard even without a trailer. Going up steep hills it will drop some speed and gears to keep the engine in power band, but not too bad, doing better than most trucks.

Bought one recently. Couldnt go past the price bu tt have been pleasantly surprised by the Triton. Definitely better than I was expecting. I find it quiet and greay offroad. Love the ability to drive in 4wd on the bitumen, a real bonus in the snow country.

I got a new VRX (top model here in NZ) at the beginning of the year. So far I'm very happy with it. It feels plenty peppy on the road, but then I'm generally not heavily loaded. I'm not impressed with the speakers - they reverb quite a lot. I was also frustrated with the display that was very unresponsive along the bottom, and was going to raise it at the 15K service, but it has miraculously fixed itself.

I bought a 2019 Triton single cab for work. It is used to remove demolished elevators from site and frequently tows a dual axle 10 ft trailer with full load. It is abused in every sense of the word except for maintenance. It also tows long distance on regular occasions. It has never let me down or had a problem. The only criticism would be that it does struggle on hills when towing, but I can live with that.

I’ve had my 2016 GLS since new at the start of 2017. In comparison to what was out there at the time it was plenty nice enough inside. I have done approx 180,000km with not a single problem other than a warranty issue surrounding the 6 speed manual gear box. Lacks on power and tech but again, was on par with all competitors at the time of release. One issue I have is the build quality but as is expected when you’re paying around $20-30k less for a vehicle of this kind. It is very capable off road with it’s super select 4x4 system, not bad on fuel but again just lacks the power and torque. If you’re after a really reliable and no bullshit ute that will do what 99% of punters need it to do, look no further. Did I mention it was $34,000 drive away (brand new)? Always keep in mind, the only people who bag on Tritons are those who don’t have one. General consensus is, very few owners would have major issues with them.

I bought the Triton because of the super select 2 transmission. Easily the most capable 4WD straight out of the showroom. Steep sandhills? Leaves the the others looking bashful. You mention it's apparent lack of power in the 0 to 100. Put mine up against a mates new bi turbo Ranger. Triton wins every time even when he drives it. $12,000.00 to $15,000.00 cheaper. Nuff said.

@@anthonyramdin1037 just the usual anti Triton rubbish put out by biased reviewers. When 24/7 4WD did their yearly review on most 4WD utes , Triton won hands down and then the next year it was going to win again they made a decision to ignore the official results and gave it to another less capable Ute. Money talks.

I have a 2018 Triton. Interior is almost identical but looks a little better. There’s nothing wrong with it being a little more basic than other utes… it’s a work car and a 4x4 that takes you where you want to go. The android auto it awesome and people that complain about the sound quality clearly don’t know how to adjust sound settings in their head unit. HDMI is awesome for when you’re parked up for long times for whatever reason, can chuck the chrome cast on it and keep the kids entertained. They are bloody good utes, mine is sitting at 120,000km and never missed a beat. The one disappointment I had was that the manual version didn’t come with a factory diff lock for the GLS model.

With my GXL club cab I have experienced some issues. Being over 6ft I still find you need abit of a technique getting in and out. Even then, the seat can be lowered to the ground, seat reclined back and my head almost in the roof, it is still pretty comfortable. Throttle response Is a issue, the old pull out and delay for your Tbone Express is horrendous. It doesn't do to well having 2.8t all day everyday as she turns into abit a pig dinghy. It is for work, have done 6000km in a month, so by the first service at 15,000km and the end of the year or 60,000km I would like to see how she has held up. I have owned a hilux to 300,000km, ranger 120,00km, dmax 60,000km and Nissan 50,000km , and to be honest the Triton isnt really all that bad. All these vehicles were left stock beside a set of all terrain tyres and they did work hard back to back, on and off road, loaded to max GVM with 100kgs or so for a passenger deepening on the weight of driver. I am interested to see what is first to fail, in comparison to the other utes. From what I have and do us it for, it really does hold it's own. Time in these vehicles shows the practicality, usability and reliability

How about including braking distances, most probably right at the top of things in any vehicle. Surely if you can find time to see how fast it can go in reverse or how soft trim is which everyone realises is right up there ownership wise the ability to stop when required seems like it could come in handy, l know on the odd occasion I've actually used my brakes in an emergency it's far more often than going flat out in reverse.

When I bought my Triton in 2017, it was way ahead of every Ute out on the market for gear as it had apple carplay/Android Auto while none others had it. Plus it had the super select 2 system. Only New Ranger finally has that (only for V6). Was way ahead of its time, but other utes have caught up now in tech and have surpassed it. Been a great Ute, keen for the next gen to come out! Mitsi need to pull out the big tech guns.

I use my L200 for overlanding with a roof tent and towing car trailers up to 3 tons. The loading area for the transport of firewood and other heavy things. On average, it needs 8 liters per 100 km. If I pull heavy trailers 10-13 liters. Off-road 9-10 liters. And heavily loaded about 9-10 liters of diesel. I couldn't be happier for the value for money.

One thing I’d like to add is that you appeared to downplay the Tritons performance. Watching a Carwow Ute drag race showed that the Triton was actually one of the faster Utes. I’ve gotta say that apart from a bit of lag initially my Triton had very strong acceleration all over. Love it. Cheers 🍻

For hill descent, I would say you're better off with 1st gear low range where the engine is doing the braking for you (more beneficial as brakes will not over heat). Hill descent on most cars is 50:50 where at times the car can run away from you.

Had the 2021 Triton GSR. Engine and drive train is great. especially the Super Select II. What's not so great is the steel and paint. Very thin panels and very thin paint. A light tiny nick will expose it's metal. Also the mechanical components are lighter duty compare to Hilux. This is why this ute is some 300kg to 400kg lighter than its competitors. The Best Buy is the GLXR. the GSR is not worth the extra.

If by lighter duty you mean lighter design then yes. The Triton engine block is aluminum so it saves weight but that doesn't make it less durable. Among the current utes, the Triton engine is the strongest along side the 4jj1
