Hi Zack and Andrea, finally enjoyed your Ariya review! Lol took you long enough! I am now going on 3 months of happy ownership of the evolve+ in ocean blue/ light grey. Your review was on point! One thing you didn’t mention, which is my fav feature, it the rear view mirror which can switch to camera mode in evolve+ trims and higher. You get a clear view of the whole road behind you and easier on eyes when there’s bright headlights behind you at night. I keep it in camera mode all the time. I completely agree, my first impressions of the exterior in photos was tacky and unappealing, especially the piano black around the tires, but in person it has totally grown on me in all the ways you described, but also want to add that the front grill of the Ariya looks AMAZING at night, with its distinctively shaped headlights, the illuminated Nissan badge, soooo classy looking, in my opinion. I feel so lucky to be driving around town in my beautiful new car. ❤ Future review, and possible Ariya competitor: Volvo EX30?

We quit the Tesla model Y deposit because Ariya reduced price of premium version FWD to USD 36,000 around in China. It's a fantastic car ahead in quality material and battery 89 Kwh.

Had this (in dark green) since February. My first EV and i love it. I love that its rare and not a Tesla of couese. I get compliments on it all the time and people asking my questions. I came out the gym at 2am and 2 women were just staring at it (yes i got the digits 😉) another lady followed me into the grocery store to ask me about it lol Im not even a Nissan fan, actually got this to hold me off until the EV9 comes out because im a Kia guy but i most likely will just keep this, although i want both lol. Also will add although the charge speed max isnt as fast as kia or tesla, the charge curve is great. Consistently stays in the 120s or at least 1 teens at least most the time. Even after 80% its in the 75-90 range. After 90% its usually in the 50-60s.

Yea, reviewers tend to not mention its more effective charge curve that kinda balances out the lower peak number., so it's not as big a negative as the 130 number aole suggests.

I want my foot on the brakes when I am stopped. If I am rear-ended, I won't travel as far with the un-expected shove. Disagree with you about the regeneration brakes. Since taking delivery of my VW ID4, I found that I prefer them as I can bring the car to a nice even stop and get more juice into the battery in the process. By using them on a short trip the other day, I actually got up to 4.5 miles to the killowatt.

The owners I talked to like their Ariyas. I don't have one, because as you say they are expensive. I consider the Leaf to be Japans answer to the German Volks Wagon Beetle, the people's car. Air cooled battery and engine. Keeps the price down. The low trim model was under $20,000 USD. They are good starter EVs. I like mine.

Had a Nissan Leaf for 9.5 years now and seriously considering this one. Nissan offer 3 levels of trim in Norway for this with a substantial difference between the cheapest and the most expensive ($10.000 different here in Norway). That is a lot of money for the extra bells and whistles, but those are also perhaps what brings out the best of this car too. If only the heads up display was on the Advance trim level I'd likely go with that.

Btw, I checked and saw that HUD is actually an option but only together with a full Bose sound system and together they cost so much that you are very close to the top trim called Evolve, and one might as well get the full package then.

In the northern U.S. States and in Canada, would testing E.V.s in January and February be more revealing of battery performance and range? Love the rear wiper which is mysteriously missing on several competitors. An interesting EV but the pricing makes your eyes water.

The power sliding console/armrest is sheer genius. I bet I could actually get comfy in this thing. And with low mile '23s listed around me in the mid-20s, very tempting. I would only use it for commuting 30 miles each way, 3 days per week - would not be giving up any of my ICE vehicles.

Love it but just a pipe dream for people of modest means like me. I really would rather go electric so I wouldn't be a hypocrite on the environment. One engineer told me if so many people wouldn't be obsessed over range, they would be able to make more of the battery technology available to produce reasonably priced vehicles. Why are so many people so concerned about 300+ mile ranges when far over 99% of private auto trips are less than 1/4 of that?

I drove this when it came out, I was not a huge fan of them removing the e-pedal feature from the lineup. The Mach-E has been my favorite so far, you get used to having the one pedal driving and then they take it away, and I almost crashed the Ariya because I had no idea they took that away. I wish I could the gold exterior paint, I love that!

I bought an EV version of the VW Golf 5 years ago and it cost me $28K (US) after the tax credits. At that time, you had a few EV options that were reasonably priced, although the range wasn't where most people wanted it to be and they weren't as racecar-fast. Now every EV that comes out seems to cost almost twice as much as what I paid. While it's great that we're getting more range, Zack isn't kidding when he says that these are not priced for most people. I have no idea how automakers think that they're going to phase out ICE vehicles if their replacements are all going to be priced like this. As for me, I intend to keep my little Golf for a very long time since it's resale value is nonexistent and it's serving my daily needs very well.

EV prices are driven by battery prices. And, there's still a lot of room for them to go down. Battery prices went down 90% between 2010 and 2020. There was a bump up during the recent supply chain issues when lithium and other material prices spiked, but they appear to have resumed their downward trend, with lithium prices way down from their peak. Part of that is helped by the trend toward cheaper chemistries such as LFP, which doesn't use any nickel or cobalt. Longer term, there could be a trend toward sodium batteries, which don't use lithium, so serve to keep a cap on lithium prices.

In the US it is hard to recommend due to all the Japanese parts which meant no tax credits. In Canada the pricing is still steeper than the ID.4 and Ioniq 5, but it does undercut its major rival - the Model Y LR AWD which is priced at ~$71k CAD, meaning a loaded Ariya Premier e-4Force just undercuts it at $69k CAD and it still gets the $5k iZEV federal rebates.

I went to test drive this when the AWD version came out. I couldn’t because the 12 V battery was dead. I forgot about it and about 2 weeks later the salesman calls to say they finally fixed the battery. Not encouraging.

I get the comment about the price, but let's face it, all EVs are expensive. Until the technology in batteries progresses, EVs will always have some serious downsides. Particularly cost, material composition (scarcity, environmental impact, weight and electrical properties) as well as range/capacity. A $60,000 EV is basically a $30,000 car with a $30,000 battery in it. So in order to get a nice looking car with decent features, you are going to be in the $60,000 plus range. The most expensive part of EVs is the battery, so if they can find a way to get the batteries to improve in terms of material composition, cost and weight, EVs will always remain a compromised vehicle exclusive to the upper income class.

I'm not in the US, but just seen a video saying all Model 3's qualify for the tax rebate, which makes the base car $33k. That is going to push used EV prices down and make them more accessible to lots of buyers

@@bill_heywood The Model 3 in Canada starts at $55k. Starts. The longer range AWD model is $65k. While it does qualify for a $5k Federal Tax Rebate, that's still a very expensive car considering what it looks like inside (it looks like a $25k car with a big screen in it). And if you need to give taxpayer money away for people to buy cars, your business model is flawed. If you can afford to buy a $65k EV, you shouldn't be getting $5k in taxpayer money to pay for it. That's not what our money is supposed to be used for.

@@jeffer1101 $55k CAD is £33k which would make the Model 3 a bargain in the UK where we have zero EV purchase subsidies. The cheapest Model 3 is £42,990 which is $71,633 CAD. If you get $5k off the purchase price then that makes a Model 3 £30k which would be one of the cheapest EVs in the UK. If they cost that here they would be selling like hotcakes. I paid more than that for an MG4. So count your blessings

I'm subscribed to some auto reviews and I can't remember the last time one of them reviewed an Infiniti or a Buick, and I see their commercials. I don't any other car company offering this kind of warranty they mostly offer 160k . And to me it was the biggest issue that holds me from buying electric car because charging the battery it goes over 20k in most cars. I don't know if you can confirm the warranty to us

This really should have gotten an 11 kW onboard charger. And the lack of One-Pedal driving, as a previous EV owner, is a non-starter for me. I would not get it unless they added and update to allow this. There should be an option in the menus to configure this. I'm surprised you didn't mention one oddity that other reviewers have mentioned... the way in which the brake pedal moves away from the driver (presumably based on regen). That is a design mistake in my view. The pedal should always be where you expect it to be.

The seats will be comfortable on a long road trip...yeah that "long road trip" will be extra long when you stop 50 times to recharge. So a loaded 2023 Nissan Rogue Platinum comes in at a MSRP of $47,000 cdn in my neck of the woods. If you are a decent negotiator you'll get it for less than that. But let's assume you pay $47,000. A Platinum e-4force comes in at $69,000. $22,000 more than its similarly equipped cousin. Other than the fact that $22,000 buys a lot of gas, I don't have to worry about recharging it 50 times on a long road trip. I don't have to worry about replacing the batteries every 8 years (at a huge cost), significantly reduced battery life in cold weather, and I can take it to any local mechanic, who will be more than comfortable repairing the Rogue. But hey...if you have money to blow, go for it. BTW -the Rogue has had a rear wiper blade for many years now....lol

I had a chance to try Nissan Ariya, VW ID4 and hyundai ioniq. It's not even close - Nissan Arya far ahead! but the thing that I love the most - Nissan was doing next generation of the comftable cool car that happens to be EV. Ioniq for example is way too match "from future" that usability is pure pain.

All these EVs should switch to NACS (tesla) charging port standards in North America, like Ford and GM just did. Non-tesla charging infrastructure is non-reliable, so NACS would likely become the de-facto standard in NA. Once they switch they will become much more desirable to buy

ABS will never engage when using one-pedal driving. In winter, using excess regen is not recommended. I drive my Ioniq 5 EV the same as any other vehicle. Besides, passengers will hate it when you use one-pedal driving. The Ariya was delayed by one year due to the pandemic, it's technology is slightly behind now and you shouldn't pay a premium price for the "older" tech. Negotiate with the sales rep and don't pay above MSRP. There are better EVs out there.

This is their first electric SUV but Nissan has been building the Leaf for a long time. It's pricey especially on the top two trims for sure but it offers a beautiful interior for a non-luxury brand.

It's still my opinion that EV sales are gong to stall over the next couple years. The infrastructure just isn't there yet to relieve people's range anxiety. The US is still 5 to 10 years away from getting its' infrastructure act together. Until there is a charging station on every corner that there is a gas station, EV sales will hit a brick wall.

While might agree with you. Lets go back in time. When Diesel vehicles came out, they handed out a map of diesel stations to customer. Did diesel car sales stall? Electric: Ford just made a deal with Tesla to utilize their charging stations. Range isn't why people are hesitant about electric cars. It's PRICE. I’ve saved 10,000 litres of gasoline since buying my 2015 Leaf. You can charge the car in your garage with a level 2 charge. No oil changes, no service required, no gas stations. Once you try an electric… you won’t go back. They are just better.

Beautiful car but with the current prices of model Y you could get one for the same price/cheaper than a loaded Arya and still have more fun In my opinion. But if you wanna standout from the MANY teslas on the road…

Yes, but the Ariya is much more comfortable, and the interior is much more premium

@@jamespaul2587 I don't see the appeal in Tesla. It's like a moving stark workplace. The ride comfort isn't good in the Y. It can get noisy on certain roads where other cars aren't. There's a lot of space in it but it's not a premium feeling car.

@Benjamin Smith agreed, the tech and performance and efficiency in Teslas is leading edge however their exterior styling and plain interiors turn many away from the brand. It's great to see more variety finally coming to market

Thé price of ev should be for the blue collar family. Almost all ev’s start at $55k plus Canadian. Other countries can make it cheaper.

This is a nice car but it needs to be better to compete for the money. I’d still go for an Ioniq 5 Limited. I sat in one and tried all the buttons and I wasn’t impressed by the haptic climate controls or the haptic buttons on the steering wheel. I could live with all that, but at the price range of this car I need to love it. I thought it had a cheap feel overall.

Affordable EVs seems to be a distant future still. Another nice EV priced for the near wealthy. My family loves the idea of EV but we are now compromising with looking at some Hybrids.

Only if they allow the chinese automaker to import into the US, then you see a 40% reduction that becuase the chinese produce battery much cheaper. the toyota Bz4x selling in US for $45k, but same suv sell for $25K in CHina. The Ariya sell for $36K in china. Of course that may put US automaker out of business.
