As a 30 year old car guy, I can look back at my car history and clearly see how accurate this video is. As I've gotten older, I've gotten more 'efficient' and focus more on value over fun which is really sad to see. I started with my first car at 16 being a 300ZX, switched to an R34 Skyline at 19, moved to North America at 21 and made the sensible, practical choice of a Mazda3 hatch when restarting in a new country. I couldn't stand being a car guy without a car to be proud of so i picked up a 370Z at 25 and after a few winters with snow i made the change to a WRX STI at 29. Each 'upgrade' was carefully considered and I was always chasing the best bang for my buck but looking at it now, it was almost always the fun that was compromised in each transition for more function and utility. Getting older sucks because it's a necessity to think about the cost instead of chasing what we really want, fun.

Agree, but there's one HUGE factor Jason missed: traffic. The biggest reason enthusiast vehicles are changing is because the roads are clogged. There are fewer and fewer places to enjoy a pure sports car. A SUV (or a truck) is much better sitting in traffic or in the suburban grind. Even if you DO get out on a mountain road, chances are you'll quickly get stuck behind someone who won't pull over. Look at road traffic volume from the golden age of sports cars to now, and you'll see why there aren't many left.

Alright, I'll say it now: this is the best Icons episode. You guys have outdone yourselves. Kudos! Now on the subject of Icons, when are you doing an episode on Jaguar E-Type and it's successor F-Type? You've also touched upon SUVs taking over and also dubbed the Jag F-Pace SVR as the leading fun SUV, so an episode on the Range Rover next perhaps? It's an Icon in the same vein as the Nissan Z, I'd argue.

Great video as always but this one felt special to me. My first two cars in order were a 1979 280zx and a 1976 280z. I really like the new Z for many reason and nostalgia being a big one. However when it came down to buying my next sports car the Z didn’t make the cut. My 1979 280zx weighed in the ballpark of 2,800lbs so the new Z weighing 800lbs more just didn’t feel right. For me a sports car is not about power, it is more about the lack of weight. I set out and tested many sports cars, sport hatch, sport sedan and one came away a clear winner. Here is my list of cars I have driven while weighing my decision. 2017 Cayman 2.0L, 2021 Supra 3.0L, 2022 C8, 2019 Type R, 2015 STI, 2022 GR86, 2022 RF Miata, 2017 Camaro, 2015 Cayman GTS, 2009 Si, 2014 Si, 350z, 370z, g35, 2013 Miata, 2002 Miata, 2010 C6, 2015 Mustang, 2011 Mustang, 2005 Mustang, 2000 Mustang, 2002 Camaro, 2011 Camaro, 2012 Charger, 2017 86, 2009 Challenger, 2004 eclipse, 2019 model 3 performance, 2002 mr2, 2019 2.0L Accord, 2017 Accord sport, 2004 rsx, 2006 tsx, 2005 tl, 2013 frs, 2008 GS350, 2007 Lexus is250, 2010 Lexus is350, 2009 EVO, 2008 rx8, s2000, 2007 gti, and many more. The winner based on these criteria. Lightweight, affordable, front engine rwd, 2+2 configuration, fuel efficient, fun to drive, and looks beautiful. The choice was easy…. 2022 Neptune Blue GR86

The ending does hit when every other week you're told "this is how great a driving experience can be" and a few sentences later "here's why it's not gonna happen ever again" I hate this end of combustion engine crap because it's just a reminder that the best times are behind us if the electric future is what's waiting for us on the other side. Every single performance car is said to be the last pure one, the last M2 in particular has had its headlines be heavily thrown towards the "it's the last one" than "a new one is coming out" I can't be the only one tired of that. I hope the Z sells a bit so we have a few left to go around for 10 years down the line when the music's over. Currently, I'm just hoping the record doesn't stop...because it will.... ...and we can't seem to out run that.

The electric cars will never be the future and it is explained by the Rivian CEO “Put very simply, all the world’s cell production combined represents well under 10% of what we will need in 10 years,” Scaringe told reporters, according to the WSJ. “Meaning, 90% to 95% of the supply chain does not exist." That is why I don't buy all this "ICE engines will be gone" crap.

Petrospect - listen to me very very very carefully - Every time you spend money at big corporations that are WEF members = you're contributing to the problem. That's where all of this is coming from. It's just another scam, and the end result will be = > cost of driving with higher electric/utility costs to "fund upgrades" and with lithium scarcity, it's impossible for "everyone" to buy electric. So Here is what it's ACTUALLY about - Wealth transfer, using yet another existential "crisis" as an excuse. Their sales pitch is comical too: "You're all going to die!! unless you do _____"... and people fall for it!!!! I still see people wearing masks, yet, if you bring up that there's HUNDREDS of studies illustrating they're pointless = blank stares/you're ____ ist (whatever "ist" is "in" that week/ spin the wheel...). So as usual the winners will be: 1) Big DADDY Gov't (yes, all caps are needed!) 2) Big Corporations and to sociopathic loser "executives" that loves Federal Reserve funded stock buyback schemes and they'll game the ESG scoring model even MORE than their gov't/corporate insider trading games. Every single corporation rewards sociopaths, psychopaths, and narcissists. You'll never ever ever ever see someone "doing the right thing" move to the top of any organization. 3) It's one big game of Monopoly - everything you see/hear on the CORPORATE news media is all a distraction so, you're busy being "outraged" - the big corporations are busy hashing out who gets what in terms of resources left on the planet. The WEF is something you should really look into. The more you look into it, the more you'll start to make all of the connections, not only between corporations and big DADDY gov't (no, all caps NEVER gets old to me! haha), but also NGO's, the CDC, and WHO...... And for bonus points if you're not depressed enough: Look at the BIS (Bank of International settlements) and the IMF (International monetary fund). You see - most people won't read "new" information, as they have been TRAINED to have an attention span of 0.00001 seconds. That's what IG "Reelz" and TikTok are all about... turn humans into Pavlovian dopamine hamsters while the real sociopaths are 5-8 chess moves ahead. ** and no "Not all" executives are "sociopaths" but... listen... I can easily, much faster than most people in public can even imagine! see around the stupid smile, fake platitudes, excessive preposition use, and identify and connect real motives of most of them. They're simply sellouts with zero moral calling... this is why they invest MILLIONS in all these life extension ventures of various sorts.. it's an existential crisis when you sell your soul... There's PLENTY of oil, and YES, the climate IS "changing" but, it's always has been. I can easily debate both sides. The bottom line is that the top 0.0001% nolonger need a "working class" and they want the planet as their personal playground. That's why supply chains are being purposely crushed. They have to make as much marginal profit before the currency collapses and then they bring in the next scam fiat: Fedcoin/CBDC...
