Throttle House reminds me of Top Gear from the mid 2000s. Visually pleasing video production, humor thoughtfully mixed in, lap times, quirky hosts that each have their own distinct charisma. But what makes them so reminiscent of Clarkson, Hammond, and May is that they’re genuine friends hanging out, and we are there to hang with them by watching the videos
@PsychoCPU2 жыл бұрын
I think that's why all the versions of Top Gear since have missed the mark. The hosts aren't friends, even if they claim they are. You can tell there is a lack of connection, most things feel forced, which leads to jokes falling flat. Tomas and James, like the guys at savagegeese, are the spiritual successors to Top Gear without even meaning to, simply because they are real friends who are smart enough to not mess with a formula that works.

Great review. It seems like Nissan intentionally targeted a few specific things they need to make it sell en-masse to justify its existence to corporate. They know tuner guys will swap the exhaust and springs, so instead they went for more livable and quiet exhaust and ride. The power and stability and balance make it a great road car that you can wring out at legal-ish limits without wrapping it around a tree. The styling is cool, retro, and subtle. All of these things make the Z a much more attractive sell to a guy who may have grown up with the earlier Z line, doesn't want the hassle of owning a classic, but wants to daily a "fun" car that isn't boy-racer. Those are the people who will buy new high-end trims. However, Nissan also managed to keep a lot of the excitement, attention to detail, and character that make a sports car special At its lower price point trims, younger people can buy them and mod immediately. And over the years all of these will trickle down to "buyer #3" and become capable track cars. I think the thing is damn gorgeous and should sell well, and I can't wait to see them on the road.

My first car was a 79 280zx, followed by a 76 280z. I have been looking forward to this car because it looks like a proper Z. However most reviews say the same thing, its heavy, more of a gt, falls apart at the limit. So I bought a Neptune blue gr86 and it feels like the spiritual successor to my 79 280zx. Edit* as of 8-18-22 I have finally driven the new Z. Here are my thoughts. You can clearly see parts of different generation Z influences in its styling both inside and out. It’s fast but that’s a given. The suspension is softer than expected and if you want a GT car then this is your car. At 5’11 I would not be able to wear a helmet for track days so that’s a bummer as the seating position is really high even when the seat is in its lowest position. At its base price of $40k it’s a bargain but the example I drove was almost $54k and at that price the Supra sounds better and is quicker although I still don’t forgive the montage of fake vents. Plus in my opinion the new Z looks better but looks are subjective. At the end of the day I am just glad the new Z, Supra, BRZ, GR86, Miata, C8, Cayman, Mustang, and Camaro exist. The right answer is choose one, drive it and love it. I chose the GR86 which one did you get?

With that said, I'm having way too much fun with this car! She's a beauty and a beast! Power, 6 speed Tremac, handling, comfort, braking, etc. Fantastic! The performance exhaust is to die for, as is the rapid blue color. I love this car. Yes, it's that good! Contrary to the online haters out there, visibility hasn't been an issue. Raise the seat, adjust your mirrors, and learn to drive! I'm amused how so many think the visibility is vastly superior in a Challenger. Can't see much more out the rear window of a Challenger. The view over the long hood, especially with the "Shaker" package, isn't an improvement either. Regarding seating position, it's as if people think your supposed to drive with the seat in "gangsta" mode, dragging your ass on the pavement. With proper seat height adjustment, the side visibility isn't bad at all in a Camaro. Yeah, the Challenger's side view is a bit better, but not as much as the online "experts" claim. How do I know? I own a Challenger. Go Mango, shaker package, dynamic package with 275s, adjustable suspension, bumblebee stripes, etc. So you won't hear me bashing Challengers here (or any other make for that matter). A different beast for sure, but fun and enjoyable in it's own right. Handling is actually excellent for it's size and weight. The Camaro, however, is a true sports car and so enjoyable. A car I want to drive every day. Once again, you won't hear me bashing Mustangs, Chargers or Challengers. They're all great, and you can have fun with each of them, but the narrow mindedness and sheer ignorance surrounding the Camaro, particularly the 6th gen, is unbelievable. Their loss for sure. Doesn't matter for people who are buying Camaro as a sportscar, but it's not great for high volume 3.6 and 2.0T cars that people buy to daily with. Interesting having the V8 Vantage as your best steering. I've only ever driven one once and it didn't impress me at all in that regard, but it was on track with slicks so not representitive of the car in general. I was there to drift an NA MX-5 too so any steering feels vague after driving one of those! Porsche steering is also top notch, mostly. I've turned into such a steering snob lately though, trying to replace my 981CS and I've test driven about 15 cars...none had great steering at all. Some kind of ok, most poor. Trying a 540i xDrive was a mistake, I think they took the steering rack off the Titanic (after it sank). Luxobarge, but my old Lexus hybrid felt like a Lotus by comparison. Haven't driven a 370Z though, too old for my next car and the fuel cost meant I didn't even consider it over the porker, but I might have to have a go in one just to try that steering 🙂

I was going to say I don't like the BMW interior in the Supra, but then I mentioned the Evora which barely has an interior 😁 Basically I agree with you 100% but while I would place the Supra ahead of the Z, the Supra also wouldn't be top of my list. Thanks for the honest review. I am current rebuilding my 2003 BMW Z4 2.5 (manual 5 speed) and passing it on to my daughter ( She loves the manual transmission) and at the same time looking for a new ride. My priority has been finding a new car that has some power and a manual transmission. I had been looking at the new Z since it has some power, a manual 6 speed transmission and I owned a 280 Z when I was in my late 20's.....and I loved the car. I was disappointed during the review when you called attention to the grinding issue (going into 2nd gear) with new Z's 6 speed the transmission. I have been concerned that I would not find a decent car with a manual transmission before everything becomes Electric. Then I watched your review on the Lotus Emira, it is everything I have been looking for. Power (V6) with a 6 speed manual transmission and a style that makes it look like a Super Car for only twice what the Nissan Z would have cost me. Now the challenge is finding one in the Midwest. Thanks Guys!!!!!

I bought a 2022 Veloster N a month ago and I was getting a little buyers remorse for not waiting for this car… but now I feel like I made the right decision 👍

I was just thinking yesterday "I wonder when throttle house is going to do a review on the Nissan Z".. thank you for scratching that itch

Solid review. Can’t wait to see them on the road but I rather stick with my Supra. I’m loving that Camaro too, that’s a compelling argument you did for those on the fence about the new Z lol

For $50k a couple of used AMG come in my mind right away. Make no mistake at this point the repair prices of Nissan have come up pretty high so repair bills of the amg won't turn me away.

Its ugly asf too. No reason at all to buy the Z

Um no Mercedes parts are more expensive and unreliable than a Nissan

@@Fadz-zg6bt w204 c63 is not unreliable by any means. Just people not willing to maintain them. And u get much more in a w204 than what Z offers.

The 280ZXs and 300ZXs in the '80s were great looking, fairly quick, relatively softly sprung, well-equipped, dead-reliable, and comfortable -- and they sold like hotcakes. Those things were _everywhere,_ because they were just right as 'sports cars' for the vast majority of buyers. In that context, this car seems to nail it. People who buy 400Zs (we'll see how many) will probably be very happy with them.
