Great review! I just experienced this exact issue 2Weeks ago. I was set on a Macan S and was in the dealer ready to order. Just for shits and giggles I drove a cayenne platinum edition. The Cayenne just felt like more car in a different class. I was coming out of a Mercedes GLE53 that I loved. As much as I enjoyed the Macan the cayenne was incredible. It was so smooth, quiet and felt like so much more car. Both cars had significantly less equipment than my MB but the Cayenne was the perfect balance of luxury and sport. The difference was less than $100 a month on a lease. I think I would have loved both but I have no regrets when I get in my cayenne every day. I got the plus $5000 interior upgrade and this interior is stunning. I was worried about the tactic console getting damaged (which I also love) so I had a film applied like a screen cover on a cell phone. The tactic console and the gear shift are one of my favorite areas of this car and I’m disappointed that it was scrapped in 2024. This could make me a Porsche lifer.

I bought a 2022 Macan S and if you don’t need to haul around adults in the back seat the Macan is very enjoyable to drive. James review is slanted toward bigger is better. Not necessarily so.

You kind of immediately lose credibility, James, when you start off trying to highlight differences between the cars and point to the metal paddle shifters, metal door pulls, leather steering wheel of the Cayenne - all of which are identical on the Macan.

In all fairness, James is from America the land of big is better whereas I am in another country that’s not biased towards larger cars and the Macan comes out on top factoring PDK, driving experience and looks. Yes, the Macan looks better then the Cayenne but overall they can’t be compared. Cayenne for larger family SUV whereas Macan more like a large hot hatch

The Cayenne is NOT the better car. Yes it is a very nice, luxurious SUV, especially if you have a big family and need much space. But it’s more like a faster/better Range Rover. The Macan though is almost a sports car, a sports car that - in contrast to the 911 or the Cayman - offers enough space for weekend / road trips and a more comfortable seating position, and still manages to be so agile and dynamic. It’s much more PORSCHE. I’d always go for a Macan.

@@thomasjanssen9124 The Cayenne is not that much more bulkier than the Macan and still shifts, as well as being agile for the size. Cayenne is also available in hybrid allowing for improved fuel consumption compared to the Macan. The Macan for me is mainly targeted towards women drivers, which includes new mums. The Cayenne has more masculine traits compared to the Macan in my opinion.

Great video! Hard to find good comparisons on these. Just to add: The Cayenne back seats also slide and recline and can have ventilation, whereas the Macan's does not. The Macan has a PDK transmission like the legendary 911 that makes it so sporty where the Cayenne has a Tiptronic trans that allows it to do light off-roading and gives it pretty impressive towing ;,700lbs vs the Macan's 4,400.

The Macan is just so tiny and low, but, boy can it handle well, making it ultra fun to drive! If it were at least as big as my RX 350 (which wasn't big enough for me), I'd gladly buy it. The Cayenne hasn't made my radar because it's poorly rated on reliability and I can change my car every 3 years, but I don't want to have to because the car has issues, especially, when it wasn't cheap to begin with. I'm also a person who factors in cost of ownership and when the cars are unnecessarily complex, if you're stuck, not everyone can work on your car and get you back on the road; sometimes, you can't afford to stick around whereyou had car trouble.

Thats not even a fair comparison. The Macan in that video is the base of the base!. Small wheels, beige interior not alot of features, basically a car to say hey I drive a Porsche. You should Bring an S fully loaded or GTS with 21inch black wheels or red carmine exterior. Macan looks ugly in this video even though I love the Porsche Macan, but this video is funny. Cayenne looks ugly except for its space. Cayenne coupe way better in my opinion. Please when reviewing, needs to be fair not what you prefer.

Great review, I just bought a 23 Cayenne Platinum and I find the steering feel at higher speeds is quite light even in sport mode compared to my 2015 macan s, you're thoughts.

Great review! The question is whether you want a luxury SUV with a bit of sporty drive then Cayenne is the answer but then you have the choice of X5 M50i, GLE 53 AMG and SQ5 - the competition gets tough. But if you are looking for a high riding practical sports car then I believe Macan is the only choice. The only car wich come close is Stelvio but then you have quality issues.

Had a Cayenne then decided I'd like it to be more compact so bought a Macan. Put up with it for a year waiting for the new Cayenne in second half of 2022. Just got another Cayenne. Macan just feels like a toy when you've experienced a Cayenne!

Excellent review! You explained why I bought a 2023 Macan S with air suspension. 😊 One suggestion - I agree with your recommendation to get PPF to cover the center console. I took it one step further and got a matte finish (called “Stealth”) PPF on my Macan which eliminates the glare in addition to protecting against scratching, and minimizes fingerprints and dust visibility.

Unless you need that extra space in the back seat the Macan is by far the better choice. I prefer the gauge cluster and the shifter is more traditional. The Macan is also about 20k cheaper. The Macan S is the sweet spot. No real difference in performance from the top trim in real world testing.
