Man, I have been riding a long time, worked in a few bike shops and built or rebuilt probably a few hundred bikes. This is the best, most comprehensive bike build video I have ever seen.. Brilliant.

I appreciate how thorough you are with the assembly steps in bike builds. The devil's in the details and knowing those details saves a lot of problems and annoyance later (and trips to the shop).

Love the video and used it exclusively to build my Norton. Thank you! Quick question I'm really hoping you can take the time to answer for me : would you be able to measure the chainline with the front crankset? I've made some drivetrain changes and that measurement would be super helpful for me.
@northwestmountainbikeaddic68747 ай бұрын
Best way to adjust a caliper is loosening it and applying brake lever pressure and while holding your lever tighten the caliper bolts and then let go of the lever and you should be aligned perfectly, I have been using this method for years and it always works

Hey man thanks for this video! With no bike-building experience I was able to follow your instructions and get my Norton together without issues! I think getting no rub on the rotors and indexing the gears were the hardest part but I would have been lost without this! I initially thought it would be cheaper to KZbin and build myself vs drive to Anaheim and pay $80. That said - it was definitely not cheaper but I got to build the bike and learn all the different components with ease.

One thing about the Q-Loc suntour axle: when removing it, after pushing the small tabs closed on the side opposite to the lever, you can lock them in the closed position by turning them clockwise (and then you can unlock them by turning it counter clockwise), otherwise it will be almost impossible to remove the axle while the wheel is installed
@-T90Vladimir Жыл бұрын
Holy crap, thanks for the info! I didn't know this, and removing the wheel went mostly smoothly but did end up in furious axle-yanking many times... This makes it so much easier!
@dtolios Жыл бұрын
Correct. I came here to write this too. It is a very well thought system. Too bad it is exclusive to them. The titanium version found on higher end forks also weighs half the cheaper version too...not that an axle makes a huge difference, it is just impressive the first time you hold it if you've only handled the regular version.😂
@raulp202 Жыл бұрын
@@-T90Vladimir Ahaha I know, I have a similar fork, an XCR 34 Boost, and the first time I had to remove the axle I yanked it for a good 5 minutes before I accidentally locked it closed and realized how it works

I like that Poseidon is packing the rotors off. I know it adds a little work, but it makes one less thing to get damaged. I bought a Flatbar X for my son last summer, and the box was stove in, and the rear rotor bent.

Looks like it's a pretty nice frame and budget friendly build. I'm not surprised Poseidon did a 27.5 wheel size and not 29er for their first mtn bike offering? As for their gravel bikes I've always wondered why they don't have 142 drop-outs? At least this mtn bike has the Boost
@mandowebster8728 Жыл бұрын
The Redwood has 142mm drop out. It’s also the “true” gravel bike😮😂. The X is far too roadie, the ambition improved upon it and I think it’s got the dropouts too now. Also, there’s a conversion kit for the X which Poseidon sells.

I had first heard of Poseidon from watching Spindatt (Eric). Their gravel bike, the Redwood, is a great budget option from all I have seen and read. This HT seems to be a good foundation to start and slowly upgrade as needed.

@The Bike Sauce, I LOVE your tech content and science content which has even inspired me to take a look at becoming a possible mechanical engineering which will hopefully lead to starting my own mechanical bike research team at MSU as well maybe change current tech/concepts to be more sustainable. On the note of the video, for the headset preload, the best way to determine is by tightening it just enough to the point of where you can not move the headset spacers in a separate order from the fork/handlebars, another tip is to press the breaks while bending and maneuvering the break cable without crimping in during the process, this brakes in the cable for proper stretch without needing to adjust later on for the stretching that occurs after riding it for the beginning of having the bike. There are quite a bit more tips that I could give but don't want to make this too long to the point that you won't read it, so very much, please feel free to message me. Also I work at a bike shop in case you were wondering about my knowledge.

quick question. One Poseidon's website it says the Norton frame is setup for 180mm rotors but in this video there's an adaptor under the caliper, so does the full bike ship with 200 or 203mm rotors? Just asking because I have the frame arriving Monday and I currently have 180mm rotors with an adaptor on my current bike. i just wanted to know if I'm going to need those 20mm adaptors or if since I'm using 180mm rotors I can just attach the rear caliper straight to the post mounts?

I'd have preferred they saved some cost with a simpler paint job and added a bit to the price to spec a XCR fork. As it is, this is a hard sell compared to a Stoic 2
@tylercandler4627 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why they decided to spec this bike with the juintech brakes. The only reason people were putting those on the gravel bikes is that swapping to a full hydraulic brake meant you had to replace the entire groupset. These brake calipers are more expensive than entry level shimano full hydraulic brakes.

They probably don't have access. Poseidon have no relationship with Shimano for any of their bikes and Shimano is a Japanese company with all that such companies prioritize. They give favor to companies that have a relationship with them. Doesn't really matter though. No one is hitting anything more than blue/green with that fork

I always like when companies try to make a solid budget bike, but I've got some nitpicks. Overall it seems like a solid base. - should have a hollow bottom bracket, costs what? $10 more? I just think square taper is a pain and these cranks just look cheap. - xcr fork would probably be a little better, though I'd like to try this one out to see the differences. Possible this coil has a better ride quality, even if it is heavier. - plus I think it should come with pure hydraulic brakes, but I have heard good things about those juin techs from gravel riders
