Alongside Professor Dennis Lo, he played a pivotal role in creating non-invasive prenatal tests (NIPT) for Down syndrome and monogenic conditions, as well as early cancer detection.
In 2009, Professor Chan pioneered the use of digital PCR for the detection of EGFR mutations, revolutionizing diagnostic techniques. His contributions extend to over 150 patent families, and he earned a well-deserved spot in the Top 20 Translational Researchers by Nature Biotechnology in 2020.
