i am glad you guys have salmon to fish, our entire season in california is closed.

Yeah, that’s tough man, but we totally get what that’s like when one trouble spot closes things down. Plan a trip up here!

@@PNWBestLife you know the only thing with global warmer ocean waters is the tuna is now up to Monterey Bay Area so we can target other types of fish. But tuna gear is so expensive! 😂
@PNWBestLife Жыл бұрын
Haha so true! We got some weird species off our coast with the warmer water as well!

Thanks for the informative update. The issue comes in when the "co-managers" use the Stillaguamish fish as a constraining stock for MA-11 fishery when the river is 80 to 100 miles away from Minter Creek hatchery. They are using natural genetic diversity as an excuse to limit fishing opportunity in the south sound. Now, in addition to the returning stock restricting fishing opportunity, there are now artificially applied encounter limits on sub legal size fish being applied, as well as other encounter limits.
@PNWBestLife Жыл бұрын
The problem with this is that the Dept has a lot of coded wire tags of Stilly fish in MA11 particularly in the June fishery, so everyone collectively knows the impact. I would say the most disturbing things I've come across since getting involved is that we clip the stilly conservation hatchery fish, simply so Canada will do CWT recovery for us and that those clipped fish mortalities count against us... Mortality on unclipped released fish is 15% vs clipped fish is 100% so...yeah lots more fishing could get done by changing that one factor.

I was thinking about getting a shimano curado mgl 150 but i’m concerned that 150 yds of line isn’t enough. Thoughts? Do you need 200yds of line or could i get away with 150? Let me know please
@PNWBestLife Жыл бұрын
Where are you planning to fish? Fresh? Salt?
@evangibala7118 Жыл бұрын
@@PNWBestLife I currently live in virginia so i mainly fish for smallmouth or largemouth bass but occasionally will fish for striper in salt water. Next summer i will be living in the west and looking for something that will be able to handle salmon/steelhead. With all of that being said, i’m looking for an all around reel that would be able to handle all species.
@PNWBestLife Жыл бұрын
I mean, 150 could be plenty for small -> medium sized rivers or shallower water from a boat. You would probably be fine in most freshwater situations with that
@evangibala7118 Жыл бұрын
@@PNWBestLife I was thinking the same. I was reading how some bigger king salmons may peel 200+ yds of line and was slightly concerned that the 150 may be too small.
@PNWBestLife Жыл бұрын
While they can do that…it would take the right kind of water, like big water for that to be the case

back when i was a tadpole my folks had a house right on bear creek, i used to watch the kings fight, you'd occasionally see steelhead, they were like half torpedo half sea monster to a 5 year old. nothing lives in that creek now. As far as i know there are no more steelhead, coho, chinook, chum or pink salmon in Lake Washington tributaries. Native Cedar River sockeye were doing well when i checked last. The lake washington sockeye fry are flourishing now that all their natural predators are extinct
@PNWBestLife Жыл бұрын
So what you're saying is Lake WA sockeye have some potential in the future? Cause that would be dope!
@dirttdude Жыл бұрын
@@PNWBestLife Doubt it, the seasons in 1996, 2000, 02, 04, and 06, I had marvelous sockeye fishing experiences. I guess since 2006 there hasn't been any Lake Washington sockeye openings. You can get them in shilshole bay with a flasher and a bare red hook but coho has a much more desirable table quality.
@PNWBestLife Жыл бұрын
Maybe someday! Yeah, gotta love the taste of those coho.
