Nothing like discovering a lost or abandoned crab trap with your prop! The wire cage wraps around the prop and lower unit as well as does any remaining rope. Then you have to go overboard in icy cold water and wire cutters to remove it, hoping that it didn’t ruin your lower unit gears, or worse, when it stopped the engine suddenly and violently. Been there - done that!

Happy New year. I have to ask a question. I have never fished for steelheads. Is the time for steelhead fishing gone ? I saw online the season starts early December. Will the steelhead be still there in mid January? Thank You

@@thewildernessretreat01 the peak steelhead run for most rivers is in February and March, though lately a lot of rivers have been closed in March. There's plenty around in January too though. Each river has slightly different timing to its "run".

@@thewildernessretreat01 nope, plenty of information out there about what rivers get steelhead. Start by looking at the WDFW hatcheries which release/receive steelhead. It's a tough sport to break into because everyone's tight-lipped and you have to do a lot of legwork to figure out where they'll be and when (if you don't want to combat fish for them with 40 of your closest pals)

@@Graceclaw I am not quite hopeful about catching any steelhead. The number are so small compared to the number of salmon. My biggest struggle is getting the equipment's. I just have one reel and a rod and some lures. I was harvesting coho and the twitching jigs are so expensive. However, Walmart bass lures work. I was on a river people were doing their coho catching activities, however, believe me or not the 1-dollar bass lures worked wonders. I think I will try the Skykomish and something up. I am hoping to spend least money possible. One question I have if I want to catch king salmon in 2025 (harvesting) which are the best rivers, where I can catch legally from the bank. I do not have a boat. I do not need to know the spots as long as I can walk it will be fine. The main question is which river bodies will give me a good chance of catching king salmon may be in summer or fall.
