Bill, you might remember that I already commented to you a few days ago on your great marathon time. This is a hard course - and your finish time is fabulous. Yes, everyone talks about the hills up the bridges in the NYC Marathon, and the hills in Central Park. No one talks about the "real hills" in the NYC Marathon - there are many "upgrades" in Brooklyn, a long upgrade up First Avenue in Manhattan, and the long gradual uphill slog up from The Bronx to the entrance into Central Park. That uphill is not steep, but it is long and steady, and will zap any remaining strength out of a runner. Then most of the last mile is uphill. You come here to race in NYC, you've got hills !!!!! Well done.

Hope all goes well with your procedure. Congrats for a good time on a very tough course. I've never run NY, but have run Boston a few times, and it sounds like there are similarities. There are the known hills that you mentally prepare for, but the majority of the Boston course is very rolling also. Embrace your recovery time before kicking off your Boston training schedule.

There is much more downhill in Boston than in the NYC Marathon. NYC has a lot more uphill through the entire course, not just in one section like with Boston's Newton Hills.

Your audio recording at the start shut off just before the announcer called out my name, which he often does at local races. Fun! I am NOT fast - I was only in the Blue Start Wave 1 because I am in the group "Streakers / 15-Plus Runners" and they give us a start in Corral F, Wave 1, Blue Start. Also, they let our group hang out in the Coast Guard Gym at Ft. Wadsworth instead of hanging out on the dew-wet grass. So so so nice, and I could use a real restroom in the gym instead of a porta pottie!

@@oldmanvanrunning Thank you. You do see why it's a great privilege that they let us 15-Plus runners use the gym instead of the cold, wet grass! Cool perk. Also lifetime guaranteed entry. Wave 1 Blue Start, and a reception Friday before the race at Tavern on the Green. I'm so lucky to be in this group. [I used to be a member of three Frank Sinatra fan clubs - but this 15-Plus runners group is even more cool!]

Bill - Did you have your medical procedure? Did it come out well? Are you in pain? Does your doctor think you will fully recover and be able to train for Boston? Merry Christmas.
@oldmanvanrunning
@oldmanvanrunning Жыл бұрын
Hi, Cathy....Had surgery on November 13th, and was basically bedridden for twelve days. Did my first short walk on day thirteen. Since then, I have managed two walks (1 mile and 2 miles) on the treadmill and did a 2.5 mile Walk/Run on the treadmill today (1 mile walk and 1.5 mile easy jog). Recovery has been difficult, and the first two weeks were the most painful I have ever experienced. I am making good progress, however, and my surgeon gave me the green light to start running again based on my comfort level. Tomorrow will be three weeks since surgery, and today is four weeks since NYCM. Now that I am able to start exercising again, I'm confident I will be back to normal training within the next few weeks and will be able to train adequately for Boston....FYI.....I'm also running the NYC Half Marathon again (as a pre-Boston training run)....Merry Christmas to you as well 🙂
@cathynewyork7918
@cathynewyork7918 Жыл бұрын
@@oldmanvanrunning Bill, thank you for giving me this detailed update. I am glad to hear that your surgery was successful and that your doctor has cleared you for running again. That is good news. I enjoy your personality so much, so I am glad to hear you will soon be back to normal. Yes, you have a huge fitness base, so you will be back to your normal running workload fairly soon - but of course you know to NOT risk injury by doing too much too soon. I am also doing the NYC Half in 2024, so I hope to see you there. Please don't get injured by returning to running too soon. You are already IN Boston, so you don't need to get injured trying to qualify, so take it easy in your training. This will be my second Christmas as a New York City resident (former Los Angeles native) so I am excited to be here for Christmas. Pray for snow. Take care, get well. Thank you for your reply.

I am sorry your recovery has been difficult and that the first two weeks were the most painful you have ever experienced. I am sorry you suffered. Is that issue cured now ... or is it a condition that can come back and torment you again? Will you be okay from now on?

@@oldmanvanrunning Yep, all those hills in the NYC Half, which you so strongly "complained about" in your race video, should definitely give you a training boost for pushing yourself up Boston's famous Newton hills. Will you do any special training for the famous part of the course where the men runners briefly stop to get kisses from the girls at Wellesley College? LOL.

Hi Sir, I hope this message finds you well. Allow me to introduce myself - I’m Yvonne, and I work for an interactive company based in Taiwan. Currently, we are gearing up for an upcoming event featuring a sports brand in March. Our plan involves having participants wear the brand‘s newly released shoes and inviting them to run on a treadmill. Simultaneously, we aim to enhance their experience by playing first-person perspective videos to make them feel like they are participating in a real marathon. Recently, I came across one of your KZbin videos, which aligns perfectly with our event's theme. My colleagues and I firmly believe that your video would be a perfect fit for immersing our event attendees. If you're open to it, we would love to showcase one of your videos. We sincerely hope you'd grant us the authorization to use it. Thank you very much for considering our request, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
