I enjoy movies, but don't usually pay too much attention to movies I have no interest in. But my brother loves movies & learning about them. He tries to see all the oscar nominated movies before oscar awards night. Plus we e both vote for the National Film Registry list each year. Anyway, although I wont see it until it goes to Amazon, the film premiering at TIFF I am most looking forward to is a documentary called Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe. My mom, my brother & I all did at home, film each other, interviews as fans of the show & we shared some of our VHS tapes (with episodes of the show) with the filmmaker, so I'm curious if any of our footage will make it into the final cut.

(i posted this in another video, but this might be the right place. still dont know if ill be attending Venice) Now that the TIFF has revealed all of its lineup, here are my 10 most expected, the ones I'll surely attend: 1. Fingernails - i'm a sucker for Jessie Buckley and Riz Ahmed as they are some of the best actors around the block nowadays, and I'm quite sure it might be a magnetic couple on screen, maybe possibilities for the Acting Awards 2 - Lee - a World War II film with the superbs Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard might be a possible contender for Picture, Director and Actress/Supporting Actress, plus its their first time together on screen, and I don't remember much war films which revolve around female characters, so thats a plus 3 - Toll - i've been discovering brazilian movies in the past few years, love me some Bacurau, Mars One, and Charcoal, by Caroline Markowicz, and this is her second, and the fact that it is about gay conversion therapy might propel it into Foreign Film and even Picture and screenplay 4 - The Zone of Interest - one of the talks of the season (unfortunately I wasnt able to attend Cannes for personal reasons), and another possible candidate for Foreign Film and Picture, probably Cinematography also 5 - Anatomy of a Fall - speaking of Cannes, i'm also very hyped to see this Sandra Huller performance, it might be a contender for Foreign Film, Actress and Screenplay 6 - The Boy and the Heron - mister Miyazaki return that might be the upsetter of Spiderverse (which i think its quite good technically, but as of now I'm a supporter of Suzume instead). Probably guaranteed in Animation 7 - Monster - Hirokazu Kore Eda is a hit (Shoplifters) or miss (Broker) for me, but I love japanese films as much as I enjoy brazilian and south korean ones, so if this one works, it might be another possibility for Foreign Film 8 - Rustin - i'm expecting a lot from mister Colman Domingo (more here than in The Color Purple, which, by trailer, sounds like a dud of a film), and I need me a frontrunner for Best Actor, cause even though I adore Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer, and surely he will land a nomination, I'm not sold on a win (it lacked a little of grey nuance for me) 9 - Next Goal Wins - this might be the comeback we need from one of the best actors of the last decade, Michael Fassbender (lets never forget his Shame delivery). The fact that it has Elizabeth Moss on it sells me, and Waititi sense of humour might make this quite a fun watch for a Sunday afternoon (on the same lane, i'm not expected much of a performance of Air, which I have seen and find it just okay, and The Holdovers, and I love my Giamatti, but Payne never really works for me, but I might be wrong, so I'll give it a watch at TIFF) 10 - Nyad - Annette Bening might pull a Jamie Lee Curtis out of this one Very excited for these films, and almost as excited for your reviews on them, which are always much fun to watch

TIFF will have more announcements in the next two weeks. By my count, they haven’t programmed enough galas to fill all the slots they usually have. I’d expect a few more big, maybe Venice-bound titles, I think they’ve just been negotiating the strike situation.

Guys you both call yourselves experts on the Oscar but talking here about the new Friedkin film you were not sure of its origin saying you "think" it is based on a play. It is based on a very famous play which in turn was based on the very famous Pulitzer prize winning novel The Caine Mutiny which was made into a very famous Oscar nominated film in 1954 for which Bogart received his third nomination. You guys need to seriously brush up on Oscar films from the Golden era because there is a whole lot of stuff you are unaware of which every cinephile should have at the tip of their fingers. I don't think you explore enough films from the past. Change that.
