It looks like nothing else out there. To me, that's a good thing. I love the way the crown looks with monopaint. I just took delivery of my limited Crown, and I averaged 47.5 MPG on my first tank. The ride is extremely smooth and and so quiet inside. It has exceeded my expectations. Go test drive one and see yourself.

You have a point about the cruise control stalk. Toyota’s classic stalk was and is the best setup for CC ever implemented. It debuted all the way back in 1989 on the original LS400 and stuck around this long for good reason.
@faeinthebay
@faeinthebay Жыл бұрын
I think they ditched it to make their cars more conventional and easy to switch to. Most competitors, like Honda and Hyundai and GM, use steering wheel controls. I like Hyundai's controls and even though other brands have a slightly weird layout, it's still easier for me to switch compared to a stalk.
@drivedb7
@drivedb7 Жыл бұрын
@@faeinthebay- I assume they ditched it because it was becoming harder to incorporate radar cruise features with it. Whatever the reason, with it gone now, the steering wheel is a mess of buttons and using the system is more cumbersome. The old stalk was so easy that Ray Charles could figure out how to use it.

I’ve been driving mine for almost two months and I love it. I get constant questions and compliments about the looks, people really do like it. There’s more room inside than in my Camry and I get between 40 and 56 MPG on the freeway. The only complaints that I have are that there’s a bit of wind noise by the top of the driver’s door at about 65 and the wireless charger makes my phone get really hot, which is bad for the battery.

We used to the have the crown before but Toyota decided not to sell it in the us anymore for some reason. So Toyota decided to sell it in Japan and other countries if I’m not mistaken for couple of decades. When I heard that Toyota is bring the crown to the us is mind blown because I thought it was Japan exclusive only but i like it.

This new Crown is gorgeous. I've seen two on the road so far since October, and I got to say they look even better in person. The proportions are kind of funky at first, but when you actually see the car in person, everything just works so well. So many curves. You mentioned the JBL system being just okay, and that makes sense. I was really disappointed that they gave it an 800-watt system (like the Corolla, Prius, RAV4, etc.) instead of a 1200-watt system (like the Venza, Highlander, Tundra, etc.). I absolutely love the JBL system in my 2023 Venza and really expected a similar, or better, system in their new flagship sedan. It blows my husband’s ‘23 RAV4’s JBL out of the freakin’ water.

Chris, If your exercise in self restraint yielded 40 mpg, I am confident I could easily get 50 with this car.😉I really hope Toyota has not subverted the future of the Crown line in our market by reintroducing the name with such an 'unusual' model. The Crown sedan, CUV and especially the Estate were such fine looking and /or practical cars it will be a pity if we can't get them. Once the Camry offers Hybrid AWD, this Crown will be an even tougher sell. As every Crown is AWD, it would have made sense to offer a Trail mode with RWD bias like RAV4s etc.

I was hoping the Crown sedan would have a lot of ground clearance. 7" or so. But it doesn't. It has 5.8" while the Camry has 5.7".

I love how toyota made this sedan with a decent amount of ground clearance, unlike the slew of low slung belly scrapers from other brands that can't even clear a speed bump even with a single occupant! And they wonder why sedans aren't selling as family vehicles compared to SUVs. Today's sedans are longer and lower, makes it impractical for many roads, especially when loaded up with the family. Same goes for the wagons. I'm happy about toyota doing something different.

2023 Camry ground clearance: 5.7 in. 2023 Crown ground clearance: 5.8 inches. Not exactly a groundbreaking increase in clearance…
@dave_riots
@dave_riots Жыл бұрын
Most sedans aren't that low. My grandma's 2022 Corolla has an inch of ground clearance more over the 2014 Corolla she previously owned. This is more a problem with the roads rather than the vehicles themselves.

2023 Honda accord and civic ground clearance is 5.3in. 2023 Mazda 3 ground clearance is 5.5in. Like other users are saying... the ground clearance difference is pretty minimal
@dd4886
@dd4886 Жыл бұрын
@@dave_riots I agree that the roads aren't great. But the ground clearance has come down since the late 90s. A 19998 Toyota Carina Ti had a ground clearance of 6.1 inches. I still have that after 500,000+km, runs flawlessley and is more practical than almost all the modern sedans and even some crossovers. But yea, sensible and minimal front and back overhang plays a role in the practicality, i should have mentioned that

@@dannystl I had my trusty little Toyota Carina Ti 1998 with its 6.1 inch ground clearance in my mind when i wrote that. It has minimal overhang too (both front and back) and that definitely contributes to the practicality, i should have ,mentioned that as well.

i know what they're doing here, its for older folks who liked the Avalon but that car's sales were too bad so they lifted it to try and get that very narrow market of people who don't want a full SUV but still want higher ride height.

It's an interesting look, but not particularly graceful. This may be an odd opinion, but I think Toytoa should have made it a little bit bigger. This would be amazing with a 120-inch wheelbase. But maybe that would have put the Lexus ES out of business.

The previous gen crown in Japan looked so much better. I don't mind the styling of this current one (which is actually kinda cool they finally brought it to the US) but it honestly looks like an upscaled current-gen Corolla... Yeah you can argue thats kinda the point but I just like the previous gen look much better

Still find it weird to have this called a crown. Loved the classic boxy sedan the crown ever was (Hong Kong red Taxis), absolutely spacious and comfortable given their age. On a side note, how could the FC is lower on highway than city?
