If I’m honest started respecting you when you shared the fact of turning in that PRO because it’s too expensive! That’s humility!! And real and appreciated! As a former tech and shop manager you can’t go wrong with a Toyota. Money in the bank. Here’s my advice, coming from a fellow man, and husband. It’s our duty to protect and care for our families. And with the times getting wild, now more than ever we have to keep vigilant! We work hard for our money right? So my advise is to GET OUT OF DEBT!! The system has made us debt slaves! You can’t make big moves or shield yourself from life’s issues when covered up in debt! My wife and I have only a very small mortgage and that’s it. You wanna talk about feeedom. When everyone else is struggling with groceries we can go out for steak dinners if we want. We have an old Camry and an 05 sequoia. I’m a contractor and live on property. Believe me I need my truck back. Totaled my 2014 tundra in 2017. But not having the debt is awesome! If you must have a car payment keep or downsize that tundra to a sr5 hybrid if you can. And ditch the wife’s payment. The trucks are way more solid and hold up better and can be used for side hustles!! Scoop up an older Camry or if you need 4wd get her an older 4the gen or even 3rd gen 4Runner. Easy to fix up and work on. Life is changing fast and not in the favor of the working man! Please heed this. Get out of debt!! Hopefully in a couple years when prices drop and you have stacked cash by not having debt, you will pop out on the other side of the coming collapse and you’ll be fine and maybe buy something cash! God loves you and doesn’t want you a slave to the lender!!

I bought myself a new Tacoma. 2023. The one nobody seems to want. A 2023 extended cab. 2.7 liter 4 banger 4x4. It is not a power house. However, I did not buy it to go fast. I bought it too LAST. Not concerned with 0 to 60. I want 0 too hundreds of thousands of miles and years of reliable service. A tried and true package with a long history. A good history.

2022 limited double cab owner 4x4, non trd. 12,000 mi in, I'm very happy. -I've never had a wind nose issue. -The verdict is still out on the seats. I almost did not buy the truck because of the seats but I decided it was worth it. I still don't find them all that comfortable, but I don't hurt after a long trip so they must be doing something right. They are absolutely not as comfortable as my 21 F-150 was. - Yes, the back seat is small. If I had passengers routinely, I wouldn't have bought it. That being said, I don't, so it's perfect for me. I love that they include the underseat storage. For me, the six and a half footbed is worth it. Also the cost savings is nice. The back seats in my 21 F-150 were a few inches larger, but it wasn't night and day in my opinion. People complaining about the double cab seat space were going to go crew cab anyway. - My main complaint is the throttle lag. I know there is a TSB but my dealer won't perform it without determining that there's an actual problem first which is a bummer. It definitely takes a second or two to start moving from a rolling stop sometimes. It's super annoying. I've always had a pedal commander and I may get another one soon. It makes a world of difference on all my vehicles. -The power is really nice. It tows much more comfortably than my F-150. The ride is a lot smoother. I had 1100 lb in the bed and never had any squatting issue. I'm averaging right around 20 miles per gallon per tank. Not quite as good as the 3.5 l EcoBoost but still very good. The transmission is much smoother. I've never had an issue with any of the cameras. They're very helpful. Entertainment system has worked great. It will randomly disconnect and reconnect a few seconds later occasionally but that's about the only issue I've had. - I drive a lot of seasonal dirt and gravel roads and the traction control in two-wheel drive is quite impressive. I don't have the TRD package and I'm still on the stock wheels, and if this thing happens to start slipping it corrects very quickly. My F-150 had the FX4 package and I don't think the traction control worked quite as nicely. Four-wheel drive is very smooth. Overall it is a pleasure to drive. If it ends up having Toyota reliability and resale value, it really is the perfect truck.

My Dodge Ram 2500 is almost ready for a review. I bought it new in 2005....getting close to 19 years old. teaser: the rear wheel wells and gas tank straps are prone to rust out around year 15....more info to come...stay tuned. Folks, be careful with those power side mirrors. Once I was driving down a back road and another pickup was flying hogging the road. I nearly came to a stop and moved over as much as possible. They guy clipped my trailer tow mirror. Being a manual fold it just folded without damage. The guy had a power fold mirror and that thing was hanging in pieces. I just waved and said "I'm good here" and drove off.

Ordered a 2024 SR base double cab 6.5' bed 3 months ago. Came in on Dec 15. About $44k out the door. I couldn't believe all the features it has for a base. It will freaking drive its self down the road like a Tesla with the LTA and radar cruise control. It has so many features it's easier to list what it doesn't have. No heated seats, mirrors, or steering wheel. No electric seats, or self folding mirrors. No handling modes. No BSM. No 360 camera but does have backup camera which allows me to hook up trailers by myself. No tail light tailgate button but does have the one in the handle and on the key fob. It's detuned to 350HP but who cares? I'm coming from a Silverado 5.3 290HP. So far it is an awesome truck. Drives like a Cadillac and the double cab is the perfect size. We've had 4 adults in it and we just moved the front seats up a little bit and everyone is comfortable. I wanted an affordable truck that will hopefully last a long time and doesn't have 200 options, so I took the gamble with Tundra. I wan't a truck to go 250k miles. I have a friend that had a Sequoia that had 400k miles. To me the big 3 don't care about designing quality powertrains anymore or they just want their dealers to rob people on the service end. Who knows

The A/C should always be turned off before leaving a vehicle. An old mechanic told me this once. He said it leaves the A/C compressor in a "bind". When restarting it puts a strain on the compressor when the A/C is left on causing premature fail.
@Notaslave1961
@Notaslave1961 11 күн бұрын
Yes it depressurizes it so its best off with a/c about 30 seconds later turn off engine, reverse that process for start!
@westernapache1700
@westernapache1700 11 күн бұрын
The pressure equalizes throughout the system in just a few minutes after stopping. Even if the AC switch is on when starting the car, the compressor doesn’t kick on right away anyway. Doesn’t make any difference. Old mechanic wives tale. 😂
@rikjackson
@rikjackson 4 күн бұрын
False. Completely unnecessary. A/C pressure equalizes immediately when engine is turned off. Based on your logic there is no use having remote start. You would still need to go to the vehicle to turn on the A/C.

I think that overall the 6 1/2' bed is more useful than the back seat. Getting 6 1/2' bed in the Crew Max would make the truck too long. Just my humble opinion. You done good, so to speak.

IMO my 22’ SR5’s best feature is the power train far exceeds the cons. My two top cons, when you switch into reverse to line up the hitch the rear camera automatically appears on the screen, BUT I as continue to use the camera to line up the hitch immediately upon putting into forward the camera view of the hitch disappears. If the hitch camera view would just remain for 10 more seconds if would be awesome. Second con, wind noise/ drivers door shimmy noise.

On a recent trip, my rental was an SR5 crewmax. The power is fine. It made freeway merges with ease. I prefer the SR5 because I can’t stand the grill and the color matched surround makes it look a little less obnoxious. I still plan on going with a 24 Tacoma as it fits in my garage which is a necessity when you live where -30° is pretty normal in the winter.

nice yeah I am going to shoot for the sr5 tacoma for 2024 with the 6 speed too. What are you thinking is gonna be the msrp for somewhat base model? I tell myself I dont wanna pay more than 30k, but I can already feel in my bones the dealers are gonna gouge like a mother and raise every single trucks price like 10k above retail value

Lots of things you mentioned not what I've seen in my Tundra. 1. A/C is always on but I turn it off since I'm paranoid of starting the truck with it on. 2. I use remote start via the app. That function works well...but only when the app actually works. I'd say a huge con is, if you like using apps, the Toyota app is horrible. When I first downloaded and used it from the dealership, when I first picked up the Tundra it worked well. But after a few weeks the app would make me keep signing in but the next day I'd be signed out again. For a week or two, I got the alerts that the truck had something in the backseat or a window was down, that was nice, but then the app would be offline or just not working for the next several days. And I was updating the app everything I got an alert that there was an available update to it, but it never really improved. After a while I totally forgot about the app and didn't really miss it. The fact that the Tundra shuts off after opening the door makes the remote start feature a joke. 3. In terms of connected services, I just let the dealer set it all up and figured I would turn off the stuff I didn't like or didn't use, but I used everything, short of the remote start. But there are settings where you can turn off all the speed, hard Braking, other "bad driving" monitoring without an issue. I tested this out twice and it stopped tracking my driving style so you may want to try that again. Regarding your mention of Pros: 1. 14" media screen is a must have. I'll never buy another Tundra without it. I love it so much I'm having a hard time finding a car with a screen that big (not into Tesla) so that's a bummer, but screens will grow with time. 2. PVM - Panoramic 360 view is awesome. It's not a deal breaker but just to get used to driving this truck, having a ready guide with big screen to let you see how close you are to a curb while parking or driving thru the local drive-thru lane has proven to me its at the top of my list. 3. The SiriusXM radio set up and interface is incredible. I know most people don't like it or don't use it but driving back from the dealership I had several hours of the radio playing every single song I love was a great experience. With all the personalized settings with that program it was almost like there was built in A.I. that could predict every type of song/band I love. 4.

I had a double cab 2011 F150 v8 FX4. I now have the double cab 22 Tundra. - The Tundra has MUCH less space in the back in comparison to the F150. I miss the suicide doors from the F150. I miss the V8 from the F150. - With that said, the new Tundra has a fun driving experience. Hoping to have it forever. I had over 200k on my F150 5.0 with no issue, other than rust.

TY for the recent vids on new Tundras. U are def helping me with soon purchase. Damn Dealers still can’t get anything but 5.5ft beds😢. As for the A/C turning off, on another forum an Engineer said was more to avoid accessory drain/drag and unnecessary wear at startup of engine. FYI, Full electric accessories (PSteering, AC..) will change this.

Picked up my 2023 Tundra Limited Crewmax with TRD Offroad package 5.5 Bed a week ago. There's two cons I dont like but its more of a indifference feeling, is the truck doesn't stay on when I remote start it after I open the door, and there are no tow hooks for recovery point for the truck . With that said, I'm a first time truck owner and I now understand the appeal of trucks and I don't think I will go back to being low to the ground. Ordered my CBI Covert Bumper so I can have that cool bumper with tow hooks.

I have a 2023 DC Trd off road sr5 without all the premium options u have. While Tempe rear seat is smaller than the crewmax and gen 2 it’s still useable if u move the front seats up, at least for short distances. I’m 60 and my kids are grown and gone. The larger issue for me with the DC when I load larger things in the backseat, the smaller opening is noticeable (coming from my 04 extended cab hd 2500 with suicide doors). All in all I’m very happy with the DC, especially the 6.5’ bed. My truck msrp’d at $50,300, not a whole lot more than a Tacoma 4 door. I would by this truck all day long over the difference in price compared to the tacoma (and I love Tacomas). I wasn’t going to get a crewmax with a 6.5’ bed (to long), so this was really the only cab choice I wanted. I should’ve upgraded to the technology package to get the blindspot monitor and a few other goodies like larger mirrors, but I don’t want a sunroof, that’s for sure. It runs great, no issues (over 7k miles), no noise, cracking seat base, etc. I hope it runs as long as the previous generations.

Takes a lot of battery power to start cars with the AC on. Probably why they program it to shut down when the car is turned off. As for the must-connect in order to use certain features. I’m with you. I think that’s deceiving on the automaker’s part. They, in cooperation with the the government, want to be able to control how, where, what, and why you drive. I don’t use remote start, but if a vehicle has it, why should you have to connect in order to use it. Control and invasion of privacy.

Relatively new to your channel. Love your honesty about the price on that TRD Pro. As a Ford Raptor owner myself I appreciate the fit and finish from Toyota products including the Tundra. Also, I rarely have passengers in the back seats. At first I thought it was overkill getting the crew cab. I don’t have children but over the last year I’ve had more coworkers, friends and family in the back seats of my Raptor than in my previous Lexus SUV that I’ve owned for 7 years! Better to have it and not need it than need it but not have it.

The A/C being off at start should be common sense. The batterie's biggest demand needs are at starting the truck. You don't want your AC blower blowing when the truck isn't running right before it starts, doing so will dramatically decrease and destroy your engines battery life. Not to mention that big drop in voltage with the fan blowing gives a good chance of all the computers not booting correctly.

Previous truck was 2020 f150 with 10 speed coyote. Traded due to oil consumption. I plan on looking at the 2024 Trd pro once my truck is paid off. To see if the new stuff is worth it or install the Magnuson blower on my 5.7. Be easier to spend $10,000 to have 540 hp and 540 lb ft than $70,000+ for a new one. Love the insight! I am driving a 14 TRD, DC, SR-5, and tried to buy a 2022 when they first came out. Due to supply chain issues I was never able to find a TRD Sport DC, in black anywhere and eventually gave up. now I am quite interested in the 2024 Tacoma. I have been driving Toyota Tundras since 2005 so this will be a big adjustment. The two things that have me seriously looking at the Tacoma are price AND it seems that the new Tacoma is poised to really leap frog the competition with all the improvements that have been made. I have owned three brand new Tundras and none had class leading specifications or features. It does seem that the new Tacoma got a lot more R&D dollars than the new Tundra, hard to believe they were both designed in the same facilities.

I’ve had 9 Tundras since 2001, all but 2 have been Dbl Cabs….I need a truck to be a truck. The longer bed is a must for my purposes. Loved the roll down back window but not as much as the convenience of the larger bed. I don’t understand why Toyota made the new Dbl Cab so much smaller in the back. My ‘18’s has way more room than a new one.

My sister was able to snag a 2023 SR crewmax for 39,500. It’s honestly shocking how good of a truck the base model is. You get everything you could ever want in a truck. Power windows and locks. Wireless car play. Push button start.Huge interior space over the doublecab. It came with the tow package. For under 40k she got a TON OF TRUCK. And honestly I don’t think I could ever pay more knowing the SR trim exists…. Everyone upgrades their trucks anyways so it makes way more sense to start at a lower trim level. She can pick out better wheels and tires . Choose her own steps. Ect..

Love your “frugality”. We need more of this. Companies (of any kind) amp up items to appeal to our wants and desires. Is it evil to have our wants? Nope. Our wants can’t have us.

You should always turn the AC off before you shut the truck off , unless you like buying compressors, same thing with the defroster, and don't run the fan on high for extended periods, this isn't just for Toyota but all brands

It wouldn't be so bad if the back seats would at least lay flat and give a usable surface like the Tacoma. Just traded my Tacoma for a Tundra and that's what I miss the most.

I have more stuff than I do friends, so I'll take the extra bed space over the extra cab space any day. So if you don't pay for the Toyota monthly service your remote start won't work? Is there not a button on the key fob? Thanks!

There should be an AC/Auto On setting for the truck. They have it in the 2022 and it's located in the truck settings itself. They had it in the 2022 models, not sure if they would have taken it out.

I saw you mention the AC turning off after shutting down the truck. I guess it’s a matter of preference. When I turn my truck off I try to remember to also turn off my AC. IMO I think it causes more stress on the engine to start it as it’s also trying to turn the AC over as well. I’m not sure it matters, but I think I the less stress on starting the better. 🤷🏼‍♂️

If you use the "Auto" button, you don't have to worry about this - just set the temperature that you prefer and either the A/C or Heat will come on to adjust the cabin to that temperature - and the Auto stays on when you get back into the truck.

I agree. I don't like the initial start each morning to have the added stress of the AC, or the juice starting the engine causing my AC to go out. I know people will say we're paranoid but I recall ky dad doing the same thing after he had an AC go out when he started his car one morning.

Thinking my next truck will be a Tundra. Have owned 3 Ram 1500 's now and they have been great trucks honestly have given me no issues. I've always liked Toyotas and my dad always had one growing up but they've always been so pricey. The North American trucks have caught up now price wise but my main gripe is I can't decide if I like the looks of these Tundras, some trims etc. look good and some I think are a bit ugly. Hopefully by the time I'm ready the styling is a bit different. I think they look ALOT better with upgraded tire and wheel packages. Stock I just don't like them that much.

In my 2023 Toyota Tundra, if I have the Auto button selected on my a/c, and I have a temperature selected to a cooler setting, the a/c is on no matter if the a/c button is off. I am not sure if that is different in other trucks. I have a 2023 Tundra Limited with rear air suspension.

I was always told to turn off the A/C before shutting off the vehicle because when you start the vehicle the starter would have to spin the compressor causing extra strain on the starter. I don't know how much truth there is to that but it's a habit I've drilled into my wife's head also.

You mention that the AC doesn't automatically turn back on when you turn the truck on. Does that means when you use the remote start, the AC/heat aren't automatically starting at the same time? Kinda defeats the purpose in either extreme weather, right?

Just my opinion, but I think instead of a high optioned sr5, consider getting a lower optioned limited. Pricing is similar but depreciation will be less on a limited then an sr5 even though they have a similar msrp

Great video, appreciate your honesty, and pros and cons we all are wondering. I was debating between an SR5 double cab and Crewmax, but the double cab back seat is a joke. Why not give 6-12” More of leg room, it’s basically unusable as you stated. I’d like to have the 6.5 bed, but don’t want a 6.5 crewmax, it’s too long. I think Toyota screwed this one up, how about a 6ft bed with a slight larger back seat, this is like the happy medium that would be acceptable. Dealers have a lot more SR5 double cabs than crewmax models, and finding one with the options you have is even rarer (large screen, sport seats, etc.) I want an SR5 Crewmax (no hybrid) TRD Off Road with the large screen and sport seats (black not light grey). This seems like the ideal combo, and yet nobody has this combo, especially not with the large info. Screen….c’mon dealers, get your shit together when ordering these trucks, it’s not rocket science. Not all customers want to spend $65k, they want an under $60k truck with the key options, this is probably the cut off for many buyers, and even at $60,000 this truck is overpriced, we all know it….

The 2023 Tundra limited crewmax with 6.5 bed could have been your ticket. I'm personally not a fan of all the tech. I had a 2011 SR5 crewmax and with a sunroof loved it , I didn't want to give up the V8. that beening said I now have a 2023 1794 hybrid saddle tan , I have gotten use to the tech but I can turn off thing I don't like to live with., but I still have the option to turn them on.. and yes I drive with all the windows open calling it the (full effect). but with not haveing the crewmax you are lock in

If you keep the climate control on Auto, and set a target temp, it will keep the AC on if it’s above that temp in the cab when you start the truck… this is an assumption based on all the other Toyota/Lexus vehicles I have/have had. Try that and see.
