They actually have the same fuel and ignition tune. The difference is ride by wire restrictions put on the R. Basically, imagine like it is always in a slight rain mode. Ride by wire is how you get Rain, Road, Sport, etc... You twist the throttle a certain %, and the ECU reads that, and decides how much throttle to actually give you, based on the ride mode and those tables. The RS delivers full power in Sport mode, while the R holds back a bit. That's the only difference in the tuning, and that's why the RS makes 10hp more up top. You can very easily use TuneECU and an Android device to go in and put the RS throttle tables into the R bike's map, and that will unlock the R to deliver the full top end power of the RS. It's actually really easy to do, have done it many times... So if you don't need the higher spec suspension or better dash, go with the R model and unlock it to get the full RS power profile.

All done when out of warranty of course 🙂
@SquireSCA
@SquireSCA Жыл бұрын
@@trevorphillips3055 Of course. haha What's cool about it, is that the dealer can see how many times the ECU has been written to, and what map is in there... but it can't see what changes were made. So unless your dealer is tracking every ECU upload and counting, they wouldn't even know that you made the change. TuneECU lets you go in and make changes to the base map, and all the dealer can see is that the map number matches what is supposed to be in there... So I wouldn't worry about it. My 2022 Speed Twin 1200 was tuned, X-pipe, mufflers, air filter, Ohlins shocks, K-Tech forks, Steering damper, etc... Had a ring land break off and took out a valved and fractured the piston at 120mph... Warranty covered the rebuild with 2 new pistons, cylinders, head and all new valves... Unless your dealer is a knob, you editing your ETV3 table to unrestrict it, won't impact your warranty...

Sounds like you know what you're doing with tune ecu, I have a copy but have never used it. Dealer tool though I have used, I used to home service my street 675r.
@SquireSCA
@SquireSCA Жыл бұрын
@@trevorphillips3055 Dealer Tool is good for resets and diagnostics, but if you want to go in and disable O2 and SAI... If you want to remap all the fuel tables on a dyno, ignition tables, raise the rev limiter, get rid of the top speed limiter, and go in and remap your throttle for each ride mode, you need TuneECU for that. I have lots of tutorials and stuff on my channel. It's actually easier than most people think. On the Street R... you twist the throttle in Sport mode and it delivers 100% throttle, but only until like 8000rpm or so, and then it cuts back to 81% I think. So you can keep the throttle pinned all the way to redline, but the ECU says, "nope, you are only getting 81%"... The RS, gets 100% till redline. That's why the R makes less power. It's capable of the same power, but they wanted to create two different power profiles at two different price points. Its cheaper for them to have one motor, one assembly line, one set of parts and tooling, and just do the rest in software...

I test rode both on Saturday starting with the R, then a yellow RS. I'd had my heart set on a red RS but changed my mind after seeing the yellow and put a deposit down. Whilst the r is nice enough, the rs has a more premium feel and the ride is plusher too. This will be my first ever brand new bike so was another factor in deciding, just as well treat myself to the rs if I'm going to get one. 😊

I absolutely love that Cosmic Yellow and the Carnival Red is stunning like Mazda’s Soul Red Crystal or their new Artisan Red on the CX-90. Alas, I will probably go for the R. Even the base 675 years ago was a fantastic bike to ride with non-adjustable suspension. I don’t really love the new Triumph TFT themes unless it’s on the larger Tiger display. Ari from Revzilla said it’s the worst TFT display he’s ever experienced in terms of legibility. I’m totally happy with the R display and specs if not the color choices.

I think this kind of informative video suit your style much better. Your recent reviews were kind of “safe” let’s call it - almost like reading a sales brochure. I could not feel anything which gave me an indication what the bike is like - unlike 44 teeth after which I was really starting to want to get on this bike. As for the bikes I’d pick an RS at this price difference and for the colours (triumph… finally!!!) - though I do like the R tft screen more. They both do have way too much stickers though. I think in general it’s an improvement in looks department but this “refining” starts to get a bit too long in the tooth and looks like a car after the 5th facelift when usually the first one had already ruined the initial concept.

There will always be halo bikes that filter down their tech to their line of bikes. One bike not necessarily better but what pulls on your heart strings. Yes 100%! The engine in the mt09 is more punchy down low but the triumph engine has a beautiful note and revs higher. It also is more sporty where the mt has a more upright adventure bike riding position. I had a 09 and regret selling my RS. I would choose the Street RS if I could only have one bike the rest of my life.

These are built in Thailand, while the 09 is built in Japan. Nuff said.

@@tarnishedsquid2967 what's your point? It's well known and accepted that the MTs use cheaper parts than bikes like the street triple (other than the engine). I'm not saying the MT09 is bad, just that most areas of the bike will feel and look less premium

The silver looks fine in the flesh, so much so that's what I went for. Hopefully I'll get the call soon to say I can collect. I'm happy with what I saved opting for the R. It has allowed me to add the genuine Triumph accessories I wanted plus I'll be able to stick a quality exhaust on straight away too.

Love the street triple but both work better on the track than many other machines in this price range that are more road suited. Also both spoilt by a rubbish dash. The R one looks very fisher price and toy like and the TFT on the RS is the same rubbish TFT fitted to last years bike. Back in 2017 both the R and RS had the same much nicer TFT with a proper rev counter. Sadly dropped on both in 2020 🙁

Not any more. The RS is better at everything. The R used to have more power down down prior to 2020, because it has a different cam and tune and had more midrange at the expense of top end power. Not any more. The R and the RS have the same motor and tune, all that's different is the R has an electronic governor on it to limit top end power. The RS has all the low down and midrange grunt of the R, plus it also has more top end power.

@@robertbieganski8143 Its the same bike with different accessories, but has same position, etc... The Moto2 has a more aggressive seating position, not the regular RS The RS has better suspension, and some other tidbits that work better on track and the road. The dash is subjective.

Good job Bob 👍 i think 99% of the future owners will prefer the RS, not for her performances, but just for her gorgeous Red and cosmic yellow, and also for the dash 😊, not for the ER6 dash of the R version 🤔

Ah well this is an easy dilemma to answer. You should buy neither until Triumph understands that a warranty has to be honoured. There are other brands that honour their warranties as they should. Maybe take a look at them first.

Everybody here knows go for the RS. People want to know RS vs MT09, 890 duke R, ducati monster. That is the question.
@tubejorrit
@tubejorrit Жыл бұрын
Monster doesn't have enough horse power to compete, the MT09 has a great engine but the seating position, suspension, brakes and lack of advanced electronics make it an inferior bike on track. The KTM and Triumph were designed for the track, its hard to choose between those two.

Try doing a knee down on the MT, or better yet put both bikes on a track and see who has more fun. The brakes on the MT are also far inferior compared to the the triumph ones (Yamaha still deliver their bikes with rubber brake lines) or suspension. The engine for the 09 might be better for road riding but Yamaha also puts a speed limiter on the MT09 (max 220km/h) and yes, I owned both bikes....
@DB-sd3cw
@DB-sd3cw Жыл бұрын
@tubejorrit it's extremely easy getting a knee down on even the previous gen MT-09. Also the brake lines are irrelevant since any serious rider throws on braided lines anyways. The limiter is also easy to remove with an ecu flash which you need to do if you get an exhaust anways. The MT-09 is cheaper with almost as much power and more torque with a much lower stressed engine, more comfortable, more reliable, it's just a no-brainer which is the better buy. The street triple does look better though I'll give you that.

@@DB-sd3cw ah yes so all the Street RS reviews where they are raving about that it's best in class and whatever are not relevant and the press is payed to make 100% positive reviews. I had an mt-09, it needed new fork cartridges, a new rear shock to make it even bearable to ride and the pegs were dragging in everyone corner because they were too low. If I wanted to do a kneedown I had to lean off the bike like a monkey. It was a great wheelie bike/road bike but for me it was just not as good as the Street on track and fast canyon riding.
