I think it depends on the ages of the family as well. A young family would struggle, because 3 car seats take a lot of space in any car. A family with a bigger age gap between kids, with maybe only one car seat would be ideal. For your type of family, this car would probably make a lot more sense when the last one is close or reaches their early teens. At which point you would keep it for 10 years, and then downsize as they would then be off to college and you won't need such a big car anymore. I don't think it would be good as one of those cars you replace every two years (unless you have benefit in kind and tax breaks, since this is a PHEV), if you are not a company car driver, this would be a huge investment for at least 10 to 15 years I would think.

Good review as always. I currently drive the XC90 on lease (all gas version) and I like this vehicle. I always keep the security features on and have found them really helpful. However, the issues you highlighted seem to be a serious flaw, if it turns out to be more than just with the unit you reviewed. As for the price, once my current lease is up, I will look most likely look elsewhere. While I like this vehicle, CDN1,100 per month is quite a lot of money.

There is a physical button for defogging the windshield (next to the volume knob), so that you don't have to fiddle with the climate control when you are driving.

Kirk, I see that this XC90 is quite small for YOUR NEEDS (with Casey and your 4 girls not enough room for groceries ☹). Someone else (the other couple) did uploaded this morning (after embargo, I suppose) BOTH Mazda CX-90s reviews (both outputs of T-I6 and the single PHEV I4). It looks it might not be roomy enough on the back (NOT class-leading) for groceries with all 3 rows up although it has plenty of oomph, even the PHEV, and you may actually like the ride once you get it for review. But it feels because of the lack of room out back (only +1-2" on most real estate numbers above the CX-9) you will have to gun for a new HSD Sienna (hope for a Hybrid Max in the next few years) for your family driver.

My 2017 Inscription Pro, 11.4KWh Battery has now done over 100k Miles. We travelled with it across Europe 3 summers in a row as far down as Morocco as cool as you like. my kids still prefer their school drop off/pick up on it as opposed to their mums' VW ID3 (which I love to drive) or my brothers' Tesla Model Y. The Sublime ride, the Space for everyone and the sound system are a class act . If only it can have a larger battery pack, rear seats massaging and entertainment controls from the rear seats ah and the sun roof extended farther a back for the 3rd row then none of us would want to miss the ride.

One major compromise is their movement away from real leather, they claim they won't have any real leather in their cars by 2023 It just shows them cheaping out and indirectly attacking the food chain, it's a nice car otherwise though.

I think one of the reasons the engine cover is made of soft material is for pedestrian safety should someone get hit by the vehicle, less head trauma. I think that’s what I read a while back.

Volvo is not a Chinese car. It's a Swedish designed, engineered line of vehicles. They are headquartered and managed in Sweden.
