2023 ZERO DSR/X OFFROAD TEST RIDE by KTM 1290 Super Adventure R Rider // POV Unscripted Impressions!

Exploring off-road terrain on a 23,000 Euro electric motorcycle is a rare opportunity for anyone who isn't a professional bike reviewer. Luckily, I had a chance to ride a couple of rounds with Zero's first adventure motorcycle at the Enduro Action Team during the FEAR Event in May 2023. In this video, I share my spontaneous and unscripted impressions while test riding the Zero DSR/X in moderate off-road conditions.
While this isn't a comprehensive review, the footage captures the essence of my experience with the Zero. To provide context, I'll be drawing comparisons between the Zero and my 2022 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, as well as the BMW R 1250 GS and Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin DCT. This adventure marks my first time riding an electric motorcycle, and I'm excited to share the thrills and challenges of this electrifying off-road escapade.

Great review, thank you! I have about 8,000 miles (12.800km) on my Zero DSR/X now. Riding mostly in the western USA. This bike is ideal for back road and offroad adventures. I regularly get 150 - 200 miles (240 - 320km) riding this way. It is not good for long distance high speed highway rides because the range is not great for those rides. I have owned many types of motorcycles and this is by far my favorite bike. TC can be turned off and there are many custom ride modes you can create.

I rode both the Zero and Energica. If you don’t do much offroad riding the Energica Experia is a way better option. More refined motor, good battery management system and support CCS fast charging.

I would love to try other electric motorcycles and to see how battery tech will improve for better range

Thank you for testing the DSR/X. I´m driving this bike since April 2023 and got 13.000km on it now, and loving it. Did you test the Offroad mode? TC allows much more wheel spin. I´m using it on every offroad section. Did an offroad training in Hechlingen few weeks ago and the BMW GS 1300 drivers in our advanced group were very astonished how well the DSR/X performs. The consumption during the whole day was only 33% (about 4,5kWh) of my 17,3 kWh battery (15,6 kWh available) driving distance was 65km, the GS took about 4,5 to 5l of fuel for the same distance. Thank you for sharing your experience as an actual owner of this bike 😉 the bike was in off-road mode but the TC was still active- I did not have the chance to really test out all the driving modes. Is the Zero your only bike or do we have others as well? What is your experience on longer tours with regards to charging? All the best Oliver

Think the bubble has already burst for electric bikes. According to MCN this week sales have plummeted and well known names are filing for bankruptcy. Low range, long charging time, high cost and massive depreciation are the death knoll.

The EV industry is going through a rough time right now but I think it will catch on eventually- for bikes this will like take longer. For the riding I do an electric bike would not be a good fit. However, if I had an easier way to charge a car (I live in the city) I would consider an EV

Nobody wants these things. I'll never see one on any trail. The range is crap. Zero is a company that isn't profitable, has gone through several rounds of venture capital, incentives from state and local gov'ts etc. They're now heavily discounted and dealers can't sell them. Gas is king and has been working really well for a century. Don't be a dope riding one of these, it'll be another example of your poor life choices.

@@ownyourworld the quality of the ride was a pleasant surprise for me - the relatively short range the biggest limitation for the kind of riding I do. However, this is still relatively new tech and with increasing innovations in the EV sector we will likely see improvements in the coming years.
