On the COG: When I converted the Kawasaki Ninja to electric I first fitted all the cells into a box which was using the original motor mounts and the V shaped fairing space. Hight wise the box ended in the hollowed out tank space. The bike was top/front heavy and unpleasant to ride. I then cut the motor mounts off, which moved a new box 70mm to the rear. I also cut the fairing's keel in half and fitted a spacer at the bottom. Now I could place more cells at the bottom and the new box did not reach into the tank space anymore. I though ah well, a few mm here a few there.....but the difference in handling was simply AMAZING. Installed progressive springs front and adjustable shock at rear and despite of the heavier hub motor (+11kg on the rear wheel) and +30Kg overall it was more comfortable and rideable than before. Nice side effect: The wider fairing keeps the feet dry. Interesting to see that on the Energica you noticed the same effect ( minus the dry feet :).

@@pandaexpresso Yes. I discussed with the manufacturer a 12kW liquid cooled hub motor and they offered me a prototype. But it was 53Kg and I declined. However the Aptera, Lightyear 0 and Lourdsdon (?) pick-up all use hub motors and I believe the hub is the future perhaps with conventional brakes eleminated using regen only.

Well, it seems to be the best one so far. Interesting to drop the charger cooling fan, it should mean they have the thermal cutback issue solved. Only nit pick for me is the windscreen's blacked out section. I'm sure the camera angle comes into play but I'd want it all clear or lightly smoked. The "possible AC charging expandable capacity" seems like a hint of some sort. Thanks for sharing, and yes the fact that yall own Energicas adds a lot to the review. I didn't hear a single goofy laugh and "oh man I went for the clutch again" which is mandatory with gas riders reviewing electric bikes.
@NewZeroland2 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah I cringe every time I hear that now. How long have electric motorcycles existed, and people still haven't tried them?? The windscreen is adjustable actually.. you pull that black bar on it. I wish I had video of it, but everything happened so quick at the event. The liquid cooled charging was sweet. No official word about an upgrade, but they said it was hypothetically possible in the future, so I feel like it was planned for it.

But I really want to see what the back to back charging is like. One would hope this won’t be an issue as it’s being touted as a proper touring bike

@@NewZeroland yep! Supposed to be here in august for demos at dealers. Really cool that energica flew y’all out there to check them out. More usable info in this vid than in others that have been released from the same event. Eventually the range discussion will not be an issue if the infrastructure gets built out. I wonder if/when the mpkW (miles per kW) will be more important than how far it a vehicle travels. However that won’t be important until there are just as many CCS as there are gas stations.

This is the video I wanted to watch most after your one year ownership video of your first Energica. All very positive except the same mistake most of the world makes. If I turn on the radio for any program that might be interesting or informative I've noticed that the more the sound effects and the more intrusive the music, the program actually has less content. Hence the rap inspired backgrounds, the emotional input when the story line needs to develop and on and on. It grabs attention and actually raises tension in the listener which is the intent of the producers of B grade radio. Your videos do not need this. Your work is good enough. Other than that a superb video with the content I needed.
@NewZeroland2 жыл бұрын
How many videos of mine have you seen? 😂 I hate to burst your bubble, but most of them are like this. Usually there are more memes. This "half real time riding review and half narrated information with close ups of the bike" is the only way to do it when the test ride is rushed and we learn more info about the bike afterwards. Anyway the Experia really impressed us all. Whenever you get a chance, definitely take it for a test ride!
@darraughwooton72902 жыл бұрын
@@NewZeroland So I did not make it clear enough. I love the videos I've seen, very informative and well done. My only complaint is the background "music". Where I once worked some employees wanted to bring in their music boxes. But the owner said only ear buds and only if there is no interference with concentration. Because not everyone enjoys the same music and we did work that took a lot of concentration. To point out if it was not obvious, the only complaint I could muster about your video is the same that everyone else seems intent on making, adding something that is not necessary. Like the vids of say a Ducati Pan on the race track. Who would add Mozart or Michael Jackson to enhance their video? As I stated before it is the norm in the industry and I've noticed that the less informative the program, the more some emotional input is necessary. Yours was very quiet compared to some others. Perhaps I should just buy the bike and stay off line. You did push me closer to a purchase, especially with your praise of the company and their parts and service video policy but I do hope they don't pipe in an alto butchering Puccini.
@NewZeroland2 жыл бұрын
@@darraughwooton7290 haha yeah I totally understand. Music makes it more interesting and adds production value, but the wrong music can kill it for some people. I'll keep this in mind for our next trackday video. If I can record anything more than wind noise, I'll upload a whole lap of raw audio to share the true experience.

This is great. Was smiling the whole video. I'm happy for you two. For a long time, I was really looking forward to buying or building a sportbike or sport-touring. But bad roads and certain realizations, is what got me into off-roading, Dual-Sports, and midsize or smaller ADV bikes. I would still rather build an AWD bike with hub motors, but this was still very pleasant to watch. Thank you two, and Energica.
@NewZeroland2 жыл бұрын
Cheers! Thanks for watching. For slow speed stuff hub motors are great, but I'm not sure how they'd handle off-road. A hard hit on the wheel might damage the motor.
@observingrogue76522 жыл бұрын
@@NewZeroland Because of FortNine's video on the Yamaha TW200, and to protect my hubmotors, I've decided on using fat tire, wide rim hubmotors. Wide tire bikes have to lean a lot, to counter the centrifugal forces of cornering, but having a high center of gravity, means you don't have to lean as much. I learned that from MikeOnBikes video on motorcycle geometry, and Ari Henning's video about why some bikes have wide tires. I'm already purposely mounting batteries high, for a high center of gravity, so they change direction like a fighter jet, amplify the load transfer on the tires under acceleration & braking for grip, and hopefully, counteract the weight & width of the hub motors.

Fun video, as always. Of course you did not make my life easier, but luckily nobody can buy an Experia next week :) I am more and more convinced, that my SS9+ needs to go. The only question is, when. Sounds like they're shipping in Sept/Oct! They were DC charging them in between ride sessions, but only for 15 min before the next ride, so it's hard to know how well the new battery shape will handle heat yet.

Oh, oh! I know a defect: It doesn't do 1000 km with 10 minutes of charge. That's what many say against electric motorcycles, ignoring that gas bikes don't do it either. BS aside, the last time I went on Stelvio (3 years ago now...) I got heavy rain after the first few km of the steep slope down. We had to endure the rain for the rest of the day for more the 2 passes towards Austria, it's not really the best weather for the scenery and the road becomes really dangerous, but it's an adventure. Luckily you got the nice weather too. How was the regen going down? Too strong at the stronger setting, or good?
@NewZeroland2 жыл бұрын
Hahaha someday they will.. and when that day comes, people will have to admit that they don't need that much range 😂 The regen is adjustable so we set it to what we're used to on the Ribelles. It felt great and added a lot of energy back in on the downhill.
