Oh man I love this groove! Little stairway tribute in the middle 🤟 Man I'm envious of your sound and production. My mixes don't sound this clean ✨

34 years ago I showed this G minor riff to a student who said that it was cool. 😜 I forget many of them, and these days I question the validity of his statement! lol. There’s also Scorpions Still Loving You placed in there too, just a hint. And yes the Stairway progression in G minor on the Harp. Gullfoss changes the mix quite a bit. It adds a bunch of top end presence. That used to be a problem because I have line noise and hiss from certain outboard chains. But I spent some time finding them and adding EQ Low Pass Filters so that Gullfoss can amplify the 10k-20k and I have little concern. I used to practice songs I’d learned but that stopped at some point. And I can be pretty hard on myself for not keeping up with my Randy Rhoads solos or my Tom Scholz solos. I should really practice more! Andrew Scheps. I recently played a PS4 game called Death Stranding and enjoyed some of the music, and discovered it was Andrew’s mixes. Of course I have watched him for years. He has amazing talent for bringing elements forward, all in the box mixes. So it’s nice and clean. On my headphones, Beyerdynamic DT770s, the bottom end is distorting. That’s because I have the kick drum routed around everything and no compression on it. So I try to use a limiter to keep it shaved off at -.2dB. That allows it to skip the mix buss compressor and not cause pumping. The bass has a side chain to it as well, so the bass is ducking on every kick drum hit. On my JBL reference monitors they don’t push up bottom end, so I almost can’t hear sub frequencies. On my boom box, it has a small sub speaker, this sounds amazing. I have heard your latest mix Chad, but only on my TV speakers. I loved the drums you added. You play music like a pro. And I also enjoyed your scales inside the solos you’re doing too. You make it look easy! 💪

@@jimshomestudio Thanks for the info on your routing process! I need to learn some of those tricks. Andrew is an extremely talented producer. I listened to one of his videos where he described how he approaches mixes. I remember he said at some point during his career he decided to use almost exclusively headphones while mixing. I guess it's worked out well for him! I use studio monitors because for some reason when I use headphones I can't get a balanced mix. I noticed the sound can vary from headphones to headphones. I have Seinheizer ones but they're not very expensive ones and some inexpensive AKGs. I haven't tried any side chaining yet but a friend of mine who does EDM music tried to explain it to me once. I think maybe you just have an ear for this sort of thing. I like to think I do well enough to get by though. 😁 Practicing established songs and solos is good exercise. It teaches us things we wouldn't normally play on our own, but when it comes down to it, I think being original is far better than being a perfect copy of someone. That role has a already been filled. Keep up the original stuff, I enjoy listening to it. And thank you for the compliment. I have played every instrument in a band at one point or another so it just feels natural to be able to "jam with myself." I just love playing music!

@@cbsaulren Headphones certainly are radically different! The whole reason I got an iPhone was to gain access to their AirPod headphones. They are very well balanced listen back devices. So before I get to making a video there are a few MP3 exports which get the AirPod / Boombox scrutiny. I appreciate what you say about original music! So much! A friend said nobody likes our music, and I said very few people MAKE music. They talk about it. But the musicians that DO make music can’t help themselves. It’s a natural outlet. For side chaining I needed to be trained. I had to go out and find the how-to videos and then experiment with it to see. Someone said my drums were very bad, and I am not a drummer so I was guilty of not listening to them in a mix capacity. So these days I listen for the cymbals, the kick, and the tone of the snare. Real drummers really care about each of these, and professionals don’t miss a beat. My snare needs help, I go the wrong direction trying to get Alex Van Halen’s snare, which is warm and round. But that classic sound is almost forgotten these days. People often prefer a snappy sound. I’m waiting for someone to say my snare sounds like trash… LOL! Can’t really argue there.

Very soon the missing part will arrive for my Phoenix Audio mic preamp, and restore that recording channel. A Shure SM57 on a Marshall 4x12 cabinet with Celestion Greenbacks for the Victoria Sovereign amplifier. It’s a recreation of the original Marshall Plexi, the Marshall JTM so that one is near and dear to me. Otherwise am EXTREMELY pleased with the new PC and its abilities. In the news, Intel i9 processors are crash prone, and has to do with over clocking from motherboards. So the manufacturers have updated the i9 operating conditions making the CPU much more stable. Once those updates were in place the PC is rock solid, so far so good. 👍😊

What guitar are you playing?😏😏😏

I made this for your enjoyment Zenn. Because 3 Marshalls featured only the ESP, this one shows the tones that can be found with a Strat and Tele, a 335 or Les Paul, a Rickenbacker 12 string chiming in, or a drop tuned 7 string. To do something like this live, impossible. The 7 string has a wide variety but not quite good enough Tele or Strat sounds. The Xaviere XV-900 is an inexpensive guitar, but I modded it severely and made it a studio tool I can’t live without. It gets used all the time. Hope you enjoyed the mix here, kitchen sink thrown in.
