Even considering myself to be a bit more of an experienced builder, I find these step to step tutorials really interesting. Way to go Gary! 🙂

Even back to basics videos can teach you new things. Well done.

'You don't want the glue squirting out all over your fingers and all over the model.' So true, yet it's also a rite of passage. Just like misting/smearing the canopy after you've made the rest of the kit.

Great big complimens on this video. I've watched another one on a kit like this and it lacked all the important detal you put in your talk, such as how to use clippers, to not ot use the glue from its tube but use some kind of applicator (yes, a tooth pick is a great choice!), dry fit (!!!) and the use of a sanding stick or file (look what your mum or sister usesd for her nails, nail files are very good modeling instruments). Another trick of course is to glue a narrow piece of sandpaper on a pospicle stick or something like that; you can make those as wide or narrow as you want or need and even have two grades of sanding paper onj one stick. Gary did a very fine job to show what an beginner's set with extra materials can get you. Threy are sold at a good price and give results as good as any expensive model. One extra tip I learned (way too late! ) from a graphic artist: these brusehs are to be use sideways. making as much contact between the hairs and the surface you're painting. Only use the tip and a top-bottom motion with these paintbrushes when you want to make a line or use just the tip for a very small detail. Oh, and always paint in teh saer dirrection; "don't cross the liines!" Happy modelling to all. Stay calm and build Airfix!

A cotton bud run along the edge of the masking tape gives you a better line

Love the way you presented that in a way beginners can follow the build, excellent. Cheers Gary.

Gary really enjoyed your video. My nieces are interested in modeling, think I’ll buy them a few of the Airfix starter kits and send them your video to watch. Thank you!

A very acceptable instructional video for the first-timer. The advice on glue use was very important. Suggesting the use of PVA glue, which a youngster should have in its school bag, for the canopy might be a help. Suggesting washing the sprues before starting might be a practice that a first-timer could be introduced to. The watering down of the paint in order to build up colour is a way to get a great finish where camouflage is involved. There are of course a lot of other simple techniques, like black paint wash, to make a mode look like it's a workhorse, not a show pony, but you could possible do another video, starting with an unpainted assembled example and then doing the very basic dirty work. Looking forward to when you pull out all the stops on the other starter kit.

Lovely job Gary. Agreed about the paints; they could skip the one only used on the exhausts and give you one extra colour for the pilot.

I have a question - maybe I missed that step, but I don't recall seeing an instrument panel in this plane?
@garys_stuff7 ай бұрын
There isn't an instrument panel provided.

I would never use these paintings there with the box

Yes, but the point is that a new person to the hobby who has never made anything before is given just these paints, so let's see what we can do with them.
