It's not the hook or bait ....it's the area you are fishing. They like Sun up there...14 to 20 feet . In good current, they will move shallower

Hulk had 24" pythons for biceps, mine are more like rat snakes.

Is the bait moving or are you dead sticking it? The more erratic the movements trigger strikes.

I never move the bait for a drop shot and never allow the bait to lift off the bottom more then an inch. Let the bottom current make the flatworm imitate the goby.

@@rickvann3489When they are inactive, your plan works but he has to find a school of 4’s plus first. In the morning when the fish are more active I do not waste time dead sticking it, probing with a big plug fast and erratic will fill the limit.

Drop shot a flat worm 8 inches above the weight with a number 1 or number 2 red hook Open hook tube bait is the other killer Hair jig and of course Ned rig This is not giving info this is the basics for smallmouth 1/2oz weight
